Return With the Billionaire Baby Daddy-Chapter 130: Tell him and curious
At 11.00 p.m...
In the recovery room, Valerie sat on a chair, watching Damian who remained unconscious after undergoing surgery due to severe abdominal injuries. She was deeply shocked, unable to speak other than crying and continuously praying for her husband’s well-being, even abandoning her plans to surprise him.
The day felt incredibly dark, like a nightmare, and regret arose for not telling him about her pregnancy. She continued to gaze at her husband, shirtless with medical equipment attached to his body, indicating his fragility.
"If only I had told you when you called, maybe you would have come home sooner... Perhaps the outcome would have been different," she thought to herself, tears streaming down her face as she held his hand. "I promise not to tell anyone because you deserve to know first... You’ll be a father again... Maybe it’s a baby girl like you wanted... You have to wake up... You have to welcome her!"
"Valerie..."
Elena, who had been standing behind Valerie, touched her shoulder.
"I don’t want to go home," Valerie whispered. "I won’t leave until he wakes up... I have to make sure he’ll wake up and be okay," she continued in tears.
"But Daniel needs you," Darius, standing on the right side of the bed, replied.
"He’ll be fine with his nanny."
"Alright, if that’s what you want, I’ll stay with Daniel. Let me know when Damian wakes up," Darius said, then looked at Elena.
"I’ll stay here," Elena replied softly.
"Okay."
Darius nodded, then left the room with Elena’s escort. Valerie focused back on Damian, growing more worried as he still hadn’t woken up after more than 6 hours post-surgery. She rested her head on her husband’s hand, imagining sweet moments together, even the morning they had shared.
"Didn’t you want to see me craving, to give me anything I wanted? Then why did you hurt yourself like this... You fought... You should have avoided it!" she thought to herself, feeling frustrated remembering the testimony of someone saying Damian had fought with a man before getting severely injured. "Who is that man? Why did you fight him? Was it because of a big issue or just a trivial matter but you couldn’t control yourself?"
Damian felt his hand wet and slightly warm, then heard cries and the sound of the heart rate monitor, making him struggle to open his eyes and move his fingers.
"Honey!"
Valerie immediately lifted her head and looked at Damian eagerly, even standing to see him more clearly as his eyes slowly opened.
"Baby, you woke up!" she cried again, moved, continuing to hold her husband’s hand.
Weakly, Damian glanced at Valerie, feeling dizzy, his stomach feeling strange, painful, and tight simultaneously, and then his mind started to recall what happened before he lost consciousness.
"What? What do you feel? Are you in pain? Wait... I’ll call the doctor!" Valerie exclaimed, releasing her grip on Damian’s hand.
"No," Damian whispered, weakly holding Valerie’s hand. "Stay here..."
Valerie sighed, sitting back down.
"It’s so horrible," Damian whispered with a worried look, seeing Valerie’s sad face. "I must have made you so sad..."
"Yes, of course... You scared me to death!" Valerie replied angrily, tears falling again.
"Sorry... I didn’t mean to make you sad and scared... I was even afraid I wouldn’t wake up again, wouldn’t see you again," Damian whispered with shallow breaths as if suffocating. "The pain feels like it’s killing me..."
"You have to be strong, you have to hang on, get better, for me!" Valerie held Damian’s hand with both of hers and kissed it.
Damian just smiled and nodded faintly, then remembered their plan to have lunch together.
"Did you cook for me?" he asked.
"Yes, but it’s not finished," Valerie replied with a pout. "I was preparing roast chicken and salad, but then there was a call from the police saying you were injured and taken to the hospital... So I rushed to the hospital without finishing the cook!"
"Sorry... I made you panic even though you weren’t feeling well."
Valerie smiled thinly, remembering her initial plan to tell Damian about her pregnancy.
"You don’t have to keep worrying about my condition because this is part of our good news," she said.
"What’s that?" Damian furrowed his brow.
Valerie smiled. "You have to guess!"
"No... I can’t."
"Then you’re stupid... You only like to fight, you’d rather fight than guess what’s happening with your wife!" Valerie exclaimed, pouting.
Damian chuckled softly, feeling his stomach ache again but not showing it to Valerie.
"My dear, I’ve never been like that," he whispered. "But now I don’t want to think... Just tell me," he continued.
"Um... I’ll just say that maybe Daniel won’t be able to get breast milk from me anymore... You know what that means," Valerie replied teasingly.
Damian furrowed his brow, trying to find the meaning behind Valerie’s statement. He remembered that after their honeymoon, Valerie failed to stop breastfeeding Daniel out of pity for him and decided to stop breastfeeding if she got pregnant.
"Oh my..." his eyes widened instantly as he found the answer.
