Chapter 141: Chapter 141

We do not have time to process what happened after finally being able to put an end to this consuming foreign power before the consequences start falling down on our heads, the circle of buildings now appearing in front of our eyes with the lack of fog to cover it all up, overlooking the hole we are at as a spiky hole, all crocked and twisted towards us while around the ball of fog created by the once source of the pull.

And now all are in the right position to fall down right on top of us without the ball of fog, like a tree on a storm, being pulled out of their bases and falling completely with the force of gravity when back at its full force against them and their impossible to sustain position.

"We have to get out of here now!" Natasha screams, the barrier gone, unnecessary now, as she comes running at us, the remaining fog harmless now and dissipating fast.

At that point the burning pain makes my entire leg feel numb and I have to put effort into standing up with my remaining 3 limbs, trying to keep the one wounded still and steady but hurting it with the movement nonetheless.

"Ethan, here!" I have no time to explain but even if my legs are hurt I still have meanings to move, and opening my wings wide I motion for both to hop on my back.

At least the acid had burned the skin and meat in place so I do have a little more time on my hands as it will take longer for me to bleed out with the wound closed from the outside, although the internal hemorrhage still threatens my life at least I will not bleed out on the spot... yet.

Everything happens fast next, the two hopping on my back, my intense flapping of the wings to bust us from the ground and fly up towards the open sky, trying to avoid the crumbling cave that is being weighed down by the falling buildings on top, every rumble raising a cloud of smoke that makes it all the harder to avoid being crushed or pushed back down by the falling debris all around.

I can barely tell when some, the smaller ones, manage to hit me, the sharp edges cutting lines all over my wings and back, but all these small pains are nothing compared to the one of my leg, the pain so extreme that numbs all the rest, even over the jolt of adrenaline.

Vision blurring, wounds piling up, internal bleeding spreading, I’m still unsure how I manage to take us out of there, the chaos, the smoke, the compromised vision, the twist and turns and dodges midair around falling buildings and rocks, and then the force to keep us afloat, flying somewhere, just out, away, and next thing I know Ethan is back to normal nursing my wound as I, back to human, lay on a makeshift bed by a fire while grunting in pain, with a high fever and infection spreading from the uncleaned cut.

I do not need to look again to know just how bad the wound is, to have reached the bone in such a short period it must have burned through skin and nerves, the highest degree and with the most collateral damage, probably leaving a dent on my legs with the lost meat and scars along the bruised skin, with no feelings returning due to the lack of nerves, with no movement returning to the area in the way it was before.

I could count myself lucky if I do not end up with ghost chronic pains.

And yet such consequences and details would be felt only later, for that exact moment I do nothing but go back and forth from a restless sleep to an agitated state of semi consciousness, my mind fuzzy, my body boiling up and having an internal fight against the infection to survive, a fierce battle that left little to the rest of the body.

That may be why I say things that should not have been said, or at least not in the way they are, and chose a poor path in the heat of the moment, so akin to my normal self, and yet hurt in more ways than one, more than enough reason to break character.

It was enough motivation to confront Ethan in the few moments of clarity I master to get.

It is night once more when I wake up and sit up with a lot of effort, staying half up half down, barely enough to see where we are, some sort of shallow cave, more as if someone had taken part of the rock away with a spoon with barely enough cover for the rain, close up enough to the exit that a fire could burn just beside me and yet stay outside, the smoke raising towards the dark skies and getting lost with the wind.

I can see Ethan standing beside the fire, putting more wood and with a serious worried expression on his face that, for the first time, makes me truly wonder who is the man pass the friendly and cheerful face, his dreams and aspirations, his worries and fears, the true self behind it all, his story and will.

What he wants for the future... and what he had from the past.

"Where is Natasha?" I ask to get his attention, noticing the lack of the woman around and now worried about what may have happened to them, although I remember hearing her voice in my feverish state, and I’m fairly sure I manage to land us before I passed out...

He stops to look but does not come any closer, poking the fire as he answers:

"They decided to leave, seems like their existence will be a little bit too much for the main island now, and with that apparent horn... well. I think they have to find out for themselves what they will do with this second chance in life, figure things out I supposed..."

Is understandable, one long dead Demon Lord used as a slave all these years, and a young hot minded woman who barely escaped death only to have her humanity usurped from her along with her perspective in life at the main island... is a lot for both to take in, not mentioning the fact that they are sharing a body now, two complete strangers put together for life.

Oh well. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Is a pity I didn’t have a chance to say goodbye, but it is understandable, I just hope they find what they are looking for, whatever it is.

Plus I had my own problems and worries to face at the moment.

"...Ethan, we need to talk." I can see him tense up even from this distance, as if he expected it already.

"Are you... are you truly the son of the Demon Lord?"
