Chapter 203: Chapter 203: My Wife Can Take Care of Me

"The boss’s office is this way, follow me." Sean Ashton immediately led the way, "Mrs. Lockwood, what’s wrong with your leg? Did you fall? Didn’t Miss Dunn say you had left?"

Evelyn managed a guilty smile, finding it hard to say anything and only followed Sean.

Sean opened the office door, and Evelyn stood at the entrance, appearing somewhat awkward.

"Mrs. Lockwood, go inside. There’s a small partition in the office; the boss is resting inside," Sean said softly.

Evelyn responded, took a deep breath, and slowly moved inside.

She walked to the partition doorway and peered inside; her eyes, once filled with joy, suddenly dimmed.

The partition was a small yet exquisite bedroom; Caden Lockwood lay on the bed while Shannon Dunn sat at its edge, gently massaging his temples.

Shannon had a faint smile at the corner of her mouth, while Caden, with his eyes closed, seemed much relaxed.

Seeing this scene, Evelyn realized her persistence in coming to see Caden was indeed unnecessary.

Caden and Shannon were lovingly sweet in the partition, and her presence certainly spoiled the mood!

She should have left immediately, but her legs felt leaden, unable to move, her gaze firmly fixed on Caden’s face.

His face remained haggard, with deep exhaustion between his brows; even though he’s ill, his domineering presence hadn’t diminished, still so aloof, alluring to admire.

Suddenly, Shannon raised her gaze and saw Evelyn standing at the partition door; her brow furrowed sharply. She quickly glanced at Caden, who was resting, then glared at Evelyn with eyes clearly warning.

Evelyn was greatly startled, feeling guilty and embarrassed, thinking that, at this moment, she was like a mistress despised by the rightful wife.

Hastily, she turned to flee, but her painful foot wouldn’t obey; she stumbled and fell against the door, making a soft "bang" sound.

Caden opened his eyes at that instant, saw Shannon beside him, then looked at Evelyn at the doorway, her face panic-stricken, and before he could comprehend the situation, he watched Evelyn flee in haste.

His heart jumped to his throat; Caden instinctively got up, pushed Shannon’s hand away, and chased after Evelyn, grabbing her wrist.

"I’m sorry! I didn’t mean it! I just wanted to check on you, to make sure you’re okay; there’s no other intention! Really sorry! I didn’t intend to disrupt you two! I’m sorry!" Evelyn said with a sobbing tone.

What to do?

Why did she turn herself into a... mistress?

"You’re here now, planning to leave like this?" Caden said, his tone was far from gentle.

"I..."

Caden turned his gaze to Shannon and asked sternly, "Why are you here?"

A flicker of panic shone in Shannon’s eyes but she quickly calmed down, explaining, "The chairman knew you were unwell, and specifically asked me to take care of you."

Caden held Evelyn close, saying coldly, "My wife can take care of me."

Shannon nodded and sensibly left.

Watching Shannon’s departing figure, Evelyn felt even more anxious.

She looked at Caden again, who was also looking at her; his features overflowed with tenderness, leaving her speechless.

Caden pulled Evelyn into the partition; he had just had a headache, took medicine, and woke up, lacking the strength to stand for long.

Lying on the bed, he looked at Evelyn standing beside it and asked, "Who told you to come?"

"I came myself," Evelyn said softly, feeling embarrassed.

A hint of satisfaction flickered in his eyes, "You knew I was sick?"

Evelyn stood anxiously, her hands tightly clasped together, "Yes."

She was excessively embarrassed.

If she had known sooner, she wouldn’t have come.

Coming to see, would it make her feel better?

Now things are really off!

What has she become?