"What?" Valerie asked, smiling teasingly.
"Tell me I’m right... We’re going to have a second child!" Damian requested with a serious expression.
Slowly but surely, Valerie nodded.
"Oh my God..." Damian reached out his hand, wanting to hug her. "You’re not lying, are you? You’re not joking?"
Valerie leaned down to hug Damian gently.
"No, I’m not joking... You got it right," she said.
Damian sighed, kissing Valerie’s cheek, letting her continue to hug him until a sense of sadness arose because his weak and painful body prevented him from welcoming her pregnancy properly, even making him very worried. Suddenly tears flowed from his eyes, unable to hold back his sadness.
Valerie heard Damian’s cries and immediately released her embrace, looking at him sadly and wiping his tears with her thumb.
"Why are you crying? Isn’t this good news?" Damian nodded slowly.
"This is something I’ve been waiting for... I’m so happy. But unfortunately, I’m helpless now... I feel useless to you now... I should be able to help you through your tough times... Not make you scared!" Damian cried, holding back the immense pain in his stomach. "I’m so stupid...!"
"No... You shouldn’t say that," Valerie shook her head. "You’re not stupid at all... It’s me who’s stupid for not telling you when you called so you wouldn’t rush to see me and end up getting into a fight with that stranger... It’s my fault!"
Damian took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, trying to calm himself.
Valerie sat back after adjusting the oxygen tube on Damian’s nose.
"Now don’t think too much... You need to rest, you need to get better to fulfill your promise to me," she said with a smile. "You know pregnant women will have cravings... And you have to be ready to provide whatever I want!" she continued enthusiastically, showing her optimistic attitude.
Damian nodded with a faint smile, looking at Valerie until he became curious about her belly.
"Can I touch our baby?" He asked.
"Sure..."
Valerie promptly stood up and reached for Damian’s hand, directing it to caress her abdomen covered by a brownish-white blouse.
"Your stomach is still very tight... I can’t wait to see it grow... You’ll probably look very cute," Damian whispered.
Valerie chuckled. "I think I’ll look ugly instead of cute. My cheeks will be chubby, and my waist will widen... It’s really bad."
"But it’ll be my pride... I feel proud because you’re carrying my child again... It’s a sign that you truly love me," Damian said.
Valerie pouted instead. "Even before I got pregnant with Daniel, before the second pregnancy, I already loved you so much!"
Damian chuckled softly, feeling amused by Valerie’s sometimes difficult yet seemingly disdainful attitude, but he didn’t want to protest much because he realized he was indeed annoying.
Suddenly, the door opened.
He glanced over and found his mother entering the room with an enthusiastic smile.
"Oh, my son!" Elena immediately approached Damian from the left side of the bed. "You’re finally awake!"
Damian just smiled, letting his mother hug him for a moment.
"What are you feeling now?" Elena asked anxiously. "I didn’t expect you to be in this situation..."
"It’s not too bad," Damian replied, then glanced at Valerie while his right hand touched her stomach. "I thought I was going to die today, but God saved me and now gave me a great gift..."
"What?"
"Daniel will have a sibling," Damian said with a smile.
Elena immediately widened her eyes and looked at Valerie, who smiled back at her.
"She’s pregnant," Damian said again.
"Oh... Holy moly!" Elena quickly approached with tears in her eyes, as if deeply touched by the good news. She immediately embraced her daughter-in-law. "Oh, my girl..."
Valerie just stayed silent with a relieved smile until Elena let go of her hug.
"Since when did you realize you’re pregnant?" Elena asked.
"This morning," Valerie answered. "I’ve been feeling nauseous and missed my period since I got married to Damian. So I took a test using 8 test kits... Only one or two showed negative results, the rest were positive... So I’m sure... I’m pregnant," she explained.
"Oh my God..." Elena sighed. "Congratulations... I’m really happy with this news. But why didn’t you tell me earlier?"
"Because I wanted Damian to be the first to know after me." Valerie glanced at Damian again. "But unfortunately, he ended up fighting and getting severely injured... I had to postpone telling him."
Elena immediately looked back at Damian with some annoyance.
"Look what happens when you can’t control your emotions? You can’t welcome your wife’s pregnancy... you can’t support her now!" She said angrily.
"I don’t know..." Damian shook his head slowly and looked down. "I just couldn’t bear to see that guy hurting his mother-in-law, even going as far as to kick her out on the street. So I intended to teach him a lesson... I never thought he would do something as bad as this to me..."
Valerie furrowed her brows. "This is weird... How could he hurt you so badly when the reason you fought was just because you didn’t like his attitude towards his mother-in-law... He should have just punched you... Not stab you more than once. It seems like he was already prepared to fight you and then stab you!"
