Rotting Land: Survive-Chapter 441 - 439: Advancing Step by Step (Part 4)
Inside the shop, a dozen different models and types of bows and arrows were neatly displayed on the racks.
From what I could see, aside from the common Compound Bow and Recurve Bow, there were also traditional bows rarely explored by ordinary people.
Hu Xiaodong was quite satisfied with this selection; he had been worried that Wang Zhongyu’s recommended location might be unreliable.
"Brother Hu? With so many bows, which one should we take?"
The bows were quite large, and the space in the Jeep Wrangler was limited, so looking at the variety of bows and arrows, Wang Qiang felt a bit troubled.
Hu Xiaodong didn’t immediately answer the young man’s question; instead, he headed straight towards the welcoming "lady" with his steel blade, saying calmly while wielding the blade, "Let’s deal with these beasts first, and then I’ll explain it to you!"
The four of them split into two groups; for survivors, the six zombies in the shop posed no threat.
They took only a short minute to easily take down the six creatures inside the room.
After flicking away the blood on the blade, Hu Xiaodong casually picked up two bows and arrows, then called Wang Qiang over to explain:
"Well, this one, the longer one, is called the Recurve Bow; and this one, with a cooler appearance, is the Compound Bow. Those over there are traditional straight-pull bows, which don’t hold much significance for us, so we’ll leave them aside for now."
"What’s the difference between these two bows?" Wang Qiang curiously glanced at the two bows in Hu Xiaodong’s hands. He wasn’t unfamiliar with the cool-looking one because the first time he met Hu Xiaodong, the latter had saved his life using that type of bow.
In contrast, it was his first time seeing a Recurve Bow.
Hu Xiaodong raised the bows steadily: "The biggest difference between these two bows is the use of the cam system. You see, the Recurve Bow doesn’t have a cam system; therefore, when using a 60-pound Recurve Bow, you must exert a 60-pound draw force the entire time. However, the Compound Bow is different; aside from the initial pull requiring 60 pounds, the draw weight can be reduced to less than 20% afterwards."
"Additionally, the method of releasing the bowstring differs; the Recurve Bow’s string release is controlled by fingers, which unavoidably causes the bowstring’s speed of retraction to be faster than the fingers’ straightening speed, leading to the bowstring sliding sideways along the fingers and causing the arrow’s rear to sway left and right."
"But the Compound Bow is different; its string release must be done with a release device. The advantage is that it ensures the bowstring always moves in a straight direction, so the arrow barely sways sideways, and thus, its accuracy is naturally higher than the Recurve Bow."
"However, compared to the Compound Bow, with its integration of modern technology, the Recurve Bow’s speed of arrows is faster than the Compound Bow!"
"These are the most straightforward and basic differences between the two bows."
Without the interference of zombies, Hu Xiaodong’s explanation was quite composed.
After hearing the explanation, Wang Qiang nodded, slightly confused, and then plainly gave his answer: "Well~ if I had to choose, I’d go for the Compound Bow. Why? Damn! Just look at that feel; it has a sci-fi vibe!"
While speaking, Wang Qiang reached out to grab a Compound Bow, then posed in a flashy manner: "How do you like that? Have any of you seen the Avengers? Do I have a bit of Hawkeye’s flavor?"
Before Wang Qiang could finish his show-off, Wu Chao walked up wordlessly, took the bow from Wang Qiang, and handed him a Recurve Bow, saying, "Qiangzi! Next time you act cool, get the plot straight; Hawkeye in the Avengers actually used a Recurve hunting bow, not what you’re holding..."
"Hehe~ hehe~" Wang Qiang chuckled awkwardly, scratched his head, and then tightened his grip on the Recurve Bow, resolutely replied, "Then I’ll choose this one."
"Fine! You should honestly take the Compound Bow!" Considering the beginner’s capability, Hu Xiaodong ultimately signaled for each companion to take two Compound Bows.
To ensure the fastest output, he chose two suitable Recurve Bows for himself.
And since they’d driven so far, just taking a few bows was certainly not enough.
Thus, the looting began.
Primarily, the arrows were absolutely necessary, whether they were carbon arrows, aluminum arrows, or fiberglass arrows—grab as many as possible because the number of zombies was overwhelming, and with true consumption, dozens of arrows wouldn’t be nearly enough.
Next, bow accessories.
Undoubtedly, any bow used would inevitably suffer wear and tear, especially in the apocalypse, where survivors used bows to kill enemies.
Therefore, maintenance and upkeep were indispensable. Following Hu Xiaodong’s instructions, such things as the arrow platform, dampeners, peep sights, release, aiming sights, stabilizers, clickers, and so on—anything that looked useful—were all loaded onto the vehicle.
Lastly, protective gear and clothing. Hu Xiaodong instructed the group to take some as well, since protection for the chest and arms would be very useful, even if not for shooting but for real combat.
With the task assigned, the four survivors started looting the shop like ghosts going through a town.
Items were loaded onto the vehicle one by one, and the initially not-so-spacious interior of the car was shrinking visibly.
While busy, Wang Qiang couldn’t help but be drawn to a large advertising curtain in the western corner.
On the curtain were cold and alluring women in tight outfits, lying hidden in a rain-soaked dense forest.
It’s hard to deny the artwork’s beauty after artistic processing.
At least for Wang Qiang, it had an irresistible allure.
He subconsciously reached out.
Unexpectedly, when his fingers touched the curtain’s surface, he sensed a real-like bulge transfer from his sensitive fingertips to his brain.
Wang Qiang’s first reaction was that this thing was too realistic, feeling almost genuine to the touch.
But he quickly realized something and withdrew his hand in alarm.
Unfortunately, despite his instinctive quick reaction, he couldn’t escape "death’s attack."
The surprise attack happened incredibly fast; within just one second, Wang Qiang felt a heaviness on his chest, and the next second, his back was throbbing with pain as if struck by a heavy hammer.
A zombie unexpectedly leaped out from behind the curtain; no one would think such a quiet room could conceal this monster.
But the harsh reality left no time for the survivors to lament, as the monster’s sharp teeth were continuously closing in on Wang Qiang’s neck.
Wang Qiang was in danger!! (To be continued. If you like this work, you’re welcome to visit Qidian (qidian.com) and vote for recommendation tickets, monthly tickets; your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users, please visit m.qidian.com for reading.)
