Seed of Titan-Chapter 124: Getting Thrashed
Amidst his essence-collecting, last night’s events resurfaced in Drai’s mind.
"I wonder if the Crimson guys have left the academy. The capital guards must have noticed the crimson dome by this morning if they haven’t already last night—that’s if the dome hasn’t disappeared yet.
"Nat and the others... are they still in the academy or did they vacate home? I’m sure the whole academy is in chaos after the attack, with professors getting hurt and dying, and all the destroyed buildings too.
"Thinking about it, I should really get them the Siprootberry so they can get this overpowered skill. But can they even get it? What if I only got Bio Drain because my restrictions have been removed? And can any of them even finish a whole fruit? It’s a big-ass fruit for sure. I only managed to eat it in one sitting because I was still augmented at that time.
"But then they’ll need to get here too if they want to assimilate its essence, but I don’t even know where the hell this is. Hmm... Maybe there are other suitable areas near the academy, so they might not have to come here. I wonder if different essences have different requirements...
"Anyway, how much essence will I end up with? I could really use another level up—these apes are pretty troublesome. I wonder if I’ll get an electricity skill too when I assimilate their essence. But it’s not like I have mana to use such a skill. Well, maybe the System will adjust it to suit me, just like Bio Drain."
At this moment, rustling leaves and breaking branches sounded once more from afar. But Drai wasn’t too worried this time—Colossal Augmentation was ready, and his body had fully healed, raring to duke it out again.
While Drai was waiting for the next group of apes to arrive, he noticed something.
"The sounds... why are they way quieter than the group before? Does this new alpha have a much smaller group? I thought the guy would have more troops since he seemed bigger than this dead alpha."
Hearing that the commotion was close, Drai immediately enlarged into his maximum size. With all the essence he had been collecting, Drai wasn’t too concerned about preserving his skill duration.
The noise soon reached its peak, and finally, a group of apes emerged from the jungle.
Drai had been nonchalant about this encounter, but upon seeing the newcomers, Drai’s demeanor shifted 180 degrees, and he became completely shocked.
Standing across the clearing were more than a dozen massive white apes, their eyes locked onto Drai.
"No way... They’re all alphas?! Are these alpha apes as common as peanuts?" Drai remarked as he inspected the menacing apes, a bead of sweat rolling down his face.
Most of these alphas were wielding a variety of crude weapons like the white ape before, but these weapons weren’t all black. An ape was holding a gray hammer-like weapon with a red hue, and there was also another ape that had thick vines all over its body, which were connected to a huge piece of wood that was dangling from the wielder’s hand.
Realizing that he might also need a weapon, Drai inched slowly to the black staff on the ground nearby. To his relief, the apes didn’t seem to care about his actions. They were still staring quietly at him along the riverbank.
Drai picked up the staff and gripped it tightly at his side, ready to reenact his earlier pummeling once more. However, ten seconds passed without the alphas making a move.
’What are they waiting for? Don’t tell me they’re only here to watch me fiddle with these corpses...’ Drai thought in confusion.
But Drai didn’t have to wait long to receive his answer, because at this moment, the air around them suddenly changed.
Drai winced from the suppressing aura, but it wasn’t only him that was affected, as the rows of alphas were also grimacing, and a few of them were even visibly quivering.
Then it appeared.
An ape with golden fur shot into the clearing, seemingly out of nowhere. It landed on a large rock and stood there imposingly, staring at the human before it.
The golden ape wasn’t actually the biggest of the bunch, and its body was also quite leaner compared to the others. But based on the alphas’ reactions, it was obvious that the golden ape was the undisputed ruler here—the apex alpha. And as if that wasn’t clear enough, the golden ape also sported a metallic head piece which resembled a crude circlet.
Staring back at the golden ape, Drai had a feeling that he would be in for a bad time.
Suddenly, the apex alpha pointed at Drai.
"AMAG."
Drai raised a brow. He could somehow make out a word from the ape’s heavy growl. Still, he didn’t have an idea what it meant or if it was even an ape language in the first place.
However, Drai feared that the golden ape had just commanded its troops to begin their assault, so he started swinging his staff, ready to defend himself once again.
But what followed was much worse.
The golden ape vanished from its spot, blasting apart the rock it had been standing on. And in a flash, its fist reached Drai.
Drai instinctively raised his staff when he saw the ape disappear, but it didn’t seem to matter much, as he was still sent flying from the punch. The black staff he held was also smashed into smithereens.
The white apes roared and howled as Drai’s body dropped to the lower area of the waterfall. He slammed to the ground, kicking up buckets of mud and stones as his body skidded along the riverside.
Drai quickly propped himself up but staggered in pain. Looking down at his chest, he saw a large red bruise.
The golden ape was standing on the waterfall’s precipice, gazing at Drai. It then leaped forward, vanishing once more with a blast.
Drai felt a shiver. He hastily raised his arms to defend.
A split second later, the apex alpha struck, pounding Drai with both hands.
BOOM!!!
Drai was slammed even deeper into the ground, creating a large basin that rapidly filled with water.
While Drai frantically squirmed away, the golden ape halted its assault and observed its struggling prey with intrigue. Meanwhile, the rest of the apes were watching this scene from the edge of the waterfall. Their racket became louder upon seeing the battered enemy.
After getting out of the basin, Drai tried to stand up, but his arms immediately buckled under his weight, causing him to slam face-first into the mud.
Drai rolled and twisted until he managed to crouch. But when he saw his arms, his expression sank.
His bruised forearms were twisting at unnatural angles—unmistakably broken.
