Reincarnated into a Snow Griffin-Chapter 148
I did not go as far as to beat the words out of Ethan but I did something worse, I stared him down judgmentally until he crumbled under the pressure.
"Look, I mean, uhm... I was telling you all there is to tell, really."
I just raise one single eyebrow while bringing the drink to my lips.
"I mean, I told you he was my uncle and all... The fact that we were actually working together in secret to take down my father Demon Lord while keeping and a hate each other relationship as disguise would have come out eventually." I do not answer still, my lack of commentary building up even more pressure than my expression alone.
"I swear I was gonna, I had all the intention of letting you know the first opportunity I got, it’s just that ... this is far bigger than only you and I."
"... And you thought I could not help in something so big?" I finally say, pressing him against the wall which makes him go silent, but I’m not really that mad and just want to make my point clear, knowing full well that a plan like this could not be disclosure without a care even if it was for me, in fact I would take him for a fool if he had told me about it beforehand, it’s no wonder people often become sex partners with someone as a way of gathering information, it usually lowers the guard down.
"Alright, now that I know I will help out any way I can." I see his eyes shine at my answer, already expecting the worst I presume, but then I turn to the other issue at hand. "But care to explain what the hell is going on with you Lily?"
That’s right, sitting together with us at our table it’s no other than the small blonde fairy herself with her petite feet crossed in front of her while she sipped at a very tiny teacup, the well known air of grace, arrogance and superiority that I learned to know and despise and love all the same around her.
Goodness I missed this little devil of a lady.
"Well, this lady had her own share of difficulties when this lady fell down from the Higher Lands, but this lady managed her way around gracefully." She put herself in higher standards and brushed any difficulties aside, but her messy now short hair and her once smooth long white wings now battered and with even some cuts here and there tell a completely different story.
I do not pry around the subject, however, I know just how prideful she is and how asking any further would only annoy her, so I say instead:
"What I mean is how come you were already free when we came back, walking around like you owned the place?" She flusters her wings, opening a mischievous prideful smile as she says:
"But of course, because this lady is a capable sort! This lady freed herself and put these devils in their place!" Remembering the powerful wind magic that such a small body was capable of producing back in the lion fight I did not doubt her capabilities in the slightest.
Ethan, who was quietly watching the conversation unfold on the side, finally speaks up, bending to my side to murmur: "Once we discover she was a friend of yours I promptly asked her to be well taken care of, although she had already beat half the people in this ship to their knees."
Yeah, I do not doubt in the slightest, I think while being my turn to silently take a sip of my drink.
The words come and go in our small talk, at some point coming to the subject of Ethan eating the heart of the creature, which lead to all the chaos after, like a sand castle being hit by a storm, with no resistance as it dissipated, but as odd looking as it were he merely said:
"The Demon Lord is quite strong and powerful, the most powerful demon without a doubt, and not only he has more experience than me but gains in raw power, I needed to find an edge to boost my own powers and by using the very own ability that made the Demon Lord, my father, so strong to begging with, and that is Spellbinding, we are able to literally suck and eat the power of others out." He seems ashamed of telling me all of this just now, especially when he mumbles to himself:
"And we were doing so great together..."
I sip my drink. "And yet your solution was to hide and lie to me? Didn’t you think this would be much worse later on?" He doesn’t answer and I sigh, giving time for my head to cool down on the subject before saying anything anymore, figuring that, indeed, taking out the Demon Lord is not an easy task, even more if he had such ability as well and years to use it on others.
Makes me question if absorbing the powers of the Ghost City would truly put Ethan in match against his father’s strength, having years to use his wicked ways to absorve other’s powers.
But I’m not going to lie... It gets me a little excited to see these two titans confronting each other, and actually fills me with a hot prideful sensation when I think it is my man we are talking about, is Ethan who is going to match such power of nature, and I will be by his side all the way, fighting together. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
However is too much fun to let him think that I am mad at him, so I’ll let it cook for a while just as a punishment for keeping secrets from me again.
And even more... we had other subjects to attend to, and one quite urgent as well:
"Tell my Lily... can you tell me where my mother is? Where the High Lands are?" Is like a winter cold stormy wind has pushed its way into the room, the tension palpable as I wait for her answer.
I can see Lily is uncomfortable with the question, and that in itself is already a red alert for she’s always overly confident and never unease with anything, or at she hides it well enought.
"This lady does not know." She already starts by giving me the answer that I did not want to hear, explaining further: "Fairies are not meant to travel far from their place of birth, we are meant to protect it and the forest and we do not have any sense of migrating directions towards it. Sorry Seraph, this lady really is sorry, but there is nothing thos lady can do to help you with that. "
I do not answer at first, pretending it did not affect me by clenching the teacup, and even though I was really happy that I had saved Lily, even though she did not need it in the end, I could not help the despair and emptiness that threatened to craw their way up my spine once more at the other many years that would follow searching for a way to save her.
But then Lily says:
"This lady, however, knows of someone that can help... but you won’t like it."
