SSS-Knight in a Hero World-Chapter 107: Live, Laugh, Money
Since it was already becoming late into the night, the two couldn't converse any further, only leaving each other awkward goodbyes and farewells.
Of course, Ferris did mention his trip to the orphanage tomorrow.
In response, Prin assigned Magpie to be with Ferris for tomorrow, to Ferris' reluctance.
As of now, he enjoyed the comfort of the room provided to him by Prin, and under the warm blanket with his head peacefully resting on the pillow, he scrolled through social media until he was prepared to sleep.
let's see if that man's account exists...
He quickly tapped his thumbs on the screen and wrote out a name he created himself. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
@downbaddemon101
To his joy, the account still existed, but something was off.
In the profile picture was a smiling girl with red hair.
And just below the profile tab was a post with a picture attached.
Scrolling down in confusion, Ferris was surprised to see Artemis and her father eating ice cream in a mall he wasn't familiar with.
...they can just do that? Ferris thought. He didn't believe that the two could walk around public places without being threatened by the Hero Association.
But then again, these were "foreigners," so it was unknown if the association even knew of their existence. But even if they did have their intel on the two, they wouldn't risk a direct confrontation due to their anomalous nature and were settled with just watching their every move.
After watching the portrait of the two, he scrolled down a little to see its like count.
A couple thousand.
how popular... Ferris lampooned.
what about my post?
Ferris scrolled down even further, but he only found that the ice cream post was the only one.
He already imagined who the culprit was.
But despite that, he was glad Artemis deleted it, as after seeing how popular Artemis already was with just one picture, he wouldn't want a thousand people to read his poetry about a heaven defying demon.
Ferris sighed and turned to a favorable sleeping position that suited his shattered mood.
As the thoughts overwhelmed him to sleep, he could only think of someone that might've been able to straighten him up in an instant.
Yaromech... what should I do now?
After a moment of nothing, Ferris allowed himself to drown in his own bed and fell asleep with a few thoughts still lingering in his mind.
In the morning, Ferris instantly woke up from his alarm and stumbled upon Magpie and Prin in the kitchen.
The three stared at each other, and Ferris had some vicious thoughts in his head regarding Prin.
I know I just woke up, but you look... Ferris lampooned.
Prin, in the span of a night, had already developed noticeable eye bags.
I know Mr. Anvil inherited my mentor's memories, but at least take care of your daughter.
Ferris recalled Yaromech's unusual way of teaching. According to Alaric, Yaromech was considered abysmal at traditional teaching, and on the rare times he did teach a group of young squire candidates, Yaromech had the opposite effect of collectively lowering their intelligence.
Frankly, it was a miracle that Ferris even learned something from Yaromech.
I guess inheriting Yaromech's life lowers parenting skill, though, from Prin's story, Mr. Anvil wasn't that great of a parent to begin with.
Forcing himself to not point out Prin's state, he calmly sat at the table, which was more like an extension of the kitchen instead of being separated.
He stared at the brown bags in front of him.
more fast food?
Ferris locked eyes with Prin, but she quickly averted her gaze and focused on her own meal.
I guess we're still at the acquaintance stage.
The entire breakfast session was completely devoid of words between the two, although Magpie was the one to talk the most despite the atmosphere.
Ferris noticed her intently staring at him, almost as if she was studying him.
"Do you want one?" Ferris shook his fries in front of Magpie's blank face.
"No, continue."
"..."
The moment Ferris ate his last spoon of breakfast was when Magpie started talking again.
"I have memorized the route to the orphanage.
I will be driving."
After saying those words, Magpie began walking away to an unspecified location, but knowing her, Ferris assumed she was already going out and he was meant to follow her.
Ferris acted quickly, but at the minimum, he dumped his mess inside the brown bag before leaving the table.
Halt.
Ferris froze right under the doorway. There was an inner voice nagging at him to say something at least, but he couldn't find the right words for it.
. . .
"Prin."
Her name left his mouth without reason, causing him to utter more words without any deeper meaning behind them.
"Eat healthier."
. . .
Prin stared at Ferris with a dejected gaze, but Ferris wasn't there to fully notice it as he had already left the scene in a hurry to catch up with Magpie.
After catching up to her, Ferris followed closely from behind.
I almost forgot how big this place is, Ferris thought. His sense of scale was a bit off due to the small bedroom and apartment he was already familiar with.
But when they entered a large hangar, that sense of scale was again broken.
There was a row of mechs in their service stations, he was familiar with most of them thanks to his body's knowledge, but it was still a surreal experience.
If this were the real Ferris, he would've instantly began fanboying but Felix was there to stop himself from acting in such a way.
However, deep inside, he allowed himself to be awestruck.
So damn cool.
The mech that he once entered before now felt cheap.
They could easily hug Artemis' wyvern form like a stuffed toy.
After seeing the ones he was already familiar with, his eyes caught a mysterious mech that was alone in the corner. Compared to the other ones, this one was exactly a knight's full body armor, but upscaled and modernized to fit the technology it required to build.
But what caught his eyes was the obscenely large sword that sat on a large metal table nearby.
This one used an actual sword instead of a purely essence based blade.
As they passed by, Ferris counted almost ten seconds for them to cross the distance from hilt to tip.
Exiting the hangar, it was back to the human sized hallway that led to the garage.
When they arrived, Ferris stopped to observe the collection of various vehicles.
Just standing before the collection made his wallet feel inadequate.
Magpie stopped with Ferris, turning towards him in an elegant motion. "Which one would you like?"
Ferris paused, startled at her sudden question, but he remained quiet.
let's see, there's no way an average car is here, and I can't just ask her to choose herself.
Hiding his shaking arms, Ferris pointed at a supercar covered with a silver paint job with a distinct emblem of a black horse on its nose.
Even though Magpie would be the one to drive it, Ferris still wanted the experience.
And besides, there isn't a rule in the creed that forces him to act frugally.
"Please, that one."
