Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 75: Remembering Everyone But Him
Ethan Yardley refused to accept that his Serena might only live until tonight.
He regretted it.
He should have listened to Julian Thorne and not provoked her.
That was why he had Yannick Young bring Julian Thorne back.
No matter how uncomfortable he felt, he had no choice but to ask Julian Thorne to help take care of her.
When Julian Thorne returned, he saw Ethan Yardley sitting on a bench outside the hospital room. A large patch of blood from the bite mark on his neck had stained his white shirt red.
It was a pitiable sight.
He spoke up, "You should go get your neck treated. I won’t be taking her away this time."
Ethan lifted his gaze to Julian Thorne, his eyes moist and bloodshot.
His throat tightened as he managed to choke out two words, "I’m sorry."
He was apologizing for what had happened earlier.
Julian Thorne, however, was magnanimous. "If you’re genuinely thinking of her well-being, I won’t blame you. She is your wife, after all."
"I was just too desperate. I never thought my haste would cause her so much harm,"
Ethan explained.
Julian sat down beside him and sighed.
"Actually, I know you must care for her, Ethan. Maybe your methods are just wrong. For example, you two are husband and wife, so why do you still keep Sylvia Schuyler around?"
Ethan was speechless.
He realized it.
It seemed that ever since Sylvia had appeared, their relationship had become strained and hostile.
Serena had often fought with him because of Sylvia.
He was the one who had brought up divorce at the beginning, yet in the end, he was the one unwilling to let go.
Sometimes, Ethan even felt he himself was fickle and utterly irrational.
Seeing Ethan’s silence, Julian didn’t press the matter. He stood up and said:
"I’ll go in and stay with her."
Ethan still said nothing.
He just kept sitting on the bench, praying and waiting for his Serena to wake up.
’This time, I will definitely not provoke her again.’ 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
’He would let her do whatever she wanted, as long as she woke up, as long as she was okay.’
And so, for one whole night, Julian kept watch inside the room while Ethan kept watch from the outside.
Neither of them left her side all night.
As dawn approached, Serena Yardley, lying on the hospital bed with an oxygen mask on her face and tubes all over her body, her face ashen, finally woke up.
With a tube in her small mouth, she murmured, "Uncle... Uncle..."
Seeing that she was awake, Julian quickly pressed the call button for a doctor.
When the doctor rushed into the room, Ethan, who was by the door, shot up in excitement.
He followed them into the room, but he didn’t dare take another step toward the bed, merely standing from a distance with bloodshot eyes.
Only after the doctor finished the examination did he ask, "How is she?"
The doctor let out a sigh of relief and said:
"She’s woken up, which is a good sign, but she’s not completely out of danger yet. You must not agitate her again. Let her rest for now."
"Okay," Ethan replied in a hoarse voice.
Watching the doctor leave, Ethan’s gaze fell on Serena Yardley once more.
He looked at Serena’s small frame, riddled with tubes, her entire head wrapped in white gauze, her face so pale it was devoid of all color.
Ethan’s heart ached terribly.
The pain in his chest felt like a corrosive poison.
But he still didn’t dare to approach her, just watched silently from a distance.
When Serena opened her eyes, the person she saw was Julian Thorne, which brought her a sense of security.
Julian quickly leaned in to comfort her. "Serena, don’t be afraid. I won’t leave you."
Serena blinked, unable to speak.
Perhaps her consciousness hadn’t fully returned, and after a short while, she passed out again.
This time, she was unconscious for two full days.
For those two days, both Julian and Ethan kept vigil by her bedside.
When Serena’s vital signs finally stabilized and she began to wake up, Ethan got up and moved away.
Julian leaned close to her again and called out, "Serena, Serena, you’ve been sleeping for a long time. Open your eyes and look at me."
Hearing his voice, Serena opened her eyes.
Many of the tubes had been removed, and some color had returned to her face.
She looked weakly at the person by her bed, her voice faint. "Julian, I had a dream."
Julian quickly asked, "What did you dream about?"
"I dreamed that you carried me out of the fishpond, and I also dreamed that Nina bought me a pretty dress."
Julian was pleasantly surprised. "So, you remember?"
Serena frowned, not understanding what Julian was talking about.
Seeing her frown, Julian quickly soothed her, "If you can’t remember, let’s not force it. How are you feeling now? Are you hungry? Do you want to eat something?"
Serena nodded. "Hungry... I want to eat Mrs. Miller’s dumplings."
"Hmm?"
Julian didn’t know who Mrs. Miller was.
Serena looked at him and asked again, "Where is Mrs. Miller?"
"Oh, her. She’s still at home; she hasn’t come over. I’ll call her right now and have her bring you some dumplings. Just wait for me, okay?"
With that, Julian hurried out of the room and asked Ethan, who was standing by the door:
"Who is Mrs. Miller? It seems like Serena is remembering a lot of things. She said she wants to eat Mrs. Miller’s dumplings, and she remembers my sister."
Ethan’s face lit up with joy, and he asked excitedly, "Did she ask about me?"
Julian shook his head. "First, have this Mrs. Miller or whoever make some dumplings and bring them over."
"Okay."
Ethan quickly took out his phone to call Mrs. Miller.
’Serena even remembers Mrs. Miller. She must remember me too.’
’I’m not in a rush. I’ll wait until she wants to see me before I show myself.’
Julian returned to the hospital room and raised the head of the bed so Serena could sit up comfortably.
"Julian, what happened to me? Why am I in the hospital?"
Serena moved her limbs; they didn’t really hurt.
But her head ached terribly.
She raised a hand to touch it and found her head was wrapped in thick gauze.
"You don’t remember why you’re in the hospital?" Julian asked.
Serena blinked her big eyes and shook her head.
"Then what do you remember?"
Serena frowned, thinking hard.
She spoke as she thought, "I remember having a barbecue with you, and Nina poured me a drink."
’It seems like Nina’s husband was there too, along with their friends.’
’But I can’t remember what that friend looked like, or what his name was.’
"You actually remember the barbecue! That’s amazing, Serena."
Seeing the girl still frowning and trying hard to remember, Julian quickly comforted her:
"Serena, if you can’t remember anything else, don’t force it. We’ll take it slow."
Serena nodded. "Okay."
As she sat on the bed, she thought she saw a shadow at the door. She asked Julian, "Who’s standing at the door?"
Julian knew it was Ethan. He smiled and said, "Probably the patient from the next room."
"Oh..."
Serena didn’t think much of it.
About an hour later, Mrs. Miller arrived with the food.
Seeing Ethan, Mrs. Miller nodded and called out, "Sir, I’ve brought the food. What happened to Miss Serena?"
Ethan silenced her with a gesture and instructed, "Take the food in. If she doesn’t mention me, you don’t mention me either."
