Chapter 1040: Chapter 1040 Bard

Shard asked about Sir Plisha because he didn’t have a way to completely kill the demon, nor could he hurriedly arrange a sealing ritual, so he could only wait for the doctor to arrive quickly.

In the music hall separated by a wall, the performance continued, moonlight illuminated the wall, and the silver sword "Night Watchman" sparkled brightly pinned to the wall.

The demon continued to wail and moan, the influence of that sword on it was extraordinary:

"I told him what The Chosen One truly is, I sparked his desire, even though he did not agree to let me possess him, I still gained power because of it."

"So you already know... What about his past do you know?"

Shard continued to ask, though the demon was still screaming in pain, a strange smile appeared on its face:

"To obtain some precious books, he killed people. To learn the secrets of the past, he murdered his close friend."

Shard slightly frowned; he had to decide for himself whether to trust the demon’s information. Just as he was about to say something, he suddenly felt the chains in his hand loosen forcefully.

In the deafening screams that almost tore his eardrums, he was shocked to see the demon pinned to the wall, actually abandoning the part of its body that was pierced by the "Night Watchman," escaping the influence of that sword.

The "Great Sin Chains" were forcefully broken for the first time, the howling demon gave a final warning maliciously:

"If the chains of great sin contained one more sin, I might truly be unable to leave. Such a pity, hunters of the Sixth Era, you damned fellows, even spanning such a long time you still relentlessly haunt me. But fate is not on your side, if you have the courage, then chase after me."

The blurry shadow directly melted into the wall, seemingly passing through it, heading towards the stage in the music hall where the performance was ongoing.

The "Great Sin Chains" wrapped around the hilt of the "Night Watchman" sword, removing it from the wall. Outside the wall, the music being played suddenly changed tone. The originally stirring melody became oppressive and somber, the violin sounded like a saw cutting wood, transforming the majestic Chapter narrating a hero’s epic into a tale of demons.

At the same time the music changed, Shard heard the sound of unrest. The True God Church and the Three Major Academies had people stationed in the music hall tonight, and this eerie music naturally drew their attention.

But the demon which found no advantage in Shard’s hands, without "Night Watchman," a weapon of restraint like this, was still unmanageable for ordinary Circle Sorcerers. The sinister and terrifying music didn’t stop, but the sounds of resistance and disorder grew fainter. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

Shard knew this was due to the incident caused by his and the doctor’s actions; he couldn’t wait to meet up with the doctor, at this moment it was his responsibility to solve all the trouble.

Just as he was about to move while holding the sword, he heard the sound of applause.

Looking suspiciously towards the window, a young man wearing a large green hat, adorned with feathers, holding a Lyra in his arms, dressed in a dashing white shirt, green coat, and tapered trousers with brown leather boots, was smiling sitting on the windowsill. The moonlight shone on this man, who looked like a bard, and Shard hadn’t noticed when he had appeared.

"Outlander, you have touched the Whisper."

"Relic again?"

"Very nice, a very nice drama."

The young man clapped and gestured for Shard not to be tense:

"Allow me to introduce myself, I am recorded as the Keeper of Secrets Level Relic ’Bard Ryan’ in the containment records of the Church of Creation and Destruction."

He plucked the strings, like pulling at the heartstrings of listeners:

"I always appear in concerts, banquets, and celebrations, offering tests and rewards to those artists who have performed splendidly."

After saying this, he plucked the strings once more, the tone slightly higher this time.

"Hmm..."

Shard hesitated for a moment, he guessed this was probably the target of the Church and Academy tonight:

"I am honored you voluntarily appear before me, but... I am not an artist, perhaps you should go to the stage, the True God Church probably prepared a rather grand welcome ceremony for you tonight."

"No, no, performances don’t always have to be on stage."

The bard said with a smile:

"Just now, your performance of ’Hero vs. Demon’ with that demon gentleman, amidst the music, was outstanding. Who would have thought, in this era of flourishing human civilization in the Sixth Era, a youth holding a Third Era Demon Hunter Relic could defeat a genuine Evil Spirit Demon in a deserted corner?"

He plucked the strings once again, smiling at Shard with his back to the moonlight:

"In fact, aside from you, I’ve also set my eyes on a poet with an ancient sacred lineage, but unfortunately, he’s not as good as you, and he left after encountering a demon, so I appear before you."

Shard hesitated briefly:

"The person you’re referring to, possesses Cherub bloodline power?"

The bard nodded with a smile, which completely confirmed Shard’s guess, that the Chosen One of "Knowledge and Wisdom" possessed Cherub bloodline power, this sounded quite destined.

