Chapter 9: Triple Threat Tradegy

Starcore Delta

Team Alpha’s Quarters

Victoria stepped out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her curvaceous body, with her hair still wet. Her room in the Starcore Delta base wasn’t small but it wasn’t big either, with a narrow bed, a desk.

It was just a place they could catch their breaths and rest before their next mission.

She walked over to the mirror, wiping away a bit of steam so she could see her face. Water dripped slowly down her shoulders as she took a calm breath, enjoying the brief moment of peace before returning to her duties later on.

"What a day." She sighed as she sat gently on her bed. She picked up the folder right next to her and glanced at it for a moment.

That folder contained the contents of her next mission, and she was expected to depart next week. She put down the folder, then turned on the television for a little entertainment as she had been off world for a while.

[News Broadcast]

"Good morning Nova City! It’s another spectacular day here at the capital of the awakened! My name is Stephanie and I’m your host for today’s Daily Nova Talk."

"Alright Stephanie, let’s talk about the hottest gossip in the city today, the crime intervention that took place last night."

"Oh! I almost forgot about that, what about it Damian?"

"It seems Nova City has a vigilante on it’s hands, what are your thoughts about it?"

"My thoughts Damian? I wouldn’t call him a vigilante, first of all, he doesn’t even look like one. I mean he wears a weird mask."

The photo taken by the police drone appeared on the screen, revealing a sleek, futuristic black mask. Its design was sharp and minimalist, with glowing white eyes and a single line running down the center, cleanly dividing both sides.

"He looks more of those thugs than a vigilante, besides, it’s a shocking news to me. A crime fighter? In a city where vigilantism is strictly prohibited."

Victoria sat on the edge of her bed, crossing her legs with ease as she combed through her hair with her attention on the news playing on the TV.

She still couldn’t believe it.

A Vigilante? In Nova city?

It sounded absurd.

The Upper sector of Nova City was a technological empire in its own right, not the kind of place where someone could just wake up one day and decide to play hero. The criminals here operated on a whole different level, with a whole different level of weaponry.

"That may be true Stephanie, but he did step in when no one could. West Avenue harbor is filled with lots of shipments from major tech companies in the city, imagine the losses these companies would have suffered if not for his intervention. I don’t know about you, but that’s what I call a hero."

"A hero Damian? A building was caught in that explosion, imagine what would happen if there were civilians around? We have law enforcements for a reason, they handle these things professionally with care for others property, nor recklessly."

Victoria shot up from her bed in an instant, as if she’d just seen a ghost. "West Avenue?"

West Avenue was located in the lower sector, all this time she thought that it all happened in the upper sector, but she was wrong.

What made the situation even worse was that she once grew up in the lower sector, years before it became the mess that it was today, so she knew how defenseless they were, especially against the level of technology she saw those criminals use on TV.

And the crazy part about it? The police refused to do anything about it.

"I’m sorry commander." She whispered under her breath, she couldn’t sit still and watch her hometown suffer even more, especially when she knew she could do something about it.

..

Victoria walked through the halls of the agency, and her heels clicked loudly against the floor with each step.

Soon enough, she arrived at her destination in the ICT division of Starcore Delta. As she pushed the door open, every head turned toward her; chairs scraped back, and whispers flew across the room.

"Fucking hell..."

"Holy shit! It’s A—Agent Alpha!"

"What is the most distinguished and one of the most popular earth heroes doing in the ICT division of all places?"

They couldn’t hide their excitement. Though they worked for Starcore Delta, nearly half the staff had never seen their idols in person, despite sharing the same building most of the time.

She made her way to a slightly chubby man in a white shirt, black tie, and black pants with glasses perched on his nose. Almost instantly, his fingers flew across the keyboard and his hand guided the mouse with practiced precision, all before she reached his desk.

A look of disgust swept away the anger from her face. She didn’t need to guess why he had moved so quickly, people like him were the reason she despised the passion she had chased these past years.

To them, Earth’s saviours, or heroes were not just someone they could look up to, they were just a means of relieving their stress. They saw them as a neverending wanking essentials.

