Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 109: The Reason for Hiding the Child
Ethan Yardley was busy at the office.
He hadn’t dealt with his own problems yet, so he was in no mood to worry about anyone else. But Serena was frantic, and he couldn’t refuse her.
Finally, he agreed:
"Alright, I’ll send people to help you look for her right away. Don’t worry, Serena. Nina Thorne will be fine."
"Okay. Call me the moment you find her, alright?"
Ethan agreed. After hanging up, just as he was about to call Quinn Gardner, Yannick Young pushed the door open and came in.
He bowed his head and reported, "President, everything is ready. Are we to forcibly deport Miss Schuyler?"
Ethan Yardley’s expression darkened.
’The thought of Sylvia Schuyler’s presence affecting his relationship with Serena left him with no choice but to get rid of her.’
’Didn’t the Schuyler Family immigrate years ago?’
’Then she could just stay abroad forever.’
"Deport her by force. And give orders that she isn’t to set foot back in the country for the next two years."
’It wasn’t that he, Ethan Yardley, was heartless; she had simply pushed her luck too far.’
’How dare she threaten him? Did she really think that just because he’d hurt her once, she could now wrap him around her little finger?’
’No one in this world dared to control his actions.’
Yannick Young replied, "Yes."
After he turned and left, Ethan dialed Quinn Gardner’s number.
When the call connected, he asked:
"Quinn, I heard you’ve hidden the child and won’t let Nina Thorne see him?"
On the other end, Quinn Gardner sounded displeased. "Ethan, this is my business."
"Your business? So I’m sticking my nose where it doesn’t belong, is that it?" Ethan’s voice grew cold.
Quinn was quiet for a moment before saying in a heavy voice, "Soon. We’ll bring the child back to her in a few days."
"Quinn Gardner, tell me, why won’t you let her see the child right now?"
Quinn Gardner remained silent.
Ethan guessed, "You’re planning to use her son to save your daughter behind Nina Thorne’s back, aren’t you?"
"..."
The other man was silent.
Ethan knew that was it. A sudden burst of anger flared up.
"I know this is the Grant Family’s business and I shouldn’t interfere, but Quinn Gardner, what you’re doing is going too far. Even if you have to save that daughter of yours, you need to get Nina Thorne’s and the boy’s consent first.
"Forcing this on her behind her back... can you imagine her despair when she finds out? Especially since she still doesn’t even know you have a daughter with another woman.
"Quinn Gardner, don’t say I didn’t warn you. Nina Thorne is missing right now. If anything happens to her, the Thorne Family will not let the Grant Family off the hook."
Quinn Gardner’s composure finally broke, his voice choked with emotion.
"I just want to save Clementine. She’s so young, and we couldn’t find a bone marrow match anywhere.
"But then, by some miracle, it turned out her older brother is a perfect match.
"Ethan, if Leo just has the transplant, both children can live. As long as the kids are okay, I swear I’ll make it up to him and his mother afterward."
Ethan only grew more furious. "Then at least tell Nina Thorne the truth! You’ve hidden her son from her; can you imagine how frantic she must be?"
"But she’ll never agree if I tell her the truth. I know her temper. She won’t be able to accept Clementine."
Ethan was left speechless.
’He really felt like Quinn Gardner was digging his own grave.’
He hung up, annoyed, and sent a few men to find Nina Thorne.
...
By the afternoon, Serena still couldn’t get in touch with Nina, and she was growing more and more frantic.
Ethan arrived at the school gate right on time to pick her up.
As soon as she got in the car, Serena asked anxiously, "Did you find Nina?"
Ethan shook his head. "Not yet."
"Then what are we going to do? Any later and it’ll be too late."
Finding her reaction odd, Ethan asked, "Serena, is there something you know?"
Serena quickly pulled out her phone and showed him what she had recorded.
Ethan took it and watched. He immediately understood: it was about Quinn Gardner arranging the bone marrow transplant for the two children behind Nina Thorne’s back.
He handed the phone back to her and ordered the driver, "To the hospital."
’If they couldn’t find Nina Thorne, they could at least go to the hospital and see what was going on.’
But just then, Ethan’s phone rang.
It was one of his men.
The man reported, "President, we’ve found Miss Thorne. She’s kneeling at the entrance of the Grant family’s old residence."
Ethan’s expression changed. He redirected the driver, "To the Grant family’s old residence."
Serena pressed, "Did they find Nina?"
"Yes. She’s at the Grant family’s old residence."
"That’s great! Let’s hurry over and tell her. Her son might be at the hospital."
Ethan knew the woman beside him was outraged on Nina Thorne’s behalf.
But if Nina Thorne found out what Quinn Gardner was doing, she would definitely try to stop them.
And if that happened, the surgery couldn’t proceed.
Ultimately, the little girl, Clementine, would likely not survive.
An hour later, Ethan’s car pulled to a stop a short distance from the Grant family’s old residence.
The moment she stepped out of the car, Serena saw Nina Thorne’s desolate figure kneeling at the Grant family’s gate. Her body swayed, looking as if she might collapse at any second.
Serena’s heart ached for her. She rushed forward to help her up. "Nina, why are you kneeling here?"
Nina Thorne’s eyes were red and swollen from crying. She hadn’t slept in days and looked utterly haggard.
Turning to look at Serena, her voice came out low and hoarse.
"I’m begging them... begging them to give me back my Leo."
The servants at the residence said her parents-in-law took Leo on a trip, but she didn’t believe them.
’She had a feeling the family was deliberately keeping her from her son.’
’They were definitely plotting something.’
’If the Grant Family wouldn’t give her back her son, she would kneel here until she died.’
"Nina, stop kneeling. I think I know where your son is. Get up and come with me, quickly."
Serena’s own eyes reddened as she hastily tried to pull Nina to her feet.
Nina looked at her, surprised. "What did you say? You know where Leo is?"
Serena nodded. "I’m not certain, but I have a strong feeling he’s there. You’ll know if you come with me now."
"Really? Serena, you’re not lying to me, are you? That man didn’t send you here to talk me out of this, did he?"
Nina Thorne was at her wit’s end. She never would have resorted to kneeling at the Grant family’s home if she hadn’t been so desperate to see her son.
Serena pulled her to her feet. "Come on, Nina. I wouldn’t lie to you."
"Okay, I’ll go with you."
Desperate to see her son, Nina scrambled to her feet without a second thought.
But she had been kneeling for hours. Her knees were numb, and she could barely stand.
Serena looked over at Ethan, who was standing a short distance away. "Come over and carry her to the car."
Only then did Ethan step forward and carry Nina Thorne into the car.
Once in the car, Nina Thorne looked at Ethan and asked again, "Do you two really know where my son is?"
’She still didn’t quite believe them.’
’After all, Ethan and Quinn Gardner were best friends.’
’Quinn Gardner wouldn’t tell her the truth, so why would Ethan meddle in his affairs?’
"Just massage your knees for now," Ethan said. "We’ll talk after you’ve seen your son at the hospital."
Ethan didn’t know how to explain the situation.
The mention of "hospital" immediately set Nina on edge. "The hospital? Why the hospital? What’s wrong with my Leo?"
"Nina, please don’t get upset," Serena quickly interjected. "We only have a rough idea that your son is at the hospital. We’re not sure about the specifics. Let’s just go and see what’s happening, okay?"
