"—Sonic Sword!" 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

Lamda heard Brave unleashing his skill, though it had him baffled. Why was Brave choosing to confront with a Sonic category skill?!

Lamda's «Sacred Sword - Ultimate Thrust» skill materialises a towering sword, its entire length spanning 10m, and width 4m. The might it packed wasn't something that one could tackle with any random skill, hence he had expected Brave to intercept him with a 4th order skill or equivalent.

And yet, here they were, and Brave used a movement type skill. Was he trying to dodge the incoming strike? But this would only create a hole in his defense. Perhaps, it was his chance to take advantage of opponent's mistake. Lamda inwardly deduced, and strained his voice.

"He's trying to escape! Do not—"

However Lamda cut short his words midway.

"You are so wide open!"

Zephyr narrowly dodged the giant sword, and instead lunged in Lamda's direction.

Lamda had naively thought Brave wouldn't attempt to cross the distance when they're still a good distance apart, but Brave went against his prediction and utilised the hybrid skill between movement and offense.

Brave brushed past the giant sword's blade and dashed toward Lamda. Since it was impossible to move when the body was acting on pre-determined movements of skill, Lamda was struck as his skill had yet to be called off.

'Was he sane? Who in the world would try to take a lethal attack head on and go after an opponent?' Lamda was filled with the urge to pry open Brave's mind and see what kind of absurdities were going on there.

Had it been him, he would have either channeled his strength into defense, or had chosen an all-out offense, or in the last case scenario, he would have dodged and opened the distance between them. After all, failing in dodging the attack would mean clashing directly into an ultimate skill, and that was bound to put him in the cold, out of match. Unless... Brave knew every detail about this attack?

"Haa!"

Zephyr's skill effortlessly slammed against Lamda, causing him to stagger, unable to defend. But on the bright side, it broke him from the attack lag state. He propped up his shield as soon as he affirmed he could move, and took on a defensive stance, invoking a defensive skill that improved both his physical resistance and spell resistance.

"—«Guard Action»!"

He just needed to hold back Brave, so that—

"Lamda! —«Shock Buster»!"

His comrades could provide cover fire. He believed in his team, and not betraying him, one of his teammates promptly turned the muzzle toward Brave and took a shot.

But, all he saw was a smile on Brave's face.

"It's a pity, but sniping doesn't work on Brave."

Zephyr's passive skill 'intuition' had already rung the alarm bell inside his mind, and within the same moment, his 'super reflex' invoked on its own and pushed him to dodge, avoiding the attack out of his visual range.

Even in the game, Brave was immune to attack such as sniping. As soon as there was hint of such attack, he would automatically dodge it, while the party members cover for him as well as find out the sniper for him, foiling the sneak attack. This was common sense.

Though, he had just escaped from an earlier attack when another of Lamda’s party member, a girl, chased after him.

"Leave the backup to me! —«Sword Dance»!"

"Heh, so we have not only a «Beam Shooter», but also «Miss Sword Girl»... and both are high-ranking jobs to boot. —«Guard Rush»!"

"!!"

Zephyr promptly guessed the jobs of his opponent, and it brought a hesitation in the movement of twin sword user girl. He used that moment of respite to prop up his shield and invoked defense—to be precise, a hybrid of attack and defense skill.

The flurry of sword strikes rained down on Zephyr's shield, however the damage didn't pass through. Instead, his defensive skill invoker counter burst, and damaged the HP of the said girl.

Though, this was enough gap for Lamda as he regained his footing and stance.

"«Shield Bash»!"

He should be holding Brave back. Lamda inspired himself and charged at Zephyr with a basic shield charge attack. Since Zephyr was locked against the twin sword girl, even escaping wouldn't put him out of the Lamda's charged attack.

But much to his dismay, Lamda's expectation were overturned again.

"Oops. One piece of advice; don't use that skill against fellow players. —«Quick Strike»!"

"Kyaa!!"

"W-What?!"

Brave easily dodge past Lamda's charged attack, dumbfounding him.

He felt as if Brave had already secured his escape when he had barely invoked the name of his skill. He was read like a open book. He had to recognise his opponent superiority when he heard Brave's suggestion.

Losing its target, Lamda cut through the air and rammed forward much to his dismay, opening the distance between two. Meanwhile, Zephyr performed a slash attack on the twin sword girl.

Shield bash was a dicey skill that would leave a huge hole in one's defense if the user missed the target. Since he had faced monsters for the majority, Lamda had yet to realise the difference. But if he knew, then he must have been lured by the chances to stun Brave by the knock-back effect.

Either way, seeing as his plan had failed, Lamda panicked.

