Seed of Titan-Chapter 109: Drai’s Sneak Attack
Ravi sighed and crouched beside Lua, inspecting her injuries.
"It seems that this attack has been in the works for a long time. Paul was one of their men, and he seemed to hold a commanding position too, considering his demeanor. And based on his code name, Trojan Horse, I believe he was purposefully sent here as a mole," Ravi surmised.
"Paul? That large guy from the Body Transformation Faculty?" Zar asked.
"Yeah. He killed Samara. And poor Jack died too..." Ravi said somberly.
Zar was surprised but quickly suppressed his feelings, glancing at his friend with pity. He knew how much Ravi valued Jack, both as a helper and a companion.
Zar wasn’t a stranger to deaths and schemes, so he could easily isolate his emotions, but Ravi was different. The eccentric man had mostly spent his life in his laboratory, only occasionally leaving his den to fulfill his academic duties or procure research materials and funds. As a result, he rarely faced life-or-death situations, making him vulnerable in situations like this.
"I’m sorry, Ravi," Zar said quietly. "When this is all over, we’ll give Jack a proper burial. And for your information, that son of a bitch Wilfred betrayed us. He’s not an original member like Paul since he only joined these guys after being tempted by the black pill. I don’t know if you’ve heard of it, but it’s similar to your miracle concoction, the difference being that it’s only temporary and has varying effects."
Upon hearing this, Ravi raised an eyebrow. "No, I’ve never heard of this ’black pill’, but now I see why they’re looking to kidnap me. And I always thought that sleazy, gray-hair bastard was sketchy. Oh, by the way, you mentioned something about the ’Crimson Order’ earlier. Is that the name of the group attacking us?"
Zar nodded and replied, "They didn’t exactly mention it, but I know how they operate and what kind of grudge they hold toward me."
Ravi’s expression darkened. He grimly asked, "So, is this raid one of the storms that you mentioned before at your place?"
"Yeah," Zar replied. He then paused briefly before continuing, saying, "I didn’t know that they would hit the academy, but what I know for sure is that this is only the beginning. Soon, a lot of factions and groups will get embroiled in the chaos. So you better prepare yourself for more losses, Ravi—or you can go into hiding for a couple of decades if you’d rather not get involved."
Ravi pursed his lips ruefully and said, "It’s too late, Zar. They took away Jack from me. How could I hide like a coward? Not to mention, Drai is also their target."
Upon hearing Drai’s name, Zar suddenly stood up.
"Shit! I need to see the boy!" he exclaimed, slightly panicking.
"Wait, you know you’re now just a frail grandpa, right? You won’t be able to help Drai," Ravi remarked, feeling quite perplexed by Zar’s sudden change in demeanor.
"I know! But I really need to talk to him!" Zar replied, ignoring Ravi’s blunt comment that would usually offend him a bit. He then jogged ahead and shouted, "You stay there with Lua! I’m going after the boy!"
Ravi watched in a daze as Zar’s small figure disappeared into the darkness, wondering what business the old man had with Drai.
At the same time, Drai was still pursuing Theia, albeit in his normal form. He had found it difficult tracking the woman with his towering height since she was clever enough to use the nearby buildings and trees to her advantage.
Unless Drai decided to flatten the surrounding area, he was likely better off chasing her normally while conserving his skill duration. His biggest drawback, however, was his lack of speed. Therefore, Drai tried to compensate for his slowness by sneaking, aiming to catch the woman off guard.
Drai’s efforts weren’t in vain, as Theia’s silhouette far ahead of him seemed to slow down, perhaps realizing that Drai’s giant figure was no longer pursuing her. Drai followed her for another few minutes until she finally stopped beside a tall building.
Theia warily inspected her surroundings before hiding herself behind a nearby bench, sitting on the grass. As she was steadying her breathing, she pulled out a small device and entered a series of inputs.
Meanwhile, Drai was watching her from a distance. He was hesitant to make a move, fearing that Theia would somehow get away again. After all, her reaction to Drai’s sudden attack back at Zar’s mansion was really quick.
’How should I do this...’ Drai pondered. Taking a glance at his surroundings, he suddenly had an idea.
Drai carefully made his way toward the building’s front entrance. He then proceeded to break the front lock by forcefully opening the door, making sure to do it silently. Soon, he was running up the stairs, heading toward the highest floor.
After reaching the top floor, Drai hurriedly ran down the hallway. He quickly entered one of the rooms there, which turned out to be a relatively small classroom like the ones commonly used by his upperclassmen.
Drai showed a relieved expression upon seeing that there were windows. He immediately headed to the glass windows and opened them slightly, peeking outside.
"Damn. I’m on the wrong side," he remarked after seeing the scenery below. He then turned around and entered the room opposite to this, which was another classroom, similar to the previous one.
Looking down from the windows, Drai finally spotted Theia’s tiny figure. She was still sitting at the same spot behind the bench.
’This is a bit too far. I need to get closer,’ Drai thought as he rushed out and crossed the floor’s lobby. He then entered a room at the center of the opposite hallway.
Expecting another classroom, Drai was briefly stunned to find an office instead. But he quickly recovered and approached one of the windows there.
’Yeah, this is a good spot,’ Drai thought upon seeing that he was almost directly above Theia.
While he was looking at Theia, Drai noticed that the woman’s head was constantly turning around, seemingly keeping a close eye on her surroundings.
’Looks like my judgment is correct. There’s a high chance she won’t be expecting me to attack her from above,’ Drai remarked, feeling confident about his sneak attack.
Finally, Drai fully opened the window. The chilly night breeze instantly filled the room.
Taking a deep breath, Drai cracked his knuckles and prepared to jump out. He leaned over the opening with one foot on the window sill.
But just as Drai was about to leap, he froze. Another figure had just emerged from the darkness, moving slowly toward Theia.
