Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 74: Might Not Make It Through Tonight
Despite the pain shooting up his arm, Ethan Yardley was unmoved, determined to leave with the woman in his arms.
Julian Thorne tried to step forward and stop him, but Mr. Young blocked his path.
When Serena saw that the man holding her still wouldn’t let go, she bit down even harder.
But it seemed to have no effect at all.
She suddenly shrieked like a madwoman, "AHHH!!!!"
As she screamed, she balled her fists and slammed them viciously into Ethan Yardley’s face.
Her screams also drew the attention of the people nearby.
Julian Thorne couldn’t bear to watch any longer. He yelled at Ethan, "Are you trying to drive her to her death? Wasn’t it enough that she already died once?"
"AHHH!!! Julian, help me! Help me!!!"
Serena was still struggling and screaming.
Unable to withstand her frantic struggles, Ethan was forced to put her down.
Freed, Serena fled as if for her life, lunging toward Julian Thorne.
Her body trembling, she clung to Julian, mumbling incoherently, "Don’t... don’t give me to him. I don’t like him. I hate him.
My chest hurts whenever I see him. Julian, take me away. I’m scared."
She hid in his arms like a frightened kitten.
Julian quickly shielded her and said reassuringly, "Okay, I won’t give you to him. Let’s go."
He helped Serena back to her hospital room.
Ethan Yardley stood there stiffly, watching.
He saw how terrified his Serena was of him. The moment he touched her, she transformed, struggling and resisting wildly.
His heart seized with a wrenching pain.
But after coming to his senses, Ethan still followed them to the room.
Yannick Young reminded him, "Sir, Miss Serena doesn’t seem to remember you. You can’t be too hasty. You have to take it slow and win back her trust."
Of course, Ethan knew he had to take it slow.
But whenever he couldn’t see her, he could neither eat nor sleep in peace, terrified she would disappear again.
Especially whenever she leaned into another man’s arms, a bitter feeling churned in his gut.
Standing at the door to the hospital room, Ethan moved to go inside.
Julian Thorne came out and blocked his way.
"Looks to me like you just want her dead. Do you have to keep provoking her? Will you only be satisfied when she loses her mind, goes insane, or dies?"
He now truly suspected that it was Ethan who had backed Serena into a corner, forcing her to attempt suicide.
Ethan Yardley looked at Julian Thorne coldly.
If not for the fact that Julian was Nina Thorne’s brother, he would have torn him limb from limb long ago.
’How dare he hide my woman away. He’s courting death.’
Pressing his lips into a thin line, Ethan’s expression grew impossibly dark.
He reverted to his innate, superior air and ordered Yannick Young, "Get rid of him."
As soon as the words left his mouth, he stubbornly pushed his way into the hospital room.
Julian Thorne tried to block him again, but was once more stopped by Yannick Young.
Filled with indignation, he shouted at Ethan’s retreating back:
"Even if you saved Serena Yardley, even if she’s your wife, you have no right to control her life! You’re so tyrannical and domineering, you’ll drive her to her death sooner or later!"
"Master Thorne, please leave. Don’t make me use force."
Yannick Young forcibly restrained Julian Thorne and led him away.
Julian was unwilling. As he was led away, he looked back and shouted into the room, "Ethan, she’s such a good person! Just let her go!"
Listening to Julian’s words, Ethan’s face filled with displeasure.
He walked to the bedside. Seeing Serena huddled by the headboard and clutching the blanket, he fought to suppress his anger and approached her, his voice soft.
"Serena, don’t be afraid. I’m your guardian. Come to me."
Serena was still in shock, her mind a complete blank.
A sudden terror seized her. She felt as if she were surrounded by bloody, demonic claws, all swarming toward her.
Her face was terrifyingly pale, her body trembled, and her pupils were dilated. She clutched her head and screamed hoarsely:
"Don’t come near me! Don’t touch me! It hurts! It hurts so much!"
"My head... it hurts so much!"
In her distress, she began to claw at the white gauze wrapped around her head.
Seeing this, Ethan rushed forward to stop her. "Serena! Serena, it’s me! Don’t do this!"
"Don’t touch me! Go away! I don’t want to see you! I feel awful whenever you’re near me! Leave me alone! Get away from me now!"
She flailed her arms and legs, resisting Ethan’s approach while screaming in terror.
She had completely lost her senses, like a woman gone mad.
And she kept clawing at the wound on her head.
Unable to bear it, Ethan was determined to stop her.
"Serena, don’t do this! Your wound will reopen! I’m Ethan. I won’t hurt you."
He pulled her tightly into his arms, which only made her lose control even more. She wrapped her arms around his neck and bit down hard.
Ethan didn’t dare to move, simply letting her bite him.
’At least this way, she won’t hurt herself.’
Serena bit with all her might. Blood flowed from between her teeth, a shocking, vivid crimson.
But even this couldn’t suppress the terrified agitation coursing through her body.
Unable to break free from the man holding her, her vision went black, and she fainted.
"Serena..."
Seeing her go limp, Ethan yelled out the door, "Someone! Get in here, quickly!"
The doctor rushed in. Seeing the wound on the patient’s head had reopened, he immediately checked her vital signs.
Her heartbeat was nearly gone, and her brainwaves were flatlining.
The doctor urgently shouted to a nearby nurse, "Quick! Prepare for resuscitation, now!"
The nurses swarmed forward, pushed Ethan aside, and scrambled to begin resuscitation.
Ethan stumbled to the side, staring blankly as the team of medical staff began to resuscitate his Serena.
And his Serena... she lay on the bed, completely unresponsive.
He was terrified, staggering back several steps.
’I didn’t mean to do it.’
’I just wanted her to accept me.’
’I just wanted to be the only one by my Serena’s side.’
Seeing Ethan still in the room, a nurse immediately pushed him out. "Don’t get in our way. Wait outside."
Ethan was shut outside, but he could still clearly hear the thud of the defibrillator paddles against Serena’s chest.
THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!
It was as if that machine was pressing on his own chest, so heavy he couldn’t breathe.
’My Serena has to be okay.’
’If she really dies, then this time, it will be because I killed her with my own two hands.’
Ethan leaned against the wall and slowly sank to the floor, burying his head in his hands as tears blurred his bloodshot eyes.
After what felt like an eternity, the door to the room finally slid open.
Ethan pushed himself to his feet and asked the doctor, "How is she?"
The doctor looked at Ethan and roared without warning:
"Who are you? You’re not the man who was with her before, are you? Don’t you people understand how serious her condition is? She can’t handle any kind of stress! You’ll kill her like this!"
Ethan’s thin lips trembled, his eyes a frightening shade of crimson.
"So, how is she now?"
Even his voice was choked and unclear.
The doctor said coldly, "She’s not out of danger yet. We can only observe her for now and see if she can make it through the night.
I’m begging you, her family, please stop gambling with her life."
Utterly furious, the doctor stormed away.
Ethan was speechless.
’Can she make it through the night?’
’So my Serena...’
