Reincarnated as the Elder's son: My Infinite Shop Points System-Chapter 11: The young Lord is different.
Chapter 11 - The young Lord is different.
The next morning, as the villagers began to rise from their slumber and greet a new day, they were met with a sight they never expected.
At the very front of the village were stacked piles of wood and steel wire.
Yet, that wasn't what fully grabbed the attention of the people.
No, it was the fact that their leader, Jared Hunter, was also present and awake.
Leaving aside the fact that it was more than weird for Jared, of all people, to wake up so early, it didn't seem like he had gotten any sleep either.
Seated on a log, he held in one hand a strange bottle that seemed to be filled with green tea, while in the other, a sandwich wrapped in see-through nylon.
Judging from how dirty and rough he looked, the villagers came to the conclusion that he had either spent the entire night playing or had been busy with something.
Not that any of them wanted to risk asking such a question. All they could do was stand at a distance, watching as the young lord spoke to himself.
It wasn't until Lucy stepped out from her room that the rest finally loosened their concentration.
"Lady Lucy, you're awake," one of the women immediately spoke, moving closer to Lucy.
Still dressed in her pajamas, Lucy was initially shocked as to why the villagers all looked so worried.
"Did something happen with the young master recently?" another woman asked, cupping her hands in a worried way.
"Happen? What do you mean?" Lucy asked back.
Another replied, "The young lord is up EARLY. He never does that. That's not all—I think... I think the young lord has gone insane as well. He has been speaking to himself for a while now."
At first, Lucy was obliged to take the villagers' words into consideration.
Then again, she was already quite used to seeing him talk to himself often, especially since he came back from his solo mission.
For the most part, the last time he did that, she had awakened from a four-star to a five-star.
Hence, she never bothered asking him about it. It could very well be another way he communicates with the goddess.
"I don't think standing around watching him will help the situation. You can get back to work; I'll handle the rest,"
Lucy said to the villagers before walking away.
Meanwhile, Jared was still seated on the log.
During the night, while everyone was sleeping, he had managed to measure the entire land in order to calculate the amount of materials he would need.
[Ironwood post x30 - 900sp.]
[Steel cables x10 - 200sp.]
[Arcane conduit crystal - 400sp.]
[Sp remaining: 3000sp.]
"I still have to budget in case we don't have the equipment needed to do this. I hate spending when nothing comes in at the same rate or higher."
Jared sighed.
'Once William is back from checking the tools we currently own, I'll have him gather the men in the village. The sooner we get to work, the better.'
While he was measuring the land at midnight, William, who had been sleeping in the bush, woke up. Though surprised, he still managed to help Jared a bit.
Suddenly—
"Good morning, Lord Jared. What are you up to?"
That was Lucy, dressed in her usual outfit, the blade she had gotten from Jared strapped to the side of her waist.
At first, Jared wanted to ignore her—not for any particular reason, but because he was already used to getting a cute reaction out of her.
If he could get a good look at her when she did that, there was a chance the tiredness in his eyes would fade away.
Instead, he sighed, "Why exactly are you up so early?"
"What do you mean? I usually wake up by this time for patrol. You don't know this because you never wake up this early yourself," Lucy responded.
"Is that so?"
"Yes, Lord Jared. It's a well-known fact in the village already."
"And this fact is?" Jared kept his eyes on the system's template the whole time.
"That you sleep a lot."

"Come here for a sec," Jared said, gesturing for her to come closer.
Not being the first time Jared had said that to her, Lucy immediately knew what to do.
She moved closer and bent down, her hands gently placed on Jared's lap as she looked up at him.
"Like this... Lord Jared?"
Without a word, Jared used both his hands to pinch her cheeks.
They were fluffy, no doubt, but Jared's experience at that moment was far different from Lucy's.
It felt like her cheeks were going to fall off if Jared kept moving her back and forth the way he was.
"Are you implying I'm lazy in some way? Is that what you're saying?" Jared said with a straight face.
"Nouuu nouuu~ " Lucy could barely speak, tears already hanging at the sides of her eyes.
Finally, Jared decided to let her go and turned his attention back to the system.
While rubbing her cheeks, Lucy asked—
"What were you doing up all night, though? And these logs, was it also a gift from the goddess? I know you can't even use an axe properly, not to mention cutting down trees this perfectly."
Giving her a hard, stern gaze, Lucy immediately stood up and used her hands to protect her cheeks, thinking Jared was about to pinch her again.
"Yes, it was a gift from the goddess. I wanted to build a fence around the village, and she suggested she help me out," Jared replied.
Lucy was quiet for a while.
"The goddess must have taken a liking to you if she is willing to do even the tiniest of tasks for you. I heard she rarely ever even answers her own people."
"Who knows why the gods do anything? I am but a simple person who just happens to be among the lucky ones. Nothing hard to think about there."
Just then, William showed up, his lower face covered with a handkerchief while carrying a sack of tools that he gently placed in front of Jared.
"My lord, this was all I was able to find. Will this work?" William asked.
Jared took a second to look at the sack. Every single bit of life that had been hinted at on his face disappeared the moment he saw what was inside.
