Return With the Billionaire Baby Daddy-Chapter 131: Suspect the perpetrator
Damian furrowed his brow, remembering his altercation with the burly man earlier that afternoon was because he was defending his mother-in-law. It made him wonder where the woman was and who had first come to his rescue, as it had been very quiet there.
"Darling, aren’t you suspicious of that man?" Valerie asked.
"I don’t know, I was just so angry because he was so cruel to his mother-in-law," Damian replied with a worried look. "I feel like I can’t let a man like him hurt that woman..."
"Okay, so you’re like this just because you want to save that woman, but now where is she?" Elena asked, raising her eyebrows, and then looking at Valerie. "Did you get any information about who first helped Damian?" she asked.
Valerie nodded and said, "The first person to help him was a man... The police told me. They didn’t mention anything about the middle-aged woman being there."
Damian fell silent in confusion.
"It’s very strange that if you were injured because of her, but in the end, she just left like that? Didn’t she try to stop her son-in-law?" Elena asked again.
"I think she didn’t dare... She just shouted and asked him to stop beating me," Damian replied anxiously. "After I was badly hurt... I was so helpless but I remember that she just stayed silent when he stabbed me for the second time," he continued.
"This is very strange, really strange and I can’t accept it!" Valerie exclaimed in frustration. "How could she let him stab you for the second time? She could have screamed for help, or even tried to stop him, instead of just staying silent..."
Damian was stunned, feeling strange too.
"If she had Humanity, she should have helped you, or even be here now," Valerie said again.
"Maybe she’ll be back with him again, maybe she’ll get rid of him," Damian replied. "Maybe he is worried that she will testify to the police... so, he has to take her away from here," he continued, trying to stay optimistic.
"I don’t believe it..." Valerie shook her head. "From her silence when he stabbed you again, it already shows that she wanted to see you hurt. Maybe they’re just conspiring!"
"Conspiring?" Elena furrowed her brow, as did Damian.
"Maybe they’re just pretending... Their main goal is to harm you. If not, the woman would try to help you, or even be here!" Valerie insisted, unable to contain her anger because it made Damian suffer so much with his injuries. "I think I should contact the police. This needs to be investigated!" she continued, then immediately stepped away to grab her phone from her bag on the nightstand.
Damian sighed, silent in confusion, exhaustion, pain, and of course feeling guilty because his careless attitude had made Valerie and his family sad.
"What if this is the work of your enemy?" Elena asked.
"Who’s my enemy?" Damian asked back with his still weak voice. "I don’t have enemies anymore... I mean, I do have enemies but he’s in jail..."
"You mean Samuel?"
"Yeah... He’s the one who hurt me before, but now he’s in jail... So, he won’t do it again, he’ll rot there!" Damian whispered with his fierce gaze.
"Are you sure?" Elena looked doubtful.
"Of course I’m sure."
"But it’s unlikely that man would immediately hurt you just because he didn’t like you interfering in his family matters... Especially since he doesn’t know you at all," Elena said, then sighed and sat down, thinking about whether all of this would continue or if it was just because the burly man was indeed crazy. But suddenly she remembered Karina, who was so good at orchestrating crime scenarios especially when pretending to be sick, then ordering Tristan to be Daniel’s savior when she had arranged for the kidnapper.
’That woman is so good at arranging crime scenarios... Maybe she’s the one who did it... She deliberately created a game that attracted Damian to quarrel with the man by using the old woman so that it would look like a new conflict but her goal is to harm him,’ she thought angrily.
"Ugh..." Damian groaned in pain as he tried to shift positions.
Elena immediately stood up, trying to help Damian as he was very weak.
"Wait, I’ll call the doctor," she said.
Damian just stayed silent, letting his mother call the doctor. Occasionally he took a deep breath and exhaled slowly while looking at the white ceiling of the room.
’Damn... I have to imprison that damn man, he has to rot in jail!’ he thought angrily.
A few moments later, the male doctor arrived with Elena and Valerie. He immediately examined Damian, while Valerie and Elena watched anxiously.
"What did the police say?" Elena whispered as she leaned her face towards Valerie’s ear.
"They’re still investigating who that man is," Valerie whispered, furrowing her brow. "I’m sure... He did have bad intentions towards Damian, with or without family issues," she continued.
