Chapter 165: Chapter 165: Would You Refuse Me?

Caden Lockwood raised an eyebrow, captivated by the sheer anticipation on Evelyn’s face.

He almost blurted out the truth.

Tightening his fist, he spoke lightly, "When you perform to my satisfaction, I’ll tell you."

Upon hearing this, Evelyn suddenly became angry.

"I thought you were going to tell me now!" she exclaimed in frustration.

Caden chuckled, a deep and pleasing sound resonating from his chest.

Evelyn, feeling defiant and helpless against him, bit her lip in frustration, resorting to burying her head under the covers, sulking.

Caden left her be, and when Aunt May brought in the food, she immediately perked up and ate, not thinking of anything else.

...

Life seemed to return to normal, as if the quarrel between Evelyn and Caden had never happened, but her body took quite some time to recuperate.

The doctor mentioned she hadn’t fully recovered after being rescued from the fire and then got soaked in the rain, which took a toll on her body.

With a deep sigh, she thought about the end-of-term approaching and the bet she had with all her classmates, feeling a bit nervous.

When the finals come around, can she really win the scholarship again? 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

It seemed like this was the first time she lacked confidence in herself.

Even though she wasn’t in good health, during her physical training exam, she managed to receive an "Excellent" grade for the first time.

The teacher who always criticized her, along with the classmates who mocked her, were astounded, unable to believe the once awkward Evelyn could dance so well.

Evelyn, in high spirits, certainly didn’t forget Caden who taught her how to dance.

When Caden returned home, she snuggled up to him and boasted, "I have good news for you!"

Caden, while removing his coat, glanced at Evelyn, "Tell me."

Feeling annoyed, she wondered why he was so stingy with words!

"I had my physical training exam today, and I got an Excellent!" Her eyes sparkled, "Do you know that feeling? Like being trampled in the mud before, then suddenly sprouting up and blooming into a beautiful flower that surprises everyone! Haha—that’s how I shone today!"

"I don’t know," Caden replied indifferently, "I’ve been shining since I was young, who would dare to trample me in the mud?"

Listening to Caden’s words, Evelyn’s face turned dark instantly.

She really wanted to give him a good punch, let him taste the consequences of being infuriating.

"Boring!" she huffed, "I was thinking of thanking you by taking you out for dinner this weekend, but now, guess not!"

"Try canceling and see what happens?" Caden reprimanded, "Time and location."

Evelyn rolled her eyes, "Just so you know! I can’t afford any fancy place! Just... a small diner where I think the food is pretty good."

She spoke hesitantly, worried that he might refuse.

After all, someone of his status probably has never been to such a small place!

"Alright." He agreed surprisingly effortlessly.

She looked at him in disbelief, "You... agreed?" She stuttered.

She thought he would mock her for being poor!

"Why wouldn’t I agree to a meal?" Caden replied coldly, patting Evelyn’s head, "Grateful and reciprocating, you’re quite the sensible little one."

Evelyn brushed off Caden’s hand in defiance and walked to the dining room, feeling unexpectedly curious.

Why would she want to take Caden out for a meal when Aunt May’s cooking is so delicious?

Moreover, neither she nor Caden had mentioned the reason for their recent argument.

But Logan Shaw’s issue was still unresolved, and right now, she didn’t know how to bring it up.

"What’s wrong?" Caden’s voice was condescending, "You look guilty as if you’ve done something wrong."
