Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 98: Serena Yardley, Who Are You With?
The group of girls was clearly looking for trouble.
The one in the lead was half a head taller than Serena Yardley, dressed head-to-toe in designer brands and wearing heavy, garish makeup.
Her face was cold as she sized Serena up, letting out a scoff. "So you’re Serena Yardley?"
Serena eyed her back and scoffed in return. "That’s my name. Don’t wear it out."
"Hah, got some nerve, don’t you? I hear you’ve rejected Gabriel Galloway a few times?" the girl asked.
Gabriel Galloway?
Serena frowned, trying to place the name.
’It feels like it’s been a very, very long time since I’ve seen him.’
She looked at the girl and replied, "I have. Is there a problem?"
"Then call him right now. Tell him you need to see him and that he should come back to campus."
Relying on their numbers, the group tried to pressure Serena.
But Serena wasn’t the kind of girl who would let just anyone walk all over her.
She gave the girls a cold look and sneered.
"Is that how you ask for a favor? With an attitude like that, there’s no way in hell I’m making that call."
Grabbing Kylie Cross, Serena tried to walk around them and leave.
But the girls wouldn’t give up. They blocked her path again.
"Even if you don’t like Gabriel, you shouldn’t have forced him to drop out, should you? He didn’t register for this semester. As his only friend, shouldn’t you at least show some concern?"
Serena couldn’t be bothered to respond. She just pulled Kylie along and walked away.
Seeing Serena’s lack of cooperation, the girls fumed. "Should we teach her a lesson?" 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"This is school grounds. Do you want to get expelled?"
"Then how about we find someone to rough her up later?"
"We’ll talk about it later."
...
Kylie Cross scurried to keep up with Serena. "Serena," she asked, "Gabriel is actually a really nice guy. Why would he drop out? Maybe you should..."
As one of Gabriel’s admirers, Kylie really hoped the upperclassman would come back and finish his graduate studies.
Serena stopped in her tracks and turned to look at Kylie.
"I know Gabriel used to pursue me, but I barely remember him. Besides, what does him dropping out have to do with me?"
Kylie said cautiously,
"Even if it doesn’t, could you just ask him why he isn’t coming to school?"
Serena had no interest in other people’s business. She started walking toward her classroom. "I can’t be bothered. Besides, I don’t even have his contact info."
Seeing that Serena genuinely didn’t care about the upperclassman, Kylie didn’t press the issue.
At noon, Serena Yardley received a call from Julian Thorne.
He asked, "Serena, are you busy? Is it a good time for you to come off campus?"
She remembered that it was Julian who had saved her, and she still hadn’t properly thanked him.
Without hesitation, Serena said, "I’m not busy. Class just ended, and I was about to go to the cafeteria. Julian, are you back from filming?"
"Yeah, I’m at the restaurant across the street from your school. If you’re not busy, come have lunch with me."
"Okay."
After hanging up, Serena hurried over to the restaurant.
Julian Thorne had chosen a booth by the window, which happened to face the main gate of Arden University.
Watching Serena rush out of the school gates in a flurry, he stared without blinking, an inexplicable ripple stirring in his heart again.
But he constantly had to remind himself: ’She’s Ethan’s wife. I can’t have any improper thoughts about her.’
’The only reason I came to see her is to clear the air so we can just be good friends from now on.’
When he saw she had arrived, Julian Thorne stood up to greet her.
Serena, a huge smile on her face, met Julian with a look of immense gratitude. She opened her arms and asked,
"Can I give you a hug to show my thanks?"
Julian didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "Thank me for what?"
"For saving me! Before, I mistook you for my husband, so I thought it was only natural for you to save me. I didn’t even say thank you."
Julian understood. He raised his arms and pulled her into an embrace.
It was just a light hug, but he seemed to catch her unique, light fragrance—it was utterly captivating.
He found himself momentarily bewitched and didn’t let her go right away.
After the hug, Serena tried to pull away but found she couldn’t.
She cleared her throat and called out, "Julian?"
Julian finally snapped out of it and released her. The tips of his ears burned, making him feel extremely awkward.
"Have a seat. I ordered a few things randomly. See if there’s anything you like. If not, we can order something else."
"I’m not a picky eater."
Serena sat down, looking gratefully at the handsome and elegant man across from her, who seemed to radiate sunshine.
She said sincerely, "Julian, thank you so much for before. If it weren’t for you, I don’t know where I’d be... I might even be dead.
"From now on, you’re my greatest benefactor. If there’s ever anything you need me to do, just ask. I’d go through fire and water for you."
Julian lowered his head and chuckled softly.
He elegantly picked up his chopsticks to serve her some food, his eyes full of tenderness as he watched her.
"I don’t need you to go through fire and water for me. But if you don’t mind my asking, how are things going with you and Ethan?"
She had told him she was going to divorce Ethan.
’A few days have passed. I wonder how it’s progressing, and if she needs my help.’
Serena felt that Julian really knew her tastes. She took a few more bites before saying,
"I can’t get a divorce. I’ve decided not to fight him on it anymore. I’m just going to let things take their course."
Hearing this, Julian felt his heart sink.
He looked down, idly poking at the food in his bowl with his chopsticks, and forced a laugh.
"So, you’re not getting divorced anymore?"
"Yeah. Sometimes I think I don’t really hate that old man that much. Besides, I owe him a debt of gratitude, and I can’t be ungrateful."
Julian was speechless.
’I should be happy for Ethan and Serena, but for some reason, I just feel a bitter pang in my heart.’
Even his breathing felt a little tight.
"That’s great. I also think Ethan truly loves you. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have gone to such great lengths to keep you by his side."
’Especially when Serena was in trouble, Ethan was like a man possessed.’
’If he didn’t have her in his heart, why would he have been in so much pain?’
’Julian, oh Julian, you were a step too late.’
’So stop having these ideas about Serena. It’s good enough to just be friends from now on.’
"Julian, have some of this. It’s delicious."
Serena took the initiative to serve Julian some food.
Julian forced a smile. "Thanks. You should eat more, too. You’re so thin you’re nothing but bones."
"No, I’m not! I weighed myself at home last night. I’m already eighty-eight pounds."
Serena retorted with a pout.
"Tsk, tsk. Eighty-eight pounds? You don’t even weigh as much as one of my legs."
Julian teased.
Serena laughed along. "Oh yeah? Does that mean you weigh two hundred and twenty pounds, with each leg weighing eighty-eight?"
"Haha, I’m just kidding. Eat up."
Julian served her some food as well.
The two went back and forth, creating a very harmonious atmosphere.
After lunch, Julian Thorne walked Serena Yardley back to the school gate. Just as they were about to part ways, Serena received a call from Ethan Yardley.
She glanced at Julian and gestured to her phone. "I have to take this call."
"Mm-hm."
Julian stood beside her, watching.
Answering the call, Serena spoke with an annoyed tone.
"What do you want? Aren’t you a busy big shot? Why are you calling me in the middle of the day?"
"Where are you?" he asked, his voice somewhat cold.
Serena said casually, "I’m at school. Where else would I be?"
"Who are you with?"
"None of your business."
"Serena Yardley, who are you with?"
His attitude was terrible, and he sounded like a volcano on the verge of erupting.
But his interrogating tone really pissed Serena off.
Instead of answering, she hung up the phone directly.
Just as she was about to turn and say goodbye to Julian, she suddenly spotted a familiar car parked on the side of the road not far away—it was the same sedan she had taken to school that morning.
The car window was down, and she could clearly see the man inside. His face was darker than the bottom of a pot.
