Seed of Titan-Chapter 107: Meeting the Dean
Drai and the lizard-like man slammed against each other. Their heads clashed and their hands locked. But to Drai’s surprise, he couldn’t easily overpower the man with his strength.
"Kh! Is this all you’ve got!?" the lizard man taunted, mustering all his strength to push back his opponent. Despite his words, he was secretly panicking.
Drai didn’t reply but chose to increase his size by one level, reaching six times his normal size. With this, he was finally able to overpower the lizard man, slamming him onto the ground.
Before the lizard man could realize what had happened for him to lose the confrontation in a flash, Drai had already begun pummeling his face. With each hit, blood spurted from the man’s head. It didn’t take long for the man to twitch uncontrollably before going limp.
Seeing that the opponent had ceased to move, Drai stopped his beating. He immediately deactivated his skill and pulled back from the area.
"Fifty seconds..." Drai remarked after checking his cooldown. He zigzagged across the battleground, hoping to reach safety and hide until he could use his skill again.
Unfortunately, the last robed man from the group he had just attacked was closing in fast. Looking at his bloody hands, it was likely that he had already defeated his previous opponent.
Jets of steam sprayed out from the man’s legs, propelling him forward until he was right on top of Drai.
Drai twisted his body, attempting to defend, but the man was faster than him. He shot out steam from his right arm, which immediately thrust onto Drai, knocking him down.
Drai tried to get up, but the man’s feet stomped on his head, smashing his face into the ground.
"Tsk. Not only did we lose contact with Trojan horse, we also have to face this bunch who came out of nowhere," the man remarked as he stood on Drai’s body, pinning him to the floor.
He surveyed the battlefield, looking at the ongoing battles and the dozens of unmoving bodies scattered all over the area.
"Shit... How are we gonna complete the mission after wasting our manpower? And what the fuck happened here? I thought the area was already secured a while ago."
Meanwhile, Drai was pushing hard against the ground, trying to free himself. But the man pinning him wasn’t budging.
’Why is he so heavy?!’ Drai frustratingly questioned. Judging by the opponent’s stature, Drai felt that it shouldn’t have been too hard for him to break free. Yet, the man’s feet were somehow pressing down with immense force.
The robed man glanced at the writhing young man beneath his feet. He snickered and said, "I don’t know what kind of overpowered skill you used to defeat Dahlia and Flake, but since you’re not using it now, it should be a really costly one—maybe coming with a lot of restrictions too."
Drai felt an increasing pressure on his back, making his bones crackle. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
’Come on! Only twenty-five seconds left!’ Drai desperately thought, gritting his teeth in pain.
"I admit you’re quite tough for someone who looks like a student. It’s a shame the recruitment teams didn’t capture you—you could’ve been a fine addition to our forces. Unfortunately, I can’t leave you alive since you’re clearly a risk," the man said. He crouched and raised his arm, ready to break Drai’s neck.
Hearing the man’s words, Drai instantly tightened his muscles, hoping that he could somehow withstand the impending strike and survive long enough for his regeneration to kick in.
However, before the man could deliver his finishing blow, a large spear appeared and flew straight at him.
"Who dares?!" the man roared as he swung his arm to parry the spear. But right at the moment when his arm touched the spear, the spear head transformed into a metal claw that immediately gripped his arm, digging deep into his flesh.
"Argh!" the man cried out in pain. Yet, his suffering wasn’t over, as the spear’s shaft also transformed into a large chain that quickly wrapped around the man, binding him in place.
To the man’s horror, the chain transformed into a barbed metal rope that punctured his whole body. And before he could react, the metal claw released its grip from his arm and transformed into a spiked metal ball that promptly swung at his head.
With a sickening wet sound, the man’s head was crushed into pulp.
Sensing that the pressure on his body was gone, Drai flipped his body and rolled away. He quickly stood up and raised his arms in alert, ready to fight. But to his shock, the robed man was lying there dead with a spiked metal ball lodged into his disfigured head.
