Uncle...
’Isn’t that what Serena calls Ethan?’
Julian Thorne stared, stunned, at the woman clinging to him.
’She’s lost her memory, but she still remembers Ethan subconsciously.’
’So Ethan must be very important to her.’
Ethan hadn’t expected Serena to call out to him by habit.
He raised a hand to touch her and spoke tentatively, "Serena, I’m right here."
But Serena wouldn’t listen, clinging tightly to Julian Thorne without letting go.
Seeing how agitated she was, Julian Thorne looked at Ethan. "You should go. She doesn’t even recognize you right now."
But how could Ethan possibly leave?
’Serena called out to me. That proves she still remembers me.’
’She just needs some time to adjust.’
Ethan continued in a soft, gentle voice, "Serena, look at me. I’m Ethan."
Serena refused to look at him, clinging to Julian Thorne. "Make him leave. I don’t want to talk to him."
"Okay, I’ll make him go. Don’t be scared, Serena."
Julian Thorne shot Ethan another cold glance and said impatiently, "You see the state she’s in. Can you please stop provoking her? Just leave already."
Quinn Gardner added, "Ethan, let’s go for now. We can ask the doctor what’s going on with her, and then we’ll figure out a plan."
Ethan was speechless.
It was agonizing for him to watch Serena throw herself into another man’s arms.
’She called out my name, so why doesn’t she recognize me?’
"Let’s go, Ethan."
Quinn Gardner had to drag him away.
With no other choice, Ethan went straight to see the doctor after leaving.
The doctor described Serena’s condition and repeatedly warned them not to agitate her again.
Once he understood, Ethan returned to stand at the door to her hospital room, but he didn’t dare go back inside.
He was afraid his very appearance would frighten her again.
「Inside the hospital room.」
Julian Thorne gently eased the girl out of his embrace and studied her. "Serena, do you remember Ethan?"
Serena looked back at Julian, her large eyes blinking, and nodded.
’The name Ethan feels so familiar.’
’But I can’t remember what he looks like.’
Julian Thorne was surprised. "Then do you remember me?"
Serena nodded again.
Stunned, Julian sat down quickly, took her hand, and pressed, "Who am I? What’s my name?"
"Aren’t you Uncle?"
’I remember Uncle saved me. He was so good to me.’
’It’s just... I can’t remember what Uncle looks like. I try to think, but my head hurts so, so much.’
’Could it be that this handsome man in front of me, who’s been so kind, isn’t Uncle?’ 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Julian Thorne was speechless.
’So she subconsciously remembers Ethan, but has no idea what he looks like?’
’Has she mistaken me for Ethan?’
"Uncle, when can I go home? I don’t want to be here. I want to go home."
Serena murmured.
’I don’t like it here at all. I’m a little scared.’
’I want to go to that place that feels warm and safe.’
"You need to stay in the hospital for a few more days of observation. If there are no major issues, we’ll go back."
"Okay."
Serena replied obediently.
When Julian Thorne came out of the hospital room, he was surprised to find Ethan and Quinn still at the door.
He walked over to join them and sat down, his head bowed and his expression grim.
As Ethan stood to enter the room again, Julian stopped him. "Don’t go in. Even though she used your title, she doesn’t remember what you look like.
It seems she’s mistaken me for you."
Ethan froze and turned back to look at Julian.
Julian continued, "Her condition isn’t actually that bad. I think as long as she isn’t agitated again, she should recover quickly."
The doctor had told him before that when a patient remembers certain things but not others, it’s considered selective amnesia.
It means she only wants to remember the good things.
As for the people and events that caused her pain and sorrow, she can’t remember them at all.
Ethan didn’t listen; he pushed the door open and entered the room anyway.
Julian wanted to stop him.
But when he remembered they were husband and wife, he thought better of it.
Ethan once again stood before Serena’s bed, watching her quietly.
Serena was sitting up in bed and staring out the window. Sensing someone had entered, she turned her head to look at him.
’The man before me is incredibly handsome, but I don’t know him.’
’Uncle doesn’t like it when I interact with strangers.’
So Serena ignored him, becoming guarded. She asked rejectingly, "Who... who are you?"
Ethan took a tentative step toward her, his voice low and hoarse. "I’m Ethan. I’m the ’Uncle’ you were calling for."
Serena was stunned.
’He’s Ethan?’
’The Uncle who saved me?’
’Is this what he looked like?’
’Why can’t I remember?’
Serena tried her best to remember.
She tried to recall the words "Uncle" and "Ethan," which were lodged in her subconscious.
But she couldn’t remember anything.
The harder she tried to think, the more her head throbbed.
The splitting pain was unbearable.
She sat there, clutching her head with both hands, and began to struggle in agony.
"It hurts so much. My head hurts so much."
Ethan rushed to her side, pulling her into his embrace. "It’s okay, Serena, don’t be scared. I’m here. Just stop trying to think so much, and it won’t hurt."
"No, you’re not Ethan. Ethan wouldn’t hurt me.
But when you get close to me, my heart aches, and my head hurts so much."
Lifting her head, Serena struggled to push the man away, crying out in panic:
"Don’t come near me! I don’t know you! Uncle, where are you, Uncle...?"
Hearing Serena’s shouts, Julian Thorne rushed in.
He strode forward, yanked Ethan away, and quickly pulled Serena into his arms.
"I’m right here. Serena, what’s wrong?"
"My head hurts so much... I don’t know this man, make him leave! I hate him! When he’s here, my heart hurts... Uncle..."
Huddled in Julian Thorne’s arms, Serena trembled all over, unable to stop the frightened tears.
Protectively holding her, Julian looked at the frozen figure of Ethan and said in a low voice:
"Ethan, you see the state she’s in now. Just give her some time."
Ethan was silent.
’I can’t believe it. The woman who willingly throws herself into another man’s arms, who resists me so fiercely... she doesn’t remember who I am.’
’This is my Serena. How can she call my name but not remember me?’
Ethan couldn’t understand why this was happening.
Quinn Gardner also tried to persuade him from the side. "Ethan, let’s go. Don’t make her condition even worse."
But Ethan still didn’t want to leave.
He just stood there, motionless.
Serena secretly peeked out from Julian’s arms. Seeing that Ethan was still there, she fearfully hid again, whispering:
"Uncle, let’s go home. I want to go home. I don’t want to be here anymore."
"Okay, okay. We’ll go back in a little while."
While coaxing her, Julian looked at Ethan and gestured with his eyes:
"You go back first. I’ll bring her to your place later."
Ethan didn’t want to leave, but seeing Serena’s reaction to him, he knew he had no choice but to go.
He just never expected that the moment he left, Julian Thorne would disappear with Serena.