"—«Big Canon»!"

"Uh-oh, now that's something I need to dodge. —«Element Shift - Fire»!"

The Beam Shooter jumped into action this time, and bombarded Zephyr with a huge laser attack, supporting the twin sword girl.

Zephyr escaped by promptly leaping backward, and on the midway, he changed the attribute of his word to fire. Twin Sword Girl similarly leaped back, opening distance between them.

The few moments of interruption allowed Lamda to jump back into the scene as he stood before his comrade, defending her.

"Lamda! You just take care of Brave!"

"Yeah, we will manage the rest! He's our biggest roadblock for now!"

"!! Got it!"

It was only when he heard his reliable comrade's words that he realised he had started to lose his calm. He had been caught up in too many thoughts; like how he must ensure their victory, but instead he played in his opponent’s hand, or how the alliance was faring.

The myriads of worries ultimately culminated in him making many blunders. However they're now locked against Brave, and that was what he had to focus on—to defeat Brave.

He shook his head, affirming that defeating Brave was impossible if his thoughts kept straying, and narrowed his eyes on Brave.

"Uh-huh, you could've remained more in panic."

Lamda heard Brave exhaling a disappointed sigh, passing him some dread. To him, it was as if he was facing an opponent of Prince Yuri caliber. As soon as he comprehended that fact, he renewed his mindset. He no longer looked at Brave like they were peers; but that he was facing an overwhelming opponent, like Prince Yuri himself.

He might have made a blunder, but not now!

And perhaps the determination of Lamda was clear to Brave as he, too, prop his shield, and held the sword with a lower angle.

"There's no holding back now!! Prepare yourself!"

"—«Blue Trial Canon»!"

Brave heard the thundering echo of three shots being fired from Lamda's behind. And just as he had figured, Brave evaded the incoming shot as he intoned the skill name. Lamda had so much as realised that things like snipping wouldn't work on Brave. He also noticed how Brave kept his skill usage to as little as possible, facing his opponent with normal attack permissible.

"Haaa!"

Lamda took his step forward and, while skill would have made it a task magnitudally easy, he ran using his physical strength. Brave could be seen bolting in his direction boldly, entirely convinced that the shots fired would never cross his path. He was right. Zephyr barely considered skills a threat.

Since they're both fellow melee fighters, surely his tank class should triumph over. He slashed with his sword, determined to bring his opponent down with merely his physical might.

"Now that's a spirit!"

"Grh!"

Brave followed, never invoking any single skill among their confrontation. Or perhaps he had? A swirl of flame had occupied the sword's frame, and that could only be a sign of strong skill.

A slash followed from downward, which he deflected by bringing up his shield. *He could see it.* He could follow up with Brave's attack! Lamda inwardly assured himself to brush aside his impatience, and swung his sword.

Brave evaded the sword with a backstep, or sometimes using his shield to offset, making his strikes ineffective much as he did to Brave's attack earlier. However he didn't falter this time. He might fail in overwhelming his opponent, he had the support of his comrades.

"Haa—«Stream Sword»!"

Awaiting an opening, the twin sword girl unleashed her skill, spinning like a hurricane, targeting Brave. And since Brave was locked against Lamda, she had made sure to select the timing when Brave couldn’t dodge. Though, if he did try to tank it, it would leave Lamda with a perfect chance to deliver his blow.

"Hehe, now that's called a hype moment! —«Lightning Slash»!"

Brave's answer was... an interception strike. He pushed his shield forward, shielding away from Lamda, and struck with his sword clad in a crackling blend of flame and thunder.

—Now or never!

Lamda prop himself, and carried the next skill strike with utmost focus.

And Zephyr, despite in acknowledgment of Lamda's follow up attack, still choose to intercept twin sword girl, stucking in a mutual strike.

The subsequent sequence however dumbfounded Lamda. Brave's skill chips away a huge chunk of twin sword girl's HP, putting it into critical zone. But his interception of the twin sword girl left him with an opening—and that's where oddity struck him. The effect from Brave's sword had yet to subside.

The only plausible scenario was Brave had expected this pincer, and—which should've been nigh difficult—had promptly switched to the next skill as soon as he struck down the twin sword girl. It left him baffled, but, it's alright, he's still a step ahead in his offense, Lamda assured himself, while the shock seized his mind.

He stepped forward without a shred of uncertainty, and unleashed his full power strike.

"Unique skill - «Excalibur»!!"

"Unique Skill - «Brave Slash»!"

Following behind, Brave also intercepted with his own skill.

Two swords clashed against each other, causing the shockwave and flashes of radiance to diffuse in their surroundings.
