Chapter 166: Chapter 166: From Now On, Never See Him Again

Evelyn looked at Caden Lockwood, gave him a pleasing smile, and said, "Shall we eat first? After dinner... there’s something... I want to talk to you about."

"Say it now," Caden Lockwood ordered.

"If I say it now, you might get indigestion," Evelyn muttered softly.

Caden Lockwood furrowed his brow, shifted his gaze, and said coldly, "If it’s something I don’t want to hear, then don’t say it."

"That won’t do!" Evelyn insisted, "Let’s eat first, and we can talk after dinner."

Caden Lockwood narrowed his eyes; he could mostly guess what Evelyn wanted to talk about.

Logan Shaw! 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

His grip on the chopsticks tightened, his knuckles turning white, and Caden Lockwood remained silent, his face clouded with gloom, deterring anyone from provoking him.

After dinner, he went to the study first.

Evelyn followed slowly, still debating how best to start the conversation.

She didn’t want Logan Shaw to lose the opportunity to pursue his dreams because of her.

She knocked on the door, and upon hearing the cold "come in," her heart leaped to her throat.

She pushed the door open and walked in; Caden Lockwood was working.

He kept his head down, wearing a navy shirt, with the sleeves loosely rolled up, looking effortlessly casual, his gaze on the documents, showing no intention of looking up.

Evelyn’s breath hitched as she stood there, and after a long pause, she mustered the courage to speak: "Can we talk about Logan Shaw?"

Caden Lockwood didn’t reply, but the pen he was writing with suddenly stopped.

"He really loves playing the piano and has put in a lot of effort. If you think about it differently, how sad would you be if someone did this to you?" Evelyn asked.

Upon hearing this, Caden Lockwood finally put down his pen and looked up, his sharp gaze directly targeting Evelyn.

Evelyn was so frightened that she shrank back, her smile becoming stiff, yet she still gathered the courage to meet Caden Lockwood’s eyes.

"From now on, don’t see him again," Caden Lockwood said slowly and firmly, "Then he can continue living the life he wants."

In that instant, Evelyn’s eyes dimmed.

Caden Lockwood should know Logan Shaw was the one who saved her back then!

Didn’t he say he asked Logan Shaw’s opinion when he decided to marry her?

Then by telling her not to see Logan Shaw anymore, wasn’t he asking her to be ungrateful?

Caden Lockwood narrowed his eyes slightly, staring at Evelyn, waiting for her to decide.

The longer she hesitated, the more his pent-up anger surged within his chest, his breath becoming ragged, wanting to drive the woman before him away.

Evelyn stood there, conflicted.

He wants her never to see Logan Shaw again?

"I know, even if I’m just your contractual wife, holding the title of Mrs. Lockwood, I can’t tarnish your name," Evelyn said softly.

Caden Lockwood snorted, signaling her to continue.

"But..." she bit her lip lightly, "If I agree with you, it’ll seem as if something unspeakable happened between me and him, and I don’t like that feeling. So, I can’t do it."

The air in the study suddenly turned icy cold. Evelyn didn’t dare delay, quickly blurting out what she wanted to say: "There’s all sorts of talk on the forums, but wasn’t the scandal between you and me also spread everywhere back then? Those people have nothing better to do all day, don’t you understand that?"

Seeing that Caden Lockwood had no intention of speaking, Evelyn continued: "And if I have to avoid my friends because of their gossip, what if one day they say Cece and I are lesbians? Would you force me to cut ties with Cece too?"

"Suddenly becoming sharp-tongued?" Caden Lockwood’s voice squeezed through his teeth, "Did he teach you that?"
