Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 73: Who Are You, Let Go of Me
Once he was sure Ethan Yardley had left, Julian Thorne arranged for her discharge from the hospital.
That same night, he left with Serena Yardley, taking her to a place where Ethan Yardley couldn’t find them.
He knew it wasn’t exactly proper, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that Serena Yardley would be in danger if she stayed.
While he wasn’t sure if Ethan Yardley was the source of that danger, he didn’t want her to see him again—not before she had fully recovered, and not before he had figured out why she tried to commit suicide.
However!
Ethan Yardley had only gone home to take a shower and change his clothes.
When he returned to the hospital, he found her room completely empty.
Seeing a nurse making the bed, he rushed over and demanded, "Where is the patient from this room?"
The nurse jumped, startled, and stammered, "Sh-she was discharged. She left this afternoon."
"What did you say? She hasn’t recovered. How could she have been discharged?"
"I don’t know. Her family insisted on it."
Ethan Yardley was furious. He immediately pulled out his phone to call Julian Thorne.
The other man actually picked up.
Ethan Yardley roared into the phone, "Julian Thorne, where the hell did you take her?"
On the other end of the line, Julian Thorne replied calmly,
"Ethan Yardley, I know it was dishonorable of me to take Serena away, but her suicide attempt is too suspicious. I don’t want to leave her by your side where she’s in danger.
Once she’s recovered and I get to the bottom of why she tried to kill herself, I’ll bring her back to you."
"What are you trying to say? You think she’s in danger with me?"
Ethan Yardley wanted to punch someone.
He had just managed to see his Serena again.
And the moment his back was turned, Julian Thorne had taken her away.
’Does he have a death wish?’
"Aren’t you a danger to her? If it weren’t for you, would she have written a suicide note and tried to end her life?"
Julian Thorne retorted.
Ethan Yardley was momentarily speechless.
He knew Serena’s suicide attempt had something to do with him.
’But what business is it of Julian Thorne’s?’
Ethan Yardley exploded. "Where did you take her? Julian Thorne, you listen to me. I am her legal husband.
If you don’t want to die, you’ll either tell me where you are right now or bring her back. Don’t make me come find you myself."
"I’ll say it again: once I uncover the truth, I’ll bring her back. That’s all for now. I’m hanging up. Serena is waiting for me to bring her food."
Utterly unafraid, Julian Thorne hung up.
Ethan Yardley was so furious he almost smashed his phone.
But he calmed himself and called Yannick Young instead.
The moment the call connected, he ordered coldly, "Go find Julian Thorne. I don’t care if you have to tear this city apart, find him."
’The nerve of him, taking my woman.’ a
...
「Alcrest.」
In a VIP room at a private hospital.
Julian Thorne brought a tray of food to Serena Yardley and began to feed her himself.
Serena Yardley trusted him completely, staring at him with a blank expression as she ate.
His gaze made Julian Thorne a little self-conscious. "Is there something on my face?"
Serena Yardley shook her head.
"Then why do you keep staring at me?"
"Because you’re handsome, Uncle." She smiled, her eyes curving into crescents.
Julian Thorne was speechless.
’She still thinks I’m Ethan Yardley.’
He sighed and explained, "Serena, I’m not your ’Uncle.’"
"Hm?"
"I’m Julian Thorne. From now on, you can just call me Julian."
Julian Thorne set down the bowl and utensils, took Serena Yardley’s hand, and gently traced his name onto her palm.
Serena Yardley watched intently, seemingly understanding.
She smiled and nodded. "Okay."
"Serena, can you remember how you got hurt?"
Serena Yardley shook her head.
She couldn’t remember anything, and her head would throb whenever she tried to force it.
But subconsciously, she remembered "Uncle" and Ethan Yardley.
But she didn’t know what either of them looked like.
"If you can’t remember, don’t try to. We’ll take it slow."
Julian Thorne went back to feeding her.
Serena Yardley nodded, her awareness gradually returning to normal.
She asked Julian Thorne, "If you’re not Uncle, then what are you to me?"
Julian Thorne paused, then after a moment’s thought, he replied, "I’m your... best friend."
