Chapter 1501: A Dilemma

As the old master made his journey back through the gate, and while William remained submerged in his work—spreading his needles and spears into the depths of the Medium World—the situation back in the lower realm was reaching a fever pitch of intensity.

William’s friends and the guild’s faction leaders were gathered in a tense circle, caught in a web of hesitation.

For the past week, their singular, driving goal had been clear: crush the enemy gates on their side, secure stable access to the Medium World from at least three key locations, and then rush to their guild master’s side to provide the reinforcements he so desperately needed.

Yet, the news Anna had delivered had thrown a wrench into their entire battle map. There was now a mighty, legendary force from the upper realm active on the other side. More importantly, she had brought a specific instruction from William himself.

"Use our help to stabilise your world; that’s what he asked me to tell you," Anna said, her bright eyes moving across the confused and weary faces of William’s inner circle.

"Are you saying he doesn’t need our help there?" Fang asked, his voice startled and thick with disbelief. He had arrived at the headquarters shortly after Berry to check on the progress of the rescue mission.

Learning about Anna had triggered the same spiralling, confused thoughts that everyone else was currently battling. To Fang, the idea of William fighting alone—even with his crafted monsters—was a weight he couldn’t easily bear.

"He now has my Blue Purgators to help," the old master interrupted as he stepped back into the meeting tent. He gave Fang a short, piercing glance, recognising the man’s explosive strength with a single veteran look.

"I just came from a meeting with our leader. He is directing the full, unrestricted strength of the Blue Purgators to aid William in his plans. For now..."

The old man turned toward the maps laid out on the nearby tables, his finger tracing the lines marking the bear-infested territories. "Let us repay a little of what we owe William. Let us help you save your world. I can tell from these maps that the situation is quite difficult and nearing a point of no return."

"It indeed is," Lara sighed, the exhaustion of a week-long brutal fighting finally showing in the lines around her eyes. She exchanged a long, silent glance with the other faction leaders—Berry, Sara, Ro, Lina, and others. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"We have been attacked by relentless Scarlet Bear tides for many days now. We have lost tens of millions of people, and huge stretches of our world are now void of any human presence. We are barely holding the line, but we are stretched thin. We need any help we can get, for sure!"

"Leave it to us then!" Anna exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with a level of excitement that seemed almost out of place in a war meeting. She looked like a child about to embark on her first grand adventure rather than a commander entering a world-fate war.

"Are they really as strong as they say? I’ve seen them from the castle walls, but I’ve never actually fought one of these bears before."

She directed her question toward the old master, her mentor and protector. The veteran warrior didn’t share her youthful enthusiasm; instead, he responded with a grim, heavy nod. He had seen what the Scarlet Bears did to those who were unprepared.

"Individually, they are not a match for our prowess, but we have very few numbers under our direct command," he said, gesturing to the several hundred masters dispatched by Anna’s father.

"However, make no mistake—every single one of the men and women standing behind us is a powerhouse in his or her own right, even with the suppression of this world’s laws. The most effective way for us to assist is to lead your existing armies and help stabilise the collapsing fronts."

"This..." Fang’s expression shifted the moment he heard the old man’s assessment and offer. He wasn’t the only one; a ripple of realisation went through the other faction leaders.

The primary obstacle they had faced for the past week wasn’t just the strength of the bears, but the lack of high-level masters capable of anchoring a defensive line. They were fighting a war of attrition where they were being simply spread too thin to cover the vast territories.

"We actually already have the means to kill the bears relatively easily," Becky interjected. As the one who bridged the gap between the two worlds, she understood the tactical situation better than any of the Purgators.

She looked at the old master and added, "What we lack, to be honest, are enough masters to form more armies, reinforce the existing ones. If we had enough masters to organise the resistance into larger armies, we would have crushed these monster tides long ago!"

"You have ways to kill them easily? Interesting," the old master’s eyes shone with a sudden, sharp curiosity. He leaned over the table, his interest piqued. "I would very much like to see this unique method of yours. If it came from William, I am certain it is something entirely new to my experience."

"It certainly is," Becky chuckled, thinking of the specialised spears William had designed. "But even with the weapons, the main problem of manpower and coordination still exists. We can’t be everywhere at once."

"There is no problem regarding the number of spirit masters," the old master said, raising a hand to cut her off. He pointed a weathered finger at the maps of the world, tracing the isolated islands of human survivors.

"Your world already has more than enough masters to win this war, but they are scattered, terrified, and unorganised. All you need to do is establish portals with these isolated pockets and arrange their lines into a unified front!"

Lara looked around the room, her eyes meeting those of the other girls. What the old man was describing was exactly their current dilemma—the great wall they hadn’t been able to climb.