Elena nodded, then remembered Karina. She immediately took Valerie out and stopped at the waiting chairs.
"I suspect someone," she said as she sat down in the chair next to Valerie.
"Who?"
"Karina..."
Valerie furrowed her brow. "Karina... Could it be her? But she’s happy with Tristan... Why would she do this? Besides, she used to love Damian..."
She shook her head anxiously and remembered Karina’s face. "She couldn’t possibly want to hurt Damian."
"Sometimes love will make someone obsessed to the point of hurting," Elena whispered.
Valerie was shocked, still unable to accuse Karina behind all of this considering she was happy with Tristan, even inviting Damian to their wedding.
"Do you remember how she brought Tristan into your life?" Elena asked. "She was so cunning... Paying someone to pretend to kidnap Daniel and then Tristan became his savior so you let him become your friend... She also deceived me, Damian, her father, and everyone else by pretending to be sick... she even prepared it so well... She paid the doctor.. nurses... She never played around with her actions... She would do anything to get what she wants... Including making herself pregnant by Tristan but accusing Damian... She’s a snake!" she continued angrily as if she hated Karina so much.
"Mom..." Valerie swallowed hard, looking at Elena seriously. "but now what’s happening is Damian is injured. Could she have done it? What’s her goal in injuring my husband?"
"Of course because she still doesn’t want you to be happy with him..." Elena shrugged. "What else if not that? Jealousy has made her insane... Maybe she told the man to be rough on the old woman to get Damian’s attention... Maybe he already predicted Damian would cross that street..., Or even been spying on him. Besides, if he was just a stranger who had nothing to do with Damian, he wouldn’t stab him twice, and that woman wouldn’t just leave after Damian collapsed..." She asserted, looking at Valerie who still looked hesitant.
Valerie fell silent, confused.
"Moreover, who else could be Damian’s enemy if not her? Even though she’s been acting nice, she might still be an enemy to both of you... It’s all just a trick to manipulate both of you," Elena returned with her theory. "And maybe Tristan is helping her because he’s stupid... He does everything in the name of love, regardless of whether it’s right or wrong!"
"I can’t deny that everything you’re saying makes sense... I shouldn’t have trusted Karina or even Tristan," Valerie replied, recalling how Tristan, despite being clever at pretending, was willing to get battered because of a fight with Damian just to stay close to him after frequent arguments, all for Karina.
Suddenly, Elena stood up.
"I’ll go to your house; I need to look after Daniel and talk to my husband," she said.
Valerie also stood up.
"I’ll contact Hans to come here soon... He’ll look after you and Damian," Elena said again, gazing at Valerie with compassion before hugging her. "You have to stay calm... My husband and I will investigate this case. You just need to focus on Damian and your pregnancy."
"Yes, Mom... Thank you," Valerie whispered with teary eyes, quickly wiping them away.
Elena released her embrace and left immediately, while Valerie returned to the recovery room, seeing Damian, who had finished being examined by the doctor.
"His condition is still quite weak; don’t let him move too much," the doctor said.
Valerie just nodded, and then the doctor left. She shifted to sit in a chair, looking at Damian, who was silent but not asleep.
"Sorry," Damian whispered, reaching out his hand to Valerie’s face, gently caressing her cheek. "I’ve made you worried... And the worst part is you can’t rest when you need to," he continued with his sad gaze.
"I’m okay," Valerie said shortly.
"You must be experiencing nausea, headaches... and fatigue."
"No, I don’t feel that." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"You’re lying... I’ve seen my mother pregnant... Carrying my twin siblings. She went through tough times, and I always saw my father with her, supporting her," Damian said anxiously. "And foolishly, I couldn’t provide help and support to you... Even in your first pregnancy, I wasn’t there for you... What kind of a father am I?"
Valerie reached for Damian’s hand and held it.
"Don’t think like that... You being alive right now is already something that makes me very happy," she said, furrowing her brows, unable to hide her sadness. "Today felt like a nightmare when I heard you were severely injured and had to undergo surgery. I was terrified... Like when I feared losing Daniel when Samuel hurt you... I’m glad because you’re finally safe, and we can talk again..."
"Talking about our baby."
"Yes... Isn’t that wonderful?"
"Yes... but it would be even more wonderful if we talked about it with Daniel too; he must be very happy," Damian said with a faint smile.
