Chapter 147: Chapter 147

I can feel Master Jiang’s hold on me tighten to the point of becoming suffocating, so out of it with my attempt to escape that he even forgot to keep his façade, a snarl of irritation and a shadow of obsession covering his eyes, the grip so strong now that I could feel my organs wanting to burst, but at least such overflowing anger clouds his senses enough so that the Fire Ball is able to hit us!

"Y-you!" He says, angrily turning towards Ethan, not expecting him to truly try and attack him, but even less hitting me in the process, putting fire on my vests.

But that is just what I wanted, and having Jiang not expecting it is what allowed it to work, if barely, for I remembered in the last second of a safeguard given to us by Lewis Fraser, the Owner of the Auction House The Phoenix Plaza, the little trickery he gave every participant, a way back and outside the Demon’s Island, back on the flying boat of the auction house, a talisman that would teleport us back in case of an emergency or when the job was done once it is burn.

And that is exactly what it does.

The Fire Ball burns my clothes and skin along the way, making me hold in a hiss of pain, but is a small price to pain for the fire to be as effective as I hoped and to reach the talisman hidden there in my clothes, and my former Master had no way of knowing about my plans before it was too late, one moment I was there and the other I wasn’t. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

I gasp for air once I find myself on the wooded floorboards of the ship, looking at the sky up close and feeling the chilling familiar air from the high winds.

Then I close my eyes, letting myself have a moment of relief before doing anything else, my heart drumming loudly against the timber boards of the boat, my insides feeling empty as if I had left some of my orgasms back after being teleported away.

And I stayed like that for a moment, one minute, then two minutes, until I realized something is wrong as the minutes drag by and that quiet emptiness remains.

Ethan... where was he?

I finally managed to sit up, still recovering not only from the intrusive sensation but from the extreme hold that was put on my meridians, almost as if I had too much blood in my veins at some point, feeling blunted and stretched thin at the same time.

The heavy sensation stays all over my mind and body, however, as time passes and there is no sign of Ethan, all the possibilities playing in my mind, of how he may have lost his talisman, clumsy as he is, in all that fighting, or that perhaps his did not work, a defective one perhaps? Or did it not work on those of his kind? Perhaps the barrier was stopping him from leaving in that way, or perhaps in any way, was he locked there? Would I never see him again? Had I just left him back there alone with a bunch of ferocious cultivators ready to strike him down?

Before my mind could go any deeper into that line of thought he suddenly puffs into existence and hits the wooden floor with a grunt, but before I could feel any relief with his presence his blood coated body shoots through my eyes and make me ignore my own pain as I grunt my way beside him.

"Ethan, are you alright?!" There are far more wounds and slashes from when I left him, proving that, indeed, he had a hard time escaping them after they realized we had teleportation devices with us.

And yet this crazy devil that I fell in love with only laughs it out, eyes closed in pain but a smile on his face as he gives me a thumbs up.

"We taught them not to mess with us ugh?" He says with a satisfied smile, grinning through the pain, and this time I roll my eyes at his attempt to look strong even now.

Though I cannot say much for myself either.

"Come on, let’s get you pack up." I say, helping him stand up and ignoring my own discomfort and pain through the process, just like he is trying to, thinking what a pair we make. "Not going to have you bleed out on me now."

He laughs again, with less strength behind it. "Yeah, that wouldn’t be nice, I think. Say, what the hell was that back there? Why the hell your master attacked us?"

That was a great question that I feared the answer.

So I keep it vague when I say: "My master, he... he had contact with me without the mask before... And I think it affected him in some way." Like wanting to kidnap me, just like my mother had been.

Guess it is in the family... what a depressing thought.

"Well, he will have to pass through me first." He smiles through the pain which makes me flicker his nose. "Ouch."

"Don’t be stupid, he will beat you to a pulp." I say, for a moment forgetting about any ego I may have hurt and truly worried about this line of thought, after all Master Jiang Min is thousands of years old, and that on the cultivator cycle means he is far stronger than any of us. Ethan, however, only gives me a small smile back, and I almost cannot hear his answer back as he says:

"Then I guess I’ll have to train harder..."

I frown as our conversation is interrupted when Lewis Fraser spots us from the end of the hall, top hat and cane being the simplest part of his outfit as he sighs and beat the cane on the floor, putting his hand on his waist and saying:

"Really now nephew, bleeding all over my floor again?"

If all the demon situation had confused me enough, now I was utterly out at this friendly reaction from what I thought would be just another demon trying to pull Ethan’s leg.

"Now, now, let’s help him out first and then you can beat an answer out of him later." At that he shushes me away with his hand, and I hear him mutter something about not wanting to get his clothes dirty as I, with my own injuries, have to take Ethan into the infirmary.

Alone.

Because of clothes.

Were all demons this selfish and eccentric?
