Revenge Wears Red Lipstick-Chapter 125: Comeback
It’s been almost a year, and Dante was a second away from believing that Eva was no more. Several months have passed and he’s gotten more cranky than he used to be.
His employees walked on eggshells, and if one of them made the mistake of making too much noise, they’d get yelled at or, worse, fired.
Everyone has been on mute for the longest time, all silently praying that Eva was found so that their boss would go back to being normal again.
"I asked for documents regarding their company’s history, and you’re bringing me stuff that happened only this year? What am I supposed to do with that?" He snapped at his secretary, his eyes red with rage.
The woman was already tearing up, as she picked up the file he threw on the ground.
"Get out!!" He yelled. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
She sobbed as she bolted out of the room as if a devil was chasing after her.
Dante pinched his forehead in frustration when he realized what he’d done.
It’s been this way for a while, and the more he tries to act sane, the more he wasn’t able to get any proper words right.
He glanced at Eva’s portrait he’d installed in his office. It was a picture of her when she walked down the runway at the Sirena fashion show.
He’d secretly taken the photo of her without her realizing it. Since she disappeared, he’d had the photo framed into a portrait, sitting on his walls.
Once he saw her smile, he couldn’t help but smile also.
He’d been searching for her for so long already, but he couldn’t find her.
Even if she were alive, would she still come back to him?
Dante didn’t get the chance to answer his own question when a phone call rang in his office.
It was his father calling.
He picked up the call.
"When are you coming? It’s already getting late," said the older man.
"I’m on my way."
Dante hung up on the call and stood up reluctantly.
He grabbed his jacket, stepped out of his office, and out of his company building.
After half an hour’s drive, he arrived at the venue where the party was taking place.
It was a party his father had organized to celebrate his birthday which had already passed. Dante didn’t want to come, but the old man had been pestering him for the longest time because he wanted to introduce him to his new friends he had just made if Dante were a toy he had just gotten and wanted to showcase him to his friends like a prized possession.
"And you all know that this is my son, Dante," Mr De Rossi said, his grin on his lips with a scar on his face. His father never had that scar, and for the past few months, it left Dante wondering if Eva had given his father that scar right before he...
"Dante, your father is certainly climbing the ladder in the political system. Aren’t you going to follow in his footsteps soon?"
"I won’t," he tried to reply as calmly as possible.
This wasn’t the first time he had been asked this question, and he could already see where it would lead.
"And why’s that? With your father’s influence, I’m sure you can be a governor in the next election without even lifting a finger." It was obvious the man who was talking didn’t get the hint and continued to blab his mouth.
"You don’t have to worry about any of that," Mr. De Rossi said. "When Dante is ready to join politics, he’s going to come to me for help at the end of the day."
The credence in his father’s voice almost made Dante choke on his saliva.
This was his cue to leave and head somewhere else where he wouldn’t be bothered.
"You look like a walking dead person. When was the last time you took proper care of yourself?" He heard a voice ask.
He ignored it as he continued to walk away, but Mylo wasn’t done with him yet.
"You should stop sulking and get a life. There are so many women out there in the world. And some might even have better pussy than hers."
Mylo suddenly felt a hand wrapped around his neck. The speed was so quick he didn’t even see it coming. He was simply caught off guard.
"Never disrespect Eva. She’s still my wife and you should speak of her with respect and nothing but respect." His grip tightened around Mylo’s neck. "Do you understand me?"
Mylo couldn’t breathe, so he had no choice but to shake his head and give a yes.
The commotion between them grabbed the attention of the guests as Dante threw Mylo away.
Dante glanced at the guests, hissing under his breath.
’I guess my work here is done,’ he thought.
Without sharing a goodbye with anyone, he turned to leave the venue.
He could feel his father’s glare boring into his back but didn’t acknowledge it.
He got into his car and drove away.
Dante stopped at a red light on his way back. He didn’t want to return home and just wanted to stay outdoors for a moment.
He searched for some cigarettes and pulled them out before stepping out of the car.
He put the cigarette in his mouth, about to flick the lighter, but he instantly remembered his promise to Eva when they were at the top of the terrace during the Sirena fashion show.
He’d wanted to live longer so he would be her husband for a very long time.
Without thinking, Dante threw the cigarette in a bush, along with the lighter with a huff, ruffling his hair in frustration.
The billboard near the traffic sign suddenly lights up with a new advert.
He gave it a dismissive glance, but when he saw someone familiar appear, his neck snapped towards it, staring at it with the utmost attention.
He saw her. Her hair. Her eyes. Her smile. He recognized them all.
The billboard read; The Comeback Of Eva Montclair!!