"Hero of the Sixth Era, but for now, I cannot give you the test, because your epic Chapter is not yet complete. Go and defeat that demon, finish your heroic epic of tonight, and when the time comes, I will speak of the test."

"Defeating the demon is what I was meant to do."

Shard tightened his grip on the sword and, to the melody of the bard’s performance, walked towards the low steps leading to the stage.

The main concert hall, where the performance was taking place, was supposed to be brightly lit and splendid. However, as Shard, holding the glowing silver sword, stepped onto the stage, he found that all the lights had gone out, and an impenetrable black mist enveloped the audience seats.

Only a single beam of light remained on the stage, shining on Victor Vanny. Behind him, under the demon’s control, the orchestra was playing the demon’s Chapter with increasing madness.

Occasional flashes of light from the audience represented the ongoing battle. Although the church had not prepared any special relics for dealing with demons tonight, they were quite professional at handling demons.

Even though it had escaped here, the demon’s situation was still dire. Being exposed in front of the church was even more tragic than being hunted by a doctor.

Compared to escaping just now by abandoning a part of its body, Victor Vanny had surprisingly reverted to the form he had when first encountered at the Three Cats Inn. Black sludge continuously converged at his feet, representing the desires being continually siphoned.

"Elegant occasions, petty desires, human thoughts are myriad, but nobles always desire more than common people."

At this moment, there was no sign of his earlier distress; his body kept expanding in the shadows. As the terrifying music reached its climax, his head had already reached the ceiling of the concert hall.

"Sunlight Gun!"

Just then, a clear voice echoed from the audience area shrouded in black mist. In the dark golden glow, Iluna, with a balance suspended above her head, emerged from the mist onto the stage along with Miss Green, the Ten-Ring Sorcerer from the Sun Church, and Mr. Pietro, the Nine-Ring Sorcerer from the Peace Church, who appeared rather young.

The exploding Thunder Spear blasted a large hole in the horrific black silhouette’s chest, but it was quickly completely repaired.

Iluna glanced at Shard, who was holding the sword, subtly nodding at him. She naturally recognized the Night Watchman.

"You’re finished."

Shard looked up at the demon preparing for the final blow, knowing in his heart that this ordeal was over.

Iluna was able to recognize who was on stage at that moment through the Night Watchman. After a brief consideration, the two High Ring Sorcerers from the church also recognized the renowned "God Summoner."

Of course, given that the "God Summoner" had a fairly decent reputation, and the current enemy was a demon, the church’s sorcerers didn’t say much.

They just couldn’t understand why, when tonight’s target was supposed to be a Keeper of Secrets disguised as a bard, a demon had appeared in the city.

"Sunlight Gun!"

"Thunder Spear!"

A gold and silver thunder spear pierced through the demon’s body, but the demon quickly healed and seemed unaffected by the injuries.

In a roar, the demon’s terrifying claw lashed at them, but it was easily evaded. Its real purpose wasn’t to easily "capture" these people. As the claw touched the ground, its entire right arm exploded into black mist, swiftly spreading and completely engulfing the entire stage.

Only those musicians playing the eerie music continued crazily manipulating their instruments, the low, chilling orchestral sound unsettling everyone in the darkness.

"Heaton Seal!"

The black mist separated the group, and in silence, Shard once again drove the sword into the ground. In the next second, Victor Vanny’s phantom emerged outside the shield flowing with golden shimmer, frantically embracing the shield and perishing together with it.

Countless illusions flashed across the dark, and even though the demon was gravely wounded, its power was still beyond human imagination. Those fragmented whispers and murmurs persistently tried to corrupt Shard’s soul.

"Shard!"

Luviya’s transparent figure stood at a distance, mimicking an attempt to embrace Shard.

"Shard!"

Professor Manning, holding a book, seemed to invite Shard to come over and discuss matters with him.

"Shard!"

Detective Sparrow, wearing the pajamas he had on before his death, waved gently at Shard with a soft expression.

The phantoms of his familiar friends appeared around him, tempting Shard to abandon his current resistance.

[Illusion.]

"I know."

Seeing that the phantoms of his friends were ineffective, they retreated into the darkness. Subsequently, shadows of wealth, power, and a multitude of beautiful women appeared in different directions in the darkness like traps. Although the demon exploiting desire couldn’t directly tempt Shard, its power to incite desires and amplify emotions still instinctively made Shard feel uneasy.

He realized his desires were being amplified, though, fortunately as of now, he hadn’t experienced overly intense emotions.
