"She was a spirit, a Librarian of the Holy Library, all alone for gods know how long," I said with sad eyes. "And then she met him... I met Nicklaus" I corrected, a smile on my lips "And I became curious and drawn to him, I became attached..."

The image vanished in dust, and another scene showed, this time we were outside, and Nicklaus stood watching the Sakura trees, hands behind his back.

And then I saw the She-Fox but in her Fox form, as she jumped next to him, on seeing her, Nicklaus squats, brushing his hand on her fur and she purred in delight.

"Why are you always following me?!" he asked in the question. "You shouldn’t get attached to me young one" he retreated his hands and then walked away leaving the sad She-Fox.

"...But we’re worlds apart just like Basker said. I’m the Fox Librarian and my spirit was anchored to it, he was the scholar who sorted knowledge and had a purpose to fulfill..." I narrated as I watched Nicklaus disappear from view, as he walked further and further away and my past self watching as he did was heartbreaking. That was the day he left the Holy Library.

"We could never be together"

Sobbing sounds could be heard, as well as little muffled cries.

"Sweet Yelena," Basker said to my younger self. Nicklaus has left the library and it was like a hole was plunged into her heart, she was heartbroken and sad. All alone once again when she finally found someone to be with.

"You knew this was coming... I told you not to get too attached, he was bound to leave the very moment he came here"

"I-I know... but it hurts so much that I can’t take it... right here", she pointed her finger to her chest.

My eyes went teary because I could feel it... her pain, the loneliness, and the longing, she felt for him.

"Why didn’t you show your true self to him?" Basker asked.

She sniffled, wiping the tears away. "Because," she said, her eyes on the fireplace. "He has a goal he wants to fulfill, I don’t want to be the one to hold him back," she shook her head. "Revealing my true self would have only made things worse"

"But you’re the one hurting right now... even if it’s just a little, that fragment of affections he would have shown you, you would have held onto it, to fill the hole in your heart," Basker said.

She shook her head. "No Basker... watching him grow in knowledge, watching him practice, was everything" she faced him, tears still circling her eyes. There was a prolonged silence between the two but I could tell Basker felt her pain.

"We have been together for a long time..." he began. "But this is the first time I have seen your pain. There is a way to see him again"

Her eyes slowly widened. "There is?"

"Yes, Rebirth"

"Rebirth?"

"Yes but it comes with a very high price. With Rebirth you get to be a magical creature belonging to their dimension, get to be reborn in their world, but the price you will pay..." he paused for a minute. "Your spirit connected to the Library will be broken and your fate will be in pieces, shattered with no fragments of any ending, you shall experience many misfortunes"

"Why are you telling me this Basker?"

"Because..."

Suddenly the image trembled, I couldn’t hear anything. "What happened, why can’t we hear them?"

"I don’t know, something must be wrong," Diablo said.

The trembling stopped.

"I see," my younger self said.

What did Basker tell her, why can’t I hear it, why was it blocked.

"I will do it... as long as I get to be with him again"

"You may not remember him... you may not know him, you might not even be with him when you get there... like I said your fate will be shattered"

"You’re wrong!" she smiled. "I love him... and that enough, I believe the power of love will make me be with him, in this world onto the next, I do not care if my fate gets shattered... I do not care if I get cursed, I do not care if people don’t want us to be together, I believe nothing will ever come between us, even now"

My eyes trembled at her words, they were bold, certain, strong, and powerful. Was that really me? Was I this powerful and strong to go on a helpless journey that I might not make it to him? And yet... my eyes trembled, I let a mere curse of Mismatch separate I and Nicklaus, how far have I fallen?

The image vanished.

"Seems like you made a choice that very moment and partakes in Rebirth, your soul was anchored to our world," Diablo said.

And then an image appeared, sounds of a baby crying could be heard and then I turned and found the Mother goddess with a baby in her arms, the most beautiful smile gracing her lips and I could hardly believe she was the same woman that tormented me all my life.

"You were reborn as a goddess losing all connections to the library, you were born as a special goddess... able to take the form of a Fox," Diablo said.

"My Fox powers must have remained with me," I said.

"Due to your special qualities and how much your mother loves you, she created the Spirit Forest filling it with magical creatures and you as their Guardian"

The image changed, Mother goddess on her throne and me seated below it, my head on her lap as she patted my head lovingly. I couldn’t believe my eyes.

"Your Mother loved you more than anything, she cherished you like the sun itself and both of you were inseparable"

"Tell me child for you shall be the Mother goddess one-day" mother said.

I made a pouting face. "I love the spirit Forest mother... I’m more of a spirit guide than ruling"

"Oh Yelena"

"Your beloved apprentice is well suited for it"

"Yelena you’re my daughter and all those rights belong to you!"

And then I ran away while gigging.

"gods Yelena come back here!"

"I never wanted to rule because I never considered it," I said, watching the memory. "I loved the Forest like my Realm, I considered myself not cut out for it".

"Your Mother knew you were like that... but was patient with you"

The Image changed to an all familiar scene

The beautiful scenery that captivated me, the same magical forest that was so wonderful, and I walked the place as if I owned it. I was the guardian of the Spirit Forest, my very own Realm.

Her silver hair straight fell to her waist, some packed in a golden pin, golden armlet on both my arms, shaped in a butterfly. The same with the ankle chains too, her light pink dress barely covered her smooth milky skin, like a silk line fabric against her body, swirling around her with other layers.

She sauntered the path of the forest, a smile on her lips, the skies a bright blue color and colorful birds gracing it, the butterflies clustered around her like I was their light.

"Lady Yelena" a tiny voice echoed. She turned to see a rabbit, a lion, and a small fox. The rabbit was snow-white, the same as the Lion, the most beautiful they were and the fox had red fur.

"What is it, little ones?" She asked in amusement.

"Um" Ava began trembling before hopping to her, she held her in a warm embrace.

"gods you’re shivering like a cat"

"Ahem!" a brown cat against the tree cleared its throat, his tail swinging back and forth.

I giggled. "Sorry"

"Meow" he just made his animal sound before climbing further on the tree.

"He’s always grumpy," The Puma said, sighing.

"Tell me Puma, what’s making Ava here scared?"

"Well..." he began a bit hesitantly. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

"Ugh... if you guys are not gonna tell the lady I’m gonna speak" Gideon said, stepping forward, lowering his butt to sit.

"No Gideon!" Ava panicked.

"I will tell mother three of you are misbehaving again... back to the Mortal Realm to live as real animals will teach you," I said smirking, although She was just joking, and loved these animals like her own, in charge of their well being.

"There’s an intruder in the Forest!" Ava announced drawing her ears to cover her eyes.

"AVA!"

"WHAT?" She shouted, the small crescent moon tattoo engraved on my forehead beaming bright gold at her outburst.

"Over there where the birds are gathered" she pointed her paws, her pink eyes in fear. Her confused gaze followed, the birds were clustering in a particular area, I could see them with my fox eyes, but I couldn’t see properly like something was blocking me.

"I think it’s a monster!"

This was it... this was the memory I was waiting for, the memory of me and Nicklaus, it was time to know what really happened 2 thousand years ago.

"From this point on you shall relive this past alone," Diablo said before vanishing.
