Chapter 13 - Work work work!

[The villagers are exhausted.]

Jared watched with a disappointed gaze, the blueprint he had worked on safely held in front of him for him to read.

In order to make the work faster, Jared distributed all 30 men to different parts of the village. Giving each of them iron wood and steel wires, he expected them to work on their given areas to the best of their abilities.

Or so he thought.

Not even five minutes had passed since they all started, and most of them had already collapsed to the ground.

Hell, the only people who seemed to be working hard were Ava, William, and two other men who barely even looked to be anywhere near strong.

'What the hell is wrong with these people? Are they somehow lazy from not doing anything for so long?' he thought to himself.

During the rule of his father, it was true most of the men barely did anything other than trying to protect the women. Even in that, they still failed.

Scratching the back of his head, Jared couldn't help but sigh, trying to think of how he could get them to have more morale.

It was then an idea popped up in his head.

And with that idea came a wicked smile.

A few moments later, Jared walked up to one of the villagers who was barely able to stand on his feet.

"Poor thing, are you alright? You look tired," he whispered, bending in front of the young man.

"Lord Jared..." the man called out, looking at him.

"You are tired, right? I can understand. Having to use a large hammer to slam such hard wood into the ground can be exhausting."

The man almost shed tears. "Lord Jared understands~"

"Of course I do. I can't bear to see people of my village in such pitiful states. That's why I asked the goddess for a way, and she gave me one. Here, take this, it should help."

Jared stretched his palm forward. On it, a small white pill.

Looking at the pill, the villager uttered, "What is this, Lord Jared?"

"It's a magic pill, to solve our little problem." Jared smiled, moving it even closer to the young man's face.

"I... no problem then." The man took the pill and swallowed it.

Suddenly, his eyes widened, and he jerked up from the ground, his entire body filled with energy.

Jared looked up at him while still bent, as if waiting to see what was going to happen next.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"

The man yelled, his arms stretched to both sides while looking at the sky.

"Work!!! So much energy to work!!! Ahhhhhhh!" he screamed, grabbing the hammer from the ground and sprinting forward like a mad dog.

[The villager is motivated.]

[You have gained +23sp.]

Instantly, a grin showed on Jared's face.

The magic pill was an energy pill he bought from the system for 8sp.

[Power pill (8sp.): This pill gives the users immense energy for a limited amount of time.

Side effects: Hyperactive, unstable emotion, exhaustion.]

Though Jared searched for a while, he never really found any drug that would match this particular product, hence why he bought it.

But if he were to tell the villagers the side effects, no doubt they would refuse to use it.

"Hey, take this magic pill, it will help."

"You're tired, here, take this."

"Awwn, swallow this pill."

Jared went ahead to give almost everyone the drug, and soon after, the entire place had turned into a working paradise.

Every single one of them was working three times as hard as he expected, even outclassing William and Lucy.

In less than a day, the fence had been built all around the village, with the steel wires connecting to each wood.

Standing about four to five meters high, the fence was able to block almost everything.

"Yosh, this should do."

Jared stood in front of the fence, gently pressing his hand on it to make sure it was hard enough.

It wouldn't be much of a fence if a single thud was enough to knock it off balance.

'Now, all that is left is to connect the crystal, and we'll have ourselves an electric fence.'

The crystal in question was in his hand. Having no energy running into it, it simply looked like transparent glass in the shape of an octagon.

For it to work, Jared would need to attach the crystal to one of the wooden stances and power it with the kind of magic he needed.

If someone with water mana were to touch the crystal, the crystal would flow with water. But if someone with electric mana touched it, it would spread all around the fence thanks to the steel wires.

Luckily, he had just the right person for that.

"Lucy!!!"

He screamed, his mouth opening wide.

"Sigh! I'm right here." Lucy was standing behind him.

Turning around, he smiled. "Ah, there's my favorite girl. What have you been up to?"

"That..."

She pointed to the side.

Jared turned his gaze in that direction.

He could see some of the villagers twerking on the ground, some trying to play stone throws with one another. There was even a particular young man claiming high ground, thinking he could fly.

Having a robotic expression, Jared uttered, "Such weird creatures. Who knows what goes through their heads?"

Lucy, of course, was not buying it.

"Lord Jared, did you do something to them?" she asked, with certainty that he did.

Jared sighed. "Do I really look like the sort of person that would give my people hyperactive drugs just to make them work harder and finish the job I gave them faster?"

That was all she needed to hear.

"I'll knock them unconscious, so the drug can clear out of their system faster." Lucy was about to walk away.

"Wait!"

She paused, turning around to look at Jared.

"If you don't mind, can you add your mana to this? Don't be selfish with it, you can add as much as you want." Jared stretched the crystal forward with a straight face.

Lucy could have sworn she saw the word 'shamelessness' written on his face.

"As you wish... my lord."