"Given how you abuse the agency’s Wi-Fi, are you in charge of the ICT division?" She went straight to the point, retaining the look of disgust she had against his actions.

"N-no... But I have access to several data." He stuttered, choosing his words carefully, after all his idol was in his presence, a sight he never thought he’d behold.

"Good enough, I need the data on the attempted robbery at West avenue docks."

"U-um, I’m not allowed to disclose such information without the appropriate permission."

Victoria sighed.

She had known it wouldn’t be as easy as she’d hoped to get the information she needed, but luckily for her, he handed her a trump card.

"Is that right? Mr... Williams." She leaned in, her eyes narrowing on the name tag pinned to his breast pocket, and stepped closer.

"Does the agency know how you spend their WiFi? Watching explicit contents which goes directly against the organizations rules?" She guided the mouse towards his browser and opened up his search history and clicked.

"What the hell is this!?" She couldn’t believe her virgin eyes, she was more shocked than confused, the size on the man, the hole he created, it was simply inhuman.

She glanced back at him, not in disgust, but in disbelief. Regardless of how mind-blowing it was, she haf him dead to rights.

"Is this what you enjoy Williams? Well, I think the higher-ups ate going to have a lot of time to decide how to deal with you."

"Wait wait, please, this job is all I have, I’ll help you." Just as she turned to leave, his voice called her back, laced with helpless pleas.

"Tell me about the attempted robbery at West avenue docks." She asked again.

"Okay okay." His fingers flew across the keyboard, punching several keys and in the blink of an eye, he accessed Starcore Delta’s mainframe which had information on practically everything concerning Earth’s affairs.

"There were three robbers in question, attempting to steal a van, or rather the contents of the van and was stopped by the masked vigilante."

"What were the contents of the van?"

"I don’t know, the data is restricted even to me, all data about the shippings at that specific docks is restricted."

"Restricted? I see, whatever’s down at that dock is extremely important."

"Most likely, and look at the van, it belongs to Coral Industries."

"Coral Industries?" She lifted her head, confused. Coral Industries was among the top companies in a Nova City, renowned for their cutting-edge advancements.

What was it doing down in the lower sector of all places? Plus, if it really belonged to Coral industries, and robbers were targeting it. It could only mean trouble.

"That means, whatever it is they tried to steal is definitely important, and they’ll be back. And I’ll be there to stop them."

..

Back at school, classes had yet to begin, and Eric was lost in his own thoughts since the beginning. Everything still hit him hard like a bus, and he still couldn’t wrap his head around it.

"Tch, I couldn’t even get in the mood to enjoy today’s color show."

[Master.]

As he was lost in his thoughts, a soft blue panel flickered to life above his wristwatch. Without hesitation, Eric pressed his palm to the touch display and darted into an empty classroom.

’Shit! H.A.V.A, you shouldn’t randomly just pop up when I’m in a crowd! What are you trying to do by calling me master when I’m surrounded by people!?’

[This is the only means of communicating with you master.]

’Still! Popping up as panel is over killing it.’

[Understood, would you like to link me to your mobile device? That way we can communicate more efficiently and less advancely.]

"Wait, you can actually do that?"

[Yes master.]

"Fine, let’s go with that."

[Uploading.....]

[Upload successfully!]

His phone screen flickered to life as the inscriptions H.A.V.A took over his wallpaper, in a matter of seconds, it returned back to normal before an SMS popped up.

[Is this better master?]

"Yes, much better, now what is it?"

[I’m detecting a rapid rise in the temperature in the waters of the West Avenue, most likely from the core that was dropped into it.]

"Okay... What’s that got to do with me?"

[The more the power source is sperated from it’s reactor which is most likely the van they planned on stealing, it will go critical, resulting in an explosion that will level a continent.]

"Oh... Fuck, can’t I just inform the police about this?" He completely forgot about the life threatening power source that the robbers foolishly dropped into the ocean.

[And what would you say?]

Eric sighed.

"That means I’ll have to retrieve it? What a pain."