Drai examined his surroundings, trying to spot his savior, but he saw that there was nobody nearby. All the others were still busy battling it out in the distance.
Drai scratched his head in confusion. But right as he prepared to leave, the barbed metal rope and spiked ball began to move; it wriggled and released its victim before balancing itself on the ground, standing upright with the ball on its top.
Drai watched in astonishment as the strange weapon rapidly transformed into a somewhat familiar figure.
"I’m glad I wasn’t late, Drai," said the middle-aged man with a plain face and brown hair.
"Dean Herg?!" Drai exclaimed, sounding rather stupefied. He didn’t expect his savior to be Herg Clavar, his faculty dean whom Drai had never personally spoken to.
During his time here, Drai had only spotted the dean a couple times from a distance; and if not for the many upperclassmen who were surrounding the dean during those times, he would probably completely miss the dean since the man really didn’t stand out among the crowd, looking extremely average compared to the other professors.
As Herg was wiping off his victim’s blood from his head and body, Drai couldn’t help but remark, "I didn’t know you’d recognize me."
Hearing Drai’s words, Herg chuckled and said, "How could I not recognize the infamous freshman? The other deans often bombarded me with questions about you every time we met, and it became even worse after your return from Mount Zelen."
As he walked to Drai, Herg continued, "It’s good that our faculty has such a strong freshman. But honestly, I don’t really enjoy the constant inquiries, so there’s a small part of me that wishes you had applied to the Combat Faculty instead. Dean Toufan would have definitely welcomed such a troublemaker with open arms."
Drai scratched his head awkwardly, not expecting the dean to be implicated by his notoriety.
Seeing Drai’s reaction, Herg chuckled once more.
"I know it’s not your fault, so don’t worry about it. Anyway, how did you end up here? And do you know what’s the situation outside?"
Drai proceeded to explain the matter to Herg, trying his best to keep his story concise. He also told him about Tamara along with his own guess that the professors had been kept asleep prior to her death.
After listening to Drai’s story, Herg scratched his chin, looking concerned. After a brief contemplation, he looked at Drai and said, "Leave this place and head straight to the rector’s residence. And bring Vice Rector Ravismus with you."
Herg’s instructions left Drai surprised. He glanced at the ongoing battles and asked, "What about the professors? Shouldn’t I help them first?"
Herg shook his head and replied, "Although many of us can’t fight with the spell-restriction in place, there’s still plenty of professors from the Body Transformation Faculty and Combat Faculty who can fight well. We’ll manage without you, Drai."
Gazing at the distance, Herg explained, "Based on your insight regarding the goals of these intruders, the most important thing for you to do now is to warn Rector Zar and perhaps take him to safety. He’s most likely vulnerable without his spells, and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t employ any guards. Professor Ravi is also a close friend of Rector Zar and often visits his residence, so he’ll be able to bring you in and convince the rector in case he doubts your words."
Drai felt rather reluctant but still nodded. He actually thought he could unleash his maximum strength in order to save the professors in a short time, but he would find it difficult to land his attacks when his targets were surrounded by his allies in a close proximity. And if the enemies decided to scatter and hide instead, it would also take some time to locate and finish them all.
"Now go. I’ll make these people regret brazenly attacking our academy," Herg said as he prepared to leave.
Hesitating slightly, Drai mustered his courage and eventually said, "One more thing, Dean Herg. Regarding Professor Samara... she was killed by Professor Paul, who turned out to be part of this Order."
Upon hearing this, Herg’s face turned cold. He nodded slightly without a word and immediately dashed ahead, leaving Drai by himself.
Drai watched the dean rush toward the closest enemy, transforming into dozens of blades that chopped up the robed woman into small pieces within seconds.
Drai sighed and shook his head to compose himself before making his way toward Ravi, who was still in hiding.
