Revenge Wears Red Lipstick-Chapter 124: At The Supermarket
Ryan was at a supermarket in Timbelwood. He’d returned to the city after taking care for some matters in Lexora.
Lexora was only on a four-hour flight to Timbelwood, so he could come and go as he wanted.
He checked the products, sampling them with very keen eyes. He read the ingredients, even going as far as googling them to make sure that they wouldn’t stir any sort of reaction from Eva if she ate the snacks.
She’d lost so much weight from being in a coma for so long, and since she woke up, she barely ate. She still ate breakfast and dinner normally, but the portion has been dwindling with every day that passes by.
"This contains milk. She can’t have it," he said to himself. With his cart full of food, he didn’t stop himself from going to the ice cream section.
Eva may be lactose intolerant but ice cream was probably the only edible thing made with milk she could eat and proudly wait for the consequences later.
Ryan dropped several ice cream containers filled with different kinds of flavors into his cart.
Only when the cart was as huge as a mountain did he stop. Even the other shoppers were starting to give him a cautious look.
Ryan scanned around, making sure he didn’t forget any of Eva’s favorite snacks when his eyes caught a glimpse of pink hair before disappearing in a section filled with goods.
The pink hair reminded Ryan of someone familiar.
He stared for a little while longer, waiting to see if he would still see the person or not.
"Sir..." The cashier called, slowly drifting Ryan out of his trance.
"Of course." His products were all scanned, he paid and left the supermarket, still giving slight turns in case he would catch the person with the pink hair.
With a sigh, Ryan turned towards his car which was parked right outside the supermarket. After stuffing everything in his booth, he walked the cart back where he had picked it from when he saw a man walking out with a grocery bag, his hair full of pink hair.
Ryan’s heart skipped a beat.
"Rico?" He called but the person kept on walking, completely ignoring his call. "Rico." He called once again. But the person still ignored him.
Ryan pulled the arm of the man, stopping him in his tracks and his jaw dropped.
"Do we have a problem, sir?" The odd-looking man with the pink hair asked.
Ryan quickly took his hand off of him and raised them in surrender.
"Not at all. I’m sorry, I mistook you to be someone else," he explained.
The other man glared at him before cursing under his breath and then left.
Ryan’s shoulders slumped in relief but there was still this ache in his heart. For a second there, he thought that man would be Rico.
"Ryan?" He heard someone call from behind him.
He turned, and once he saw the face, his heart skipped a beat.
Rico was standing there in full flesh, his pink hair looking thinner than the last time he’d seen it.
Ryan walked towards him like he was in a trance.
"Your hair is thinner now," he commented, raising his hand to touch it, but paused, as if sensing it was wrong.
Rico touched his hair instinctively. "That’s what too much dye does to your hair," he replied.
"At this rate, you’re going to be needing a hair implant before you get to fifty."
A smile bloomed on Rico’s face.
"I’ll ask for your hair, since it’s looking so healthy," he joked back.
Ryan instinctively touched his hair but didn’t say anything.
"What are you doing here?" Rico asked.
"Came to get some stuff. I see you also came to get groceries," he said, glancing down at the bag in his hands.
"That’s right," he replied, silence suddenly coming to envelop them in awkwardness. "I haven’t seen you for almost a year now. After everything that happened, with Eva..." He drawled, not sure if he shouldn’t be mentioning that. But he gave up on thinking. "Is she really dead? Dante has been searching for her."
Ryan’s lips thinned. "And why would he be doing so? He betrayed her. She died because of him."
Rico was silent for a second. "Eva is dead, huh?" He asked, his tone suddenly sorrowful.
He’d interacted with Eva in the past a good number of times, and he thought he was finally making a friend, not until Mr. De Rossi struck.
"She is," Ryan replied, his lips getting thinner. It was the only lie they could tell for now, even though Eva was busy making her comeback in the modeling industry. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
"I’m sorry for what happened," said Rico. "None of this was supposed to happen. But I can tell you this, Dante loves Eva very much. He had a reason for keeping the truth from her. If he didn’t...then someone close to him would be killed."
Ryan frowned at this. Then he scoffed. "Someone close to him? If he needed help, he could have just asked for help," he snapped. "Because of him, Eva is no more. You know what, I think it’s time we said goodbye to each other."
Without waiting for his reply, Ryan turned to the car and left.
Rico was staring at his back until he disappeared into his car, his body stiff and unable to move.
It’s been so long since he last met Ryan, but now, it feels like they’d drifted apart. Even though they weren’t in a relationship, Rico was sure he was starting to have feelings for Ryan.
But how was he going to explain to Ryan properly so he would understand that Dante had no choice but to do what he did?
Without wasting more time, he got into his car and drove off. He needed to come up with a plan. Dante needs help, and if the Montclairs can assist him, things would go well and Dante might be completely free from his father’s clutches.