"Then why didn’t you take me home? Why did we switch hospitals?"
"It isn’t safe for you to go home."
"Why isn’t it safe? I think I remember... I have a home, and someone there who loves me. He’d buy me lots of things I liked. I felt so safe whenever he was around."
Julian Thorne knew exactly who she was talking about.
He countered, "And with me here, don’t you feel safe?"
Serena Yardley smiled and shook her head. "I do feel safe."
"Then that’s all that matters. Just think of me as that loving family member."
Serena Yardley fell silent.
’Can I do that?’
’If I can, then I will.’
"Julian, I’m getting a little sleepy. Can I sleep for a while?"
No longer wanting to eat, Serena Yardley asked with a yawn.
Julian Thorne quickly set the utensils aside and adjusted the bed for her. "Alright. Go to sleep."
"Don’t go. If I wake up and you’re not here, I’ll be scared."
"Okay. I won’t leave."
"Good night, Julian." She smiled, looking up at him with innocent eyes.
’Her eyes are magical,’ Julian Thorne thought, ’they keep pulling me in.’
He replied in a gentle voice, "Good night, Serena."
Only after seeing Serena Yardley fall asleep and hearing the sound of her even breathing did Julian Thorne rise and leave the room.
...
Ethan Yardley went home and waited for a full day and night, but there was still no news from Yannick Young.
He grew increasingly agitated, convinced that Julian Thorne was up to no good.
But since his men couldn’t find Julian Thorne, all he could do was worry.
Three days later, Ethan Yardley was in his CEO office at the Serene Empire Tower, working through a mountain of documents, when Yannick Young hurried in.
"Sir, we have news."
Yannick Young held a tablet in front of Ethan Yardley, pointing to an inconspicuous private hospital in Alcrest.
"They’re here. We didn’t approach, for fear of tipping them off. I came to report to you at once."
Seeing that the hospital wasn’t far, Ethan Yardley immediately stood, grabbed his jacket, and headed out.
When he arrived at the hospital, as fate would have it, he spotted Julian Thorne supporting Serena as they strolled through the garden.
"Julian, look! The kite in the sky is so beautiful."
Serena Yardley tilted her head back, her smile as bright as a blooming flower.
Ever since losing her memories, she had begun to smile much more.
She seemed to feel that every corner of the world was a beautiful place.
And the people around her were beautiful, too.
Julian Thorne glanced at the kite and smiled. "If you want to fly one, I can get you one later."
"No, that’s for little kids."
Serena Yardley took Julian Thorne’s hand and led him toward a nearby fishpond.
"Julian, look! There are so many fish. Do you know what’s special about them?"
Julian Thorne shook his head.
Serena Yardley smiled again. "They’re called koi. They’re supposed to bring good luck."
Julian Thorne was speechless.
’Serena seems to be recovering so quickly.’
’It’s not like the doctor said, that her mind would only clear up once her memories returned.’
’Except for not remembering her past, she seems completely normal now.’
As he looked at the woman beside him, Julian Thorne was about to speak, but then he caught sight of a figure in the distance. It was Ethan Yardley, his face contorted with rage and his entire being radiating a murderous aura.
’Damn it. He found us already.’
Hurriedly taking Serena Yardley’s arm, Julian Thorne said, "Serena, we have to go."
"Hm?"
Before Serena Yardley could process why they were leaving, Ethan Yardley had already rushed over and grabbed her hand.
The instant Serena Yardley saw Ethan Yardley, she was overcome with panic and fear.
She tried to wrench her hand away, shouting at Ethan Yardley, "Who are you? Let go of me!"
Ethan Yardley shot a venomous glare at Julian Thorne before turning back to Serena Yardley. "You’re coming home with me."
"I don’t know you! Let me go!"
Serena Yardley struggled, vehemently resisting Ethan Yardley’s touch.
But Ethan Yardley was enraged. He refused to release her hand and instead swept her up into his arms.
Terrified at being lifted off the ground, Serena Yardley opened her mouth and bit down hard on Ethan Yardley’s arm.
