Rise of The Strongest Monarch-Chapter 66: Zeno And Airi
The aura radiating from the two of them is quite intense, something that I don’t think I would want aimed at me. Two light bearers in the same place with some really weird tension.
Airi’s sword disappears as a more frustrating look appears on her face instead.
"Whatever, at least it is taken care of," Airi says with an annoyed tone in her voice.
"I doubt that it is the only problem lurking about in this city," Zeno replies as he begins to walk away.
"Doesn’t that mean you should help with clearing them out?" Airi questions.
"You have Liam and the girl over there, I think you’ll be fine," Zeno answers with a laid back tone.
It feels kind of odd for him to point us out here since we couldn’t handle the goliath on our own. I don’t mind the confidence in us though, that is kind of nice.
Airi definitely doesn’t seem to like zeno either, something else we have in common now.
I just don’t know what my reasons are for it just yet, but something about him really gets to me. Eventually I’ll figure it out... For now I need to help with clearing out the zierel here.
Airi moves out of hearing range with zeno as I look towards amelia.
"We should look for a safe place to make a camp," I suggest.
"Probably the best idea for now," Amelia responds in agreement.
With that we both start to search for a good building to set-up camp in for the time being. Each one is a mess from whatever happened here before the gates were shut.
I don’t mind searching through these places at all, it kind of tells me what to expect with other cities around us.
Eventually we do end up finding a decent enough place to stay.
An old comic book store with shelves thrown all over the place, some old blood stains, and two ways in. In short, it won’t take us a lot of time to secure this store.
"Did you ever read these before?" Amelia asks while holding up one of them.
I take a look at it, knowing I haven’t read a single comic in my life. "My Ultimate Luck System". A guy flipping a coin is on the cover with a nice business suit, but I don’t know a thing about it.
"Definitely haven’t read it before," I answer while giving a shrug.
"I honestly haven’t read any comics before," Amelia says while flipping through the pages.
"Comics have never really been my go to, especially when it comes to reading," I reply while taking a seat.
I take a seat on one of the dusty chairs that are somehow left in tact.
"Then we are kind of on the same page with them," Amelia says before sitting the comic down.
"My friend really enjoys comics but I don’t know if he’s even around anymore," I respond while looking down at my hands.
I don’t know why it took me so long to even think about what could’ve happened to them. Claire, Rokuro... Are they even alive? So much time has gone by since I last heard a single word from them.
"It is possible. We live in quite the world now," Amelia says with some positivity.
"Would you take a risk if you knew your friends might be alive?" I ask with a serious tone.
"Probably not," Amelia answers without hesitation. "I just don’t want to take the chance if there is no guarantee."
"I can understand," I say softly.
Creakkk.
The door opens up, footsteps following along with it. After a moment or two I notice Airi and Zeno walking through the door.
They close the door behind them and leave a small light by it, illuminating the room a bit.
"I’m glad you two found somewhere for us to set-up," Airi speaks up with relief in her voice.
"I didn’t want to take my chances sitting around out there," I respond.
"Rightfully so," Zeno says with a bored expression on his face.
Maybe the two of them talked about some stuff while we were busy finding this place.
It’ll be better if they are working together in the long run anyway since we could all fight against the zierel here. I think it just might be a bit overkill if anything.
"Who cares if it is? You don’t want to show mercy anyway," Celeste speaks with frustration.
I didn’t think that would be something to cause you to speak but I guess you have a point. Overkill won’t matter anyway, they all do deserve to die regardless.
"Exactly. So let’s just focus on killing them," Celeste responds softly.
That is the plan regardless... I just need to let my body recover some strength.
"You really do have a lot to work on," Celeste says.
I’m working on it, it’ll just take me some time before I can finally get to the best possible spot. Awakening the power within this sword will allow me to reach those heights.
"Getting some more speed would also be smart," Celeste suggests.
I figure that will come naturally as I continue to grow; it’ll definitely be something I work on throughout the coming days as well.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
I turn my gaze to the person tapping my right arm, it is Amelia.
"I’m slowly starting to understand, you’ve been pushing me in the right direction," Amelia whispers.
Honestly I don’t really know what she means by that, or maybe I do.
"I just have been putting some faith in you, that’s all," I whisper back.
"You guys don’t have to whisper," Zeno chimes in.
Both of them are sitting across from us now.
Zeno is looking a bit more closely at amelia while Airi has her eyes on me.
I guess the two of them are curious about some stuff but don’t want to ask? That’s what it feels like right now.
But Zeno doesn’t realize that I don’t trust him in the slightest, otherwise I wouldn’t feel the way I do about him. This is another reason for me to do what aether said.
