Chapter 172: Tri-Barreled Cannon

He needed to open those doors. Not just to let the others inside but also because the smoke from the burning tank was filling up the room. He could not use the tank itself because he already destroyed it.

He would have to destroy the doors himself. As he walked toward the doors he looked them over. They opened outward so the hinges were embedded in between the door and the doorway for security. But the door was opened by hydraulic machines that pushed it open and forced it closed from this side.

There were three hydraulics on each of the doors. He aimed at the left door’s top hydraulic and fired the tri-barreled cannon. It shook his body again. While the bullet slammed into the top hydraulic there was a loud clanging followed by the loud noise of air escaping from the container.

He aimed at the middle hydraulic and fired again. This time there was an explosion when the bullet hit the hydraulic. Instead of air escaping a bit at a time the entire metal container exploded outwards and the hydraulic fell into two parts still hanging from the door and the wall. A few pieces of shrapnel from the air explosion ripped through the air. He was treated to the sight of a larger piece of shrapnel tearing through some of the biomechanical mechanics. Whose blood was red instead of the blue he had usually seen.

The ones that were only injured began screaming and crying while the dying ones were coughing up blood and trying to crawl away. Seems these biomechanical mechanics were human enough to have their own sense of reason. Which made sense considering what they were probably here to do.

He aimed at the lowest hydraulic and fired again. This time the first shot bounced off the edge of the hydraulic and only dented it. There was some air escaping but only a minor amount of air. He then fired a second time and the lowest hydraulic exploded and the door creaked as it slightly moved from the explosive force of the air exploding outwards. This time he had to dodge to the side as a large piece of shrapnel sailed past him and hit the back of the garage and embedded itself in the metal wall.

He then moved to the side, walking over some corpses and fried at the center of the doors. He fired for a few seconds using up the rest of the shells that were in the chain that were feeding into the tri-barreled cannon. When he was done the door had opened enough that the truck could move inside. Which it did a moment later while the smoke from the burning tank escaped out the top of the door.

Jace set down the tri-barreled cannon and began reloading it. Making sure to copy the schematic of the cannon and the chain of shells that fed into it as well. This would be useful later if they wanted to design something similar. Especially since the shells and bullets they were using were inefficient when compared to the designs from the Vexical Empire.

"Well it looks like you did some damage. But what are those things?" Parrot nodded at the cowering and hiding biomechanical mechanics. She parked the truck right next to him.

"They are more biomechanical people. But these ones have at least an inkling of their sense of self and can think more than just beyond operating procedures. Which is why their blood has not been swapped out with another type." Jace explained as he pulled his equipment bag out of the passenger seat and then put the Dragon’s breath on his back as well.

"What are we doing now?" Parrot asked as she jumped out of the driver seat with her gear and sniper rifle.

"First you need to combine your gear bag which looks like it is about to fall apart with Tako’s. Then you will carry him while I lead the way. Keep in mind that his shielding unit is disabled and the armor has been severely damaged." Jace informed her as he picked up the tri-barreled cannon.

He walked towards the wall and of the room and put his hand against it. He began reading the schematic. There were many rooms like this room on the edges. While toward the center was an open area. Then on lower levels were a system of tracks that led deep underground and different directions.

That was probably how Dahlia planned to get into the structure. With the amount of trains running down there it would not be difficult for her to come in through that entrance. But moving up the structure the second layer was littered with various rooms that were probably labs. But there was still a central area that was open but looked like it had something inside it.

On the roof was a fortress with a roof that could open up. There were several cannons and other weapons on the roof. It was strange but after a few moments he understood the schematics. Then he frowned as there would not be a single central structure that Hoodwink could operate out of.

After a moment he sighed and nodded, "we will head to the floor with the various labs." Jace instructed as he turned around to see Parrot carrying Tako. "Actually we will start by heading to a central staircase." He then switched to the command communication channel. "Jace to Dahlia, how far out are you?"

The response was scratchy when it arrived, "ten minutes. Do you still have injured people?"

"Yes, we have one injured. We are already inside of the structure." Jace responded as he walked to a door that he would have to get past. He picked a route that would not take him past any large areas. "Keep in mind that this structure is probably completely under control of Lord Hoodwink. I imagine he is even attempting to break the encryption on the communication channel now. So be cautious of what you say. That is all." Jace then switched back to the local channel.

He then raised the tri-barreled cannon and fired at the door. After the third shot the reinforced door was flying out of the doorway. Screeching as it slid across the floor. But Jace’s own body was feeling sore. While his armor was indicating fractured plates in his arms.

He walked past the doorway and into the hallway. There were many open doors but at the end of the hallway the door had a second door close over it. Just like what happened earlier when someone tried to seal him into the tank room.

Jace raised the tri-barreled cannon again. The door flew off the hinges again. He continued leading the way like this. He had to shoot through several more doors. While they had yet to run into actual combat yet. But he stopped just before shooting down another door since the next room was perfect for an ambush.

He nodded at a spot farther back. "Stay back there." Parrot nodded and backed up. Jace sighed and turned his attention to the door. He fired again. The door flew into the room and Jace quickly followed it inside.

Just as he thought, there were multiple combat biomechanical creatures here. Some were the blockheads, they were on the second floor of this staircase room. They were aiming down at him.

Bullets and lasers began hitting around him as he aimed at a corner and fired. Hitting the bottom of the concrete balcony. It shattered and the rest of the balcony began falling with it. He had to keep moving through because while the blockheads were distracted by losing their footing the creatures on the ground were running at him to cause trouble.

He side steepped as an upgraded version of the biomechanical hellhound jumped at him. Jace kicked one at the stairs and flinched as he felt his other leg get bit by another of them. He swung the tri-barreled cannon and sent another of them flying through the air.

Then one of them grabbed the barrel of the cannon with its mouth and Jace fired it. The result was an exploding head that covered Jace’s helmet in blood. Blinding him for the moment. But he did not need vision to hit an enemy as he swung his other leg and felt at least a few more of the hellhounds fly through the air.

He brought a hand up and wiped his helmet. He then swung the cannon and hit another hellhound towards a recovering blockhead. He then took up position with his back to the stairs and began firing. Doing a sweep of the room with the tri-barreled cannon. Going from the edge of the door he entered to the other side of the room.

Once he was done with the sweep the air in the room was ringing while the cannon clicked since it was out of ammunition again. The wall on one side had dents and shattered concrete where the bullets had slammed into.
