SSS Technology System: My Talent's Name Is D.E.L.T.A-Chapter 30: I’m In Police Custody?
[Nano Regeneration has been activated.]
Jackson’s neighborhood suffered a minor blow, losing only three to four buildings in the battle against the mutated human. And a huge hole in the middle of the streets.
Sirens blared loudly, and by the time the Nano Regeneration process was complete, the Nova City police department had already swarmed the scene.
Phantom’s lenses fluttered open, and he slowly regained his vision. Soon enough, he found himself detained at the back seat of a police car, with his hands cuffed behind his back. "W—what?"
He struggled to move, but then, he was still recovering, after all the Nano Regeneration required stamina to regenerate lost tissues, ligaments and bones.
"Lieutenant. He’s finally awake." One of the officers that stood guard outside the vehicle alerted the Lieutenant, who questioned the neighbors who lived around there.
"He’s awake? Good." He left the witnesses, and approached the car with a smile on his face. He rested his arm on the roof of the car, then bent over into the window.
"So I finally have the pleasure to meet the great Shadow Vigilante, you’ve caused quite a lot of trouble for me and my men. For starters, that trick you pulled earlier today." A grin stretched across his face, for someone so nonchalant, he was happy.
Not only did he fulfill his promise to bring in the Shadow Vigilante in less than three days, but he finally got the opportunity to see the man behind the shadows.
Silence.
Phantom didn’t respond, he didn’t even take a glance at him. And although it infuriated Lieutenant Dean just a bit, it didn’t change the fact that he was in his custody.
"You’re not going to say anything? Come on, this is me being nice, you’ve committed several atrocities, I don’t even think I can call this a crime, especially after what you did." He glanced back at the huge hole in the ground, then turned his attention back to Phantom.
"Still not going to say anything? Vigilantism is a crime punishable by two years in prison, then there’s your other crimes, public destruction, property damage by leaving holes in the roofs of civilians when you perform your reverse spiderman jump." He listed his crimes detail by detail.
And to Phantom, he sounded pathetic.
After all, because of the alliance between Starcore Delta and these industries, there has been a lot more damage to society than holes in rooftops.
"We tried taking off your mask, but it wouldn’t budge. Witnesses claim you wore a powerful suit of armor to combat a monster, I don’t see any suit of armor on you. You see what your actions have caused? Mass drunkness. I can hardly call spandex with a hoodie on a proper clothing let alone a suit of armor."
The officers tried taking off his mask and his gloves, but the deadlock function of H.A.V.A prevented them from unveiling his identity.
"For a Lieutenant." Phantom finally spoke, his voice a bit deepened in order to conceal his true voice. "You talk a lot."
"Tch." The Lieutenant drew away from the window, signalled to his men, and they all got in their squad cars.
"Well whatever, whether you comply or not, that mask is coming off one way or another, and I’ll finally get to meet the man behind the shadow." He grinned, then got into the squad car, and they took off, heading back towards the police station.
’Hava.’ Phantom thought.
[Yes master?]
’I need a smoke bomb to get out of this, the officers took all the ones I had.’
[Your request cannot go through at the moment.]
’What?’
[During your fight with the mutated human, failsafe measures were employed and it drained the sum total of nanites in the Digitally Advanced Carrier. The only nanites left are the ones in your body powered by D.E.L.T.A, the Shadow Suit Mark I and the Dual Pulse Gloves you summoned before you were critically injured.]
’How long do I have untill the nanites are fully restored?’
[Two Quients, which translated to Earth’s language, two days.]
"Two days?" His lenses shot open. "I’ve gotta wait two days? What a pain."
"Hey, quiet down, you’ll have a lot of time to scream when you’re rotting behind bars." The Lieutenant said with a chuckle.
"Lieutenant... I’m not your enemy." After a long moment of silence, Phantom spoke up. "Your real enemies are out there, plotting as we speak, and these Intergalactic agents you trust so much in defending the earth won’t do anything about it."
"Shut it Vigilante, who said I ever trusted Starcore Delta? I’m a man of the law, we follow orders and punish those who breaks the law, right now the one breaking the law is you. So believe me when I say, I’m going to enjoy every moment of your punishment. Vigilante."
[Master, you have fully recovered the lost stamina expunged in the Nano Regeneration process.]
[You are now back to full health.]
[You are now back to full strength.]
"Is that so?" The Vigilante said softly, slowly arching his back forward. "If that’s what you want, then tell me lieutenant, how are you going to do that when there’s no one to punish?"
With his enhanced strength, he snapped the hand cuffs into two, and the officers in the car went on high alert immediately.
"What!? Restrain him!" The Lieutenant shouted, then pulled out his gun.
With an elbow to the face of the officer sitting besides him, Phantom knocked him out cold, then immediately placed his palm on the ceiling of the car.
[Activating Pulse Wave.]
A sharp hum burst from his Dual Pulse Gloves as concentric rings of blue energy surged outward from his palm — a focused pulse wave that slammed into the ceiling of the car, and tore a hole in it.
"No!" The Lieutenant aimed his gun at him and pulled the trigger, but Phantom leaped out through the hole in the roof of the car, and the bullet bounced off his leg.
He shot a grappling hook from the Dual Pulse Gloves, and it latched on to the roof of another building, and pulled him towards it.
"NO!" Lieutenant Dean pressed down on the brakes, then came down from the car. And he immediately pointed his gun at the roof. "Freeze!"
Phantom crouched on the rooftop, one leg stretched forward and a hand steady on the surface of the roof, and his gaze fixed on the cops below. "Sorry, but not tonight, someone’s gotta stop those bastards, and it sure as hell won’t be those fucked up puppets of Coral Industries."
He took off, travelling through the rooftops, and the Lieutenant threw his gun at the ground with all his might.
"Damn it!"
