Reincarnated in the game world ~ A gamer's beginning to [Dungeon job hunting recommendation]-Chapter 629Vol. 11 - - Dungeon Charge! A Compliment from Tabase-senpai?!
Aegis steered the carriage, while I guided the way to the bottom floor.
"So... this is the «Dungeon Carriage» that had everyone talk about it."
Tabase-senpai murmured, her gaze watching the flowing scenery from the carriage's window.
To her, it must have evoked emotions, all jumbled like unresolved cat's cradle. It all had begun due to it, after all. I had only heard about it, but the starting of everything traced back to the duel «Temple Saber» challenged «Beast King Galtiger» with, and the stack they'd demanded was recipe for «Mechanical Carriage», or the «Dungeon Carriage» that they'd begun to call it now.
Of course, the carriage could operate everywhere, and not just in a dungeon. It was also pretty convenient to use for a counterattack in guild challenges. With our current guild rank, we didn't have that many opponents, so I never needed to put it into strategy.
Anyway, the transportation and mobility of Carriage was quite impressive, eliciting «Temple Saber» attention. But, with quality comes price—frankly, it's an eye-popping amount—and they were not much eager for that option, hence they pivoted to the guild challenge. The words on the street are that it was Garze, the guildmaster of «Beast King Galtiger», who steered them to think over it, though «Temple Saber» had yet to catch on to it. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
At an inquiry from Aegis, she narrated the victory streak of «Temple Saber» had almost been due to Tabase-senpai, but instead, they'd only been getting pompous. «Beast King Galtiger» action was akin to throwing cold water on their burning trail. Frankly, it was an impressive move from them. Breaking the trailblazing—It was a scene replicating what I often saw in the game.
"May I ask a question, Zephyr-san?"
"Go ahead."
From my right, Aegis initiated the conversation as she drove the carriage. I had a hunch where she would be leading to, and nodded.
"Is there any way you can accept Tabase-senpai's enrollment? She has all the skills of a competent person, and even more importantly, she has a top-ranking job. She would certainly play a role in «Eden». I can assure you of that."
Sure enough, it was about Tabase-senpai.
"Well, it's why we're challenging this dungeon. But, you probably need not to worry much. We're considering her positively."
She appeared quite fraught with Senpai's situation, so I assured her. And I mean, my decision was all but made, only requiring one last touch. She overqualifies in terms of achievement, however I hadn't seen her performance, hence this was the one thing I needed to check.
I do have my consideration for Senpai's situation, hence why I was also positive about it. My decision was set, this was why I had contacted Yumiki-senpai. I paraphrased the same to Aegis. Hopefully, this would ease her concern.
"If you say so, then I can be assured."
"Are you familiar with Tabase-senpai?"
"Well, yeah. I had been much helped by her. Since she was the sole healer in «Temple Saber», the healers of «White Saber» often get to have exchanges with her."
"How do they even manage their dungeon runs then?"
I couldn't help but ask. I realised it was bad timing to ask, when she was sharing her memories, but that doubt just pushed me to question it. It was unthinkable to me. It was beyond me to imagine having only one healer in the A-rank guild.
"We borrowed healers from other guilds. Oh, and also used the help of the «Helper» system."
"Oh, that's quite a logical take, yeah."
It was quite different from us, who always decide on our party at the guild before leaving. And while we did have three helpers, they're a thorough support division. Well, they certainly were making full use guild challenges. It was the No.1 spot to interact with other guilds.
"Frankly, it was her kind effort that someone like me could assertively make a contribution in dungeon exploration. I doubt I could have hit the level cap otherwise."
Hmm, I could picture that. It wasn't that difficult to clear weak dungeons with a top-tier healer. Back at «White Saber», she used to have a standard «Knight» job, so she must have received a lot of help from Senpai.
The way she described her, Tabase-senpai appeared like a saintess... Wait, that's Lana, right. Anyway, with that sister garb draped over, Senpai appeared like a role model big-hearted person. Well, or she was just that chaste? Hmm, frankly, I had wanted both Lana and Tabase-senpai to use «White Throne».
The journey flew like a fleeting dream amidst our chit-chat, and soon, we had arrived at the bottom floor. We disembarked at the 39th floor, preparing to hit the dungeon's final depth on foot.
"Alright, we should be able to return by dinner."
"Amazing. It's no wonder why everyone's so eager to get their hand on «Dungeon Carriage»."
I had muttered to myself when Tabase-sensei remarked, nearing closer to me.
"You truly are something, Zephyr-san. You pretty much have everything that «Temple Saber» would do anything to have. Even your guild members are filled with remarkable individuals. And most of all, it's clear they look up to you."
"I, I don't think it's that much of a big deal."
"Hehe, it's precisely a big deal because you believe it's not. You truly are made of a different mould in contrast to him, I knew it."
"Hey, all these praises wouldn't do anything good, just so you know. Anyway, how are you feeling, Tabase-senpai? Do you want juice?"
"Fufu. Yes, please."
For some reason, Tabasa-senpai appeared in quite a jolly mood. I sure hope she doesn't think that would earn her any brownie points. Though juice was fine, since it's just a treat.
"......So, what's the exact plan, Zephyr?"
"Ah, Sierra—... what's with that look."
"...Nothing."
I couldn't help but answer the question with another question. For reasons incomprehensible to me, Sierra’s gaze was laced with a sharpness.
"I see. Well, I can't say it's anything exciting, if that's what you're hoping for. We're just going to challenge boss as usual. I want to see Senpai's performance before hitting the boss room so I decided to stop here. Overall, you will be the tank, Sierra, Reglam and Aegis would play attacker, and I will command the team by Tabase-senpai's side."
"Understood."
"Alright."
"Great, then let's move on."
After explaining the barebone plan, we set out. The monsters, «Wicked Flower of Madness», made their appearance in the lower floors, and since the objective was to evaluate Senpai's performance only, we didn't need to go through a needless battle and selected the 39th floor as testing ground.
Sierra and I took the lead, and had just begun when Tabase-senpai sprinted in my neighbourhood, posing a question.
"Are you not using any map, Zephyr-san? If you like, I can draw one. I am quite confident in my mapping skill."
"Map?"
The word Map honestly hadn't rung any bell to me, so I reflexively inquired back. "Huh?" Tabase-senpai exhaled in perplexity when she noticed my confusion, and trained her gaze on Aegis.
Aegis noticed the crux of the problem, and filled her in the details.
"Senpai. We don't use maps when Zephyr-san is with us. We only chart the path he illuminates for us."
"............What?"
Tabase-senpai blinked in mute confusion. Sierra nodded as if she understood Senpai's mind.
"Well, it's just how things play out here."
"It would be in your favour to get used to these antics, Tabase-senpai. Zephyr's common sense is out of this world."
"Hey, now, Reglam."
As Tabase-senpai's confusion only deepened, Reglam blabbered nonsense. Seriously, I was just doing what any other guy would do in «Dungeon Activity». When I had every single aspect memorised, a map was an unnecessary addition in plan.
I mean, I knew what a map was. It's just, since we never used it, so it didn't immediately occur to me the meaning of her words. Anyone would forget even a simple fact if they never recalled it.
"Rest assured, Senpai. The map's in my head. You will never fall into a trap with me."
"...... I see. You must be quite a studyholic huh, Zephyr-san."
"Heh, kind of."
She wasn't wrong. If it's about «Dungeon Activity», I had left no stone unturned in learning about it, so it definitely was my forte. At least, she understood that point, worsening my mood.
