Chapter 105: Chapter 105

Closing my eyes and covering them with my hand wasn’t enough to prevent its bright glow from burning my pupils for a moment, and only when the sensation passes and I can move my hands out of the way do I open my eyes back up, slowly at first but widening soon after when I manage to see my surroundings for the first time.

And that is... where the hell am I?

I look behind me but there are no doors around, and it is as if I had been simply put in the middle of this strange place, an intricate glass dome with the central area I am at and four breaching paths, round and joining at the center to form a peaking end, protecting the stranger plants growing inside and giving a blue shade of light to illuminate inwards.

But the thing that catches my eye more is what lies beyond the glass dome above, and that is...

"Those are... fish?" 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

It looks like the water’s depths, with the mere outline of creatures swimming about, from big to small, and the distant light of the sun being filtered by the pool of water until only a few flowing rays managed to get this far down.

Amongst that eerie silence and slow moving waves of sunrays is a smooth sound, a flicker at first that prompts me to walk forward towards it, a strange maze it is, four glass chambers repeating themselves and pointing to all four directions, lowering towards the doorway only to expanding the main chamber full of plants, repeating the cycle until the eye could see.

For a moment I am unsure of what to do, looking at the strange plants that managed to grow under the pressure of the sea and with so little light, with blue to yellow leaves, resembling a coral more than a jungle, and yet posing grandly in the air as is.

But then that sound, it pulled me in, away and beyond, deeper into the glass maze, the only thing changing, breaking the cycle, making me move my legs forward as if pushing my muscles against the water current, a snitch cutting sound, I realize, constant yet changing, guiding me towards a similar looking part of this maze, only there is someone in there, hunched over some plants, a scissor opening and closing, making that sound, as the person cleaned the plant of any dead leaves.

"Ah, you found me here, good good..."The person says, his face turned away and his body barely visible as his back is turned towards me, keeping his hand as steady as the constant cutting.

I dare not ask who he is, I dare not move an inch because from this distance already I can feel his oppressive aura filling the place and triggering my flight instincts to the maximum, my beast knowing enough of the creature in front of me as to not question his reasons and motives.

"I was looking for someone like you, yes, a cold hearted creature like myself, such hard one to find in this parts, yes..." I catch a glimpse of his eyes as he looks over his shoulder through the darkness created by the leaves and water, only bringing forth the brightness of the sapphire pupils of the predator in front of me even more, making it faintly glow.

"Yes, you will do, you will do just fine... but don’t worry, no, I just have a gift for you, that’s all, I just ask you to put it to good use and to not let it die with you, just like I have done so..." I hear him move and feel him stand more than see him, brushing the dust from his knees. "Sigh, but I’m tired you see, so tired..."

The light from his eyes glows up, as if taking the place in one last time before saying: "It is a nice tomb that I made for myself, isn’t it?" Before I can say anything to that, however, his gaze goes back to me, and as his shoulder brushed past the blue pale leaves surrounding him they grow luminousness spots along their leaves, resembling a luminous fish and, for a second, waving the small light caused by the touch, they illuminate the creatures face like lightening in a thunderstorm, and what I see seals my mouth right up for how... indescribable it is, and how inhumane such distorted features are.

Then I gasp awake, and in front of me stretches the darkening sky with its bright blue, orange, purple and dark blue colors mixing together in preparation for the night to come.

"I... What?" I blink rapidly as I sit up, only to find myself on the same spot on top of the gigantic creature’s skull, over the city receiving the chilling air of the upcoming night.

But there are two odd things that I quickly notice that proves to me that it had not been a crazy dream as one may think at first, and one is that the cold bones that lay before me were now bare of such aura, not bringing forth the welcomed icy touch from before, resembling mere stones now.

And the other is the bracelet hanging from my left wrist that wasn’t there before.

Is it mostly silver made of intricate patterns of metal twisting and turning, but the most important part is not only the sapphire stone shining against the fading light, but the intricate runes carved small along the metal, increasing the detail value of such piece.

Puzzled I look it over, but unsure of what to make of this I end up flying back to the inn before night caught up and I would be long gone enough to start worrying Ethan if he had already come back, gone all day by mistake like this.

From all the troubles thus far I had to add new ones to the list, had I not? I give one last look at the chain around my wrist, pull and twist, but nothing cast away the chilly touch of the metal against my wrist, and I cannot help but feel that I had just acquired something complicated from an even more complicated creature.
