Chapter 58: Chapter 58

It takes more than two days by foot to get to our destination as the Cultivators do not want to ride their swords while using their cultivations with me for I would not be able to withstand the force of the wind, or at least so they say as they do not know what type of creature I’m, riding the wind is a must in my list.

But I would like to keep them with their ignorance, it would be hard to predict what type of reaction such cultivators would have with a Magical Beast like myself, and I’m reminded of my good for nothing father that worked as one of their pets.

And that is something I would completely frown upon and did not wish for myself.

Some Cultivators went up ahead first and used their swords to ride the winds, going to warn about the mission situation and that I was coming too, but some stayed behind to guide me and those days gave me enough time to promp them of information, gathering quite a lot of it as the young cultivators seemed to enjoy showing off their knowledge any given time.

The Cultivator Realm, as the ones living in it like to call it, is formed by sects of many kinds that are placed where there is most natural Qi energy in them to be absorbed and where the cultivators usually establish their sect bases and train day and night to achieve immortality.

These places are usually devoted of people, closer to the natural state of the earth with trees, rivers and magical creatures all over, and giving the increasing humanoid population is no surprise that such places end up being the high isolated peak mountains, which gives an almost poetic meaning for those trying to step above the mundane barriers as they stay closer to the skies frontiers.

So it is common knowledge of the superstitious folk people to avoid and to not meddle in the mountains for the mystical spiritual entities are always there, and as cultivators often deal with such matters, they are actually not quite wrong in that regard.

The Cultivator Realm sects that I’m taken to is one of the most prominent ones of the continent, located in an area abundant of energy and wild life to the southwest region in between human territory, and not having to compete with the dwarves for territory like the ones northeast nor deal with the cold from the northwest, staying in between merchant cities over GoldenLeaf, Kinallen and Matlock is quite a blessing.

If it wasn’t for the filled with demons islands from the south, there is, but that is another tale on itself as they, too, were good hunting experience for some, and were seen as a farming place for resources and experience for the younger cultivators ones.

That practice makes me twist my nose in disgust, but there is nothing the lowly me can do in that regard as of now.

And, unfortunate, at that time, I was too concerned about my own problems to care as much too.

Master Jiang Min, the one to talk with me back at the ghost town, saw potential in me and brought me back to be tested first things first, and was thrilled when my wind and ice elements came to light, been rare to have fewer root elements and as such more concentrated energy among humans, usually having up to five to six elements mixed together and in weaker amounts.

For humans, that is.

For monsters and magical creatures, however, it is not as rare, what is rare is to have a great constitution and high intelligence like myself and mother.

I’ll not include that lion bastard in the count, not my good for nothing father.

But my bestial condition is something I told no one, not even master, and since I insisted in keeping my face hidden it wasn’t that hard to avoid suspicious in that regard, though rumors about how loathsome my face should be to be hidden like this and steer master’s pity grows like weeds all around the young cultivators, soon spreading like a wild forest fire.

I do not mind though, it avoids a lot of trouble I could into if the truth was out and this hateful beauty evolution come up once more to cause me trouble.

Nor that it has caused me trouble yet... or did it? I just had a feeling that it was best to keep my... unique abilities at bay like this.

They explained a lot of things to me, on how the there were separations on the Cultivating Realm, not only from the type of field worked on, but on quality of the student, and the best ones like myself are pulled to be Inner Disciples, learning directly from a master and earning more crystal core per month than the others and having access to better materials overall, while the other with less potential were left as Outer Disciples, receiving less material as to not waste such scare resources in weaker not promising disciples.

Above it all are the Succeeding Disciples, there is only one per master and, as the name entails, they are the succeeding ones of such master, to take their place once they ascend or die by not succeeding into immortality.

Most belonged to that weaker type of course, and as much that it could be considered unfair to some that is just the way things are in the Cultivating Realm, and as a beast I quite understand that part of the stronger preying on the weak, and having so few resources and a name to keep the Realms sects would not waste time in the lower five elements students.

Other separation, too, is in regard of the practices of each Realm sect, and as my master I join the practice of runes and enchantment, specializing not only in imbuing energy in weapons and objects, but increasing the power conjuring runes as I had seen written in my magic book and its barriers.

That one was kept a secret too, though I could not remember why it would catch unwanted attention, I had the feeling it was best to keep the book to myself too.

The lesser they know about my past, the better.

The other peaks contained the other practicing Realms sects, from the Peaceful Heavenly Tortoise, the serene rich Pills refiners, to the Stunning Golden Tiger, with their low casting power but prominent martial artists, to the ones northeast from the Feral Starlight Cultivator with their magical creatures tamers, and last but not least the Immortal Divine Spirit sharing mountains with the Feral and the dwarves, practicing qi energy with instrumental cultivators.

The other Realms were not worth mentioning for their lack of power, or for their lack of morality, because it was not enough to have demons, we had to have demonic cultivators too.

But where there are the upstanding immortals, there is bound to have the opposite side to raise havoc, and one of the missions bestowed upon those upstanding of the Cultivator Realm is to not only erase all evil, but to keep peace and balance of the energy of the earth.

We did not mingle with human wars as death of mortals is part of the earth’s cycle, but as one tries to bring the dead back from their slumber and break the natural order or suck life of others, that’s when we interfere.

And that is all I learn just on the first two days before arriving, and beyond being tested, the first day in the sect I spend by being guided to my room and resting up after such a long tiresome journey.

Only the next day would my classes finally begin.
