Chapter 107: Chapter 107

"... Ice fog?" I read the single line written on the paper out loud, recognizing it as a spell by the name even before the remaining words scribble themselves to life on the remaining page, so fast yet so clear that in a blink of an eye it may have made me think it had appeared out of the blue.

"Great to distract and deceive enemies, it can also conceal the caster’s aura... cannot be used on deserts or very dry lands... to use it one needs to master the art of the Ring of Ice and make the opposite effect of condensing the ice... spreading with wind magic..." I start reading, walking back and forth while analyzing the pros and cons of such magic, on how it tells in detail that it may be a great concealing weapon, but friends and foes will be unable to see equally inside the spell, but the caster would not be affected.

"Is worth the shot, better know it and not used it than need it and not know it." I say to myself. "But Ring of Ice... I’ve mastered Wind Shield, it should not be hard I supposed, especially when I have to make the fog, will be a matter of mixing the two together right?"

I did not expect an answer when the book, shivering between my fingers, suddenly bursts to life as the pages changed with speed, almost as if a hurricane is around messing with it, yet such odd inexistent wind is cut short in a single page in between the many, empty still, but as I look it over there is no doubt words start to form, until Ring of Ice scribbles to life, and Wind Shield appears as required with a silver mark on the top binding both together in a way, almost a stamp of sorts, the skill writing bellow looking like melted silver as well as the figure of a...

"An owl? This cannot be a coincidence..." And yet as much as I’m interested in the contents and infinite possibilities this place and this book may contain I’m still too shocked and eerie out by all of this to calmly sit about and read a book.

"The question is... how do I get out of here?"

I look down at the bracelet and figure it may be the same way that I got here in the first place, by activating this strange device with a cold magic spell, and indeed with it a tingle of magic emanates as the stone shines bright once more, leading back to the inn as expected.

Well, expected by me, at least, but not expected by the clueless Ethan who falls back down when I suddenly appear in front of him, barely containing a scream into a gasp as he drops whatever he had on his hands, including himself on the floor.

"By the love of- what the hell Seraph? Do you know teleport now?" He stutters, blinking rapidly and quickly gathering his stuff and putting them aside, trying to clean his mess fast and pretend he did not fall just like that.

I raise my eyebrow at him, looking down and sighing: "What kind of demon boyfriend is that that gets scared this easily uhm?"

I open my fan with a bang, the sudden movement turning into a smooth one as I start to fan myself with it, one hand on my back as I turn to look outside, all to hide my blushing ears.

"Well if you had the ability you could have told me before, it would have been quite useful and- wait, what? What did you just call me?"

I close the fan with another loud bang, ignoring his words and getting my composure back and yet not turning once I start saying:

"Where have you been? Don’t you think we have matters to attend to?"

"I-Well, I was researching and- no, you are not getting out of this like this and-" I open my wings at that, a mischievous look in my eyes that did not reach far enough down my lips, but were enough to breach my cold exterior a bit when I say:

"Oh I will, especially when I’m about to go out to deal with our little stalkers too while at that, after all someone has to make themselves useful around here."

His incredulous face is what I see before flapping my wings and setting off, but not after hearing him swear inside I can hear his hurried pace as he grabs his outer robe and moves out of the inner room.

And I may have joked around about leaving him behind but I wait for him to step outside before flying away, because not too far from where we were staying there has been a stalker watching us from day one in the city and we were about to confront them.

And since they did not follow neither of us and approached, plus the lack of information on Ethan’s part makes me tipsy to act up, and they are just the right target for questioning.

Also is troubling to be watched from afar by stranger, I already have a troublemaker staring without ceremony close by to wear my patience down as is, no need to add troubling strange stalker to the mix.

Working in unison and knowing that my white wings would do me no good in hiding my presence away against the darkening sky Ethan and I are quick to give each other’s positioning without even speaking as I glue my eyes at the pair that now noticed me and do not try to futility hide themselves, especially when a bird of prey has his eyes set on them, and as they move towards me and watch my approach attentively, Ethan sneaks around and circles them from behind.

That way, the moment my wings flap to keep me afloat as I set my feet on the ground, we have them surrounded and with no routes to escape, perfectly set to confront them.

And confront them we do:

"Who are you two? Why have you been watching us?"

Confronting Ethan about his condition would have to wait, for I don’t like walking on tall grass while snakes circle around, so I’m about to make a nice meal out of this prey.

I shrink my eyes at that.
