Chapter 395 - Misfortune

Rhonin raised his head, and his deep green eyes under his thick fiery red hair looked into the distance in confusion.

He had a scar on his nose, inflicted by a fellow apprentice, but regardless of how skillful the perpetrator's technique was, Rhonin had never thought of repairing it.

Even so, Rhonin was not ugly at all - he had a strong and graceful chin and a sharp face. A pair of arched eyebrows made his expression always look ironic and suspicious.

Most people are superficial. Before they understand the inner beauty of another person, they will often deny the other person from the bottom of their hearts because of the bad habits brought about by the appearance association.

Rhonin was treated similarly.

His appearance had caused him trouble in communicating with senior officials more than once. Whenever he tried to ease the situation, his ferocious expression and slightly exaggerated body language could only have a negative impact on the situation.

He was dressed in elegant midnight-blue robes, and his tall, handsome figure was very eye-catching, even to the mages.

Rhoning remained silent, because he had lost five excellent companions in the last mission. For him, who was in prison and waiting for interrogation, any extra words would make the accusations against him more severe.

He stood directly in the center of the room, looking towards the door again, waiting for a wizard to come in from the door and talk to him.

Interrogation, or perhaps a direct verdict from some big shot.

The gate that seemed to be made of solid metal disappeared silently. This was the case with all gates built with magic power, controlled by a magical control program that ordinary mages could not understand. You know, the Kirin Tor Council has used this cage system to imprison many serious criminals in the Violet Prison below Dalaran for hundreds of years.

The sudden light from the gate made Rhoning turn his head and close his eyes slightly. But soon, he opened his eyes and looked straight ahead.

Unexpectedly, the one who came was not the imposing judge and assistants, nor was it Krasus, who was familiar to him and was half his mentor, but a young wizard with a small tuft of snow-white silver hair in his black hair. His hair color did not look dyed, but it did not match his overly young face.

Rhoning looked at the person who came, and it was naturally Duke.

Duke was also looking at Rhonin. He saw a pair of deep green eyes, as calm as a lake before a rainstorm. There was no fear, nor anger or hatred. He could clearly see the ugly scar on Rhonin's nose, and the helplessness behind the seemingly ferocious expression.

Not only that, it was even hard to find anger - this feeling of incongruity made it difficult for Duke to connect the person in front of him with the extremely glorious Kirin Tor Archmage in history.

This was the first time Duke had seen such an expression since he traveled through time. It was the expression that would appear after being abandoned by the teacher, criticized by colleagues, insulted by the world, and almost becoming an enemy of the entire world.

If you are an ordinary person, most of them will hunch over, lower their head, and try to appear humble and pitiful when facing someone in a higher position.

But Rhonin didn't.

From the time he opened the door until now, his posture has been as straight as a pine tree, with neither his chin raised nor his eyes lowered. He just looked straight into Duke's eyes calmly.

right!

Rhoning is not afraid of death, nor is he afraid of questioning. He is just waiting for the result of the trial.

Is it eternal damnation, or... salvation?

"Hello, Rhonin, my name is Edmund Duke, nice to meet you."

Edmund Duke!?

The Dark Gate War, which lasted for a year and a half, had already made Duke's name spread across both continents.

For the first time, Rhonin showed astonishment on his face. Why would such a famous big shot come to see him?

"I'm sorry, please forgive my stupidity, sir. I don't understand how a sinner like me can be of any help to you. Or, aren't you afraid that meeting someone like me will bring misfortune to you?"

Duke smiled.

"If it is really the power of the goddess of doom, perhaps anyone who takes a look at it will suffer misfortune." Duke replied, "But your misfortune is nothing to me, who has been cursed by Sargeras, the leader of the Burning Legion, and only has one month left to live! If you can really bring misfortune, then I should die in front of you right now. Do you want me to count down? Three... two... one... I'm dead... Eh? It seems that I'm not dead yet. It seems that your misfortune is useless to me, so do you want to stay with me for a while and see?"

Rhonin was dumbfounded. He really couldn't follow the thoughts of this big shot in front of him.

He felt that he was about to lose the ability to think. When he was imprisoned by a vicious group of Kirin Tor internal affairs troops and dragged away like a bag of garbage, he thought that this terrible mage career, or even this cursed life, was about to be freed.

But after the door opened, Rhoning found that what he faced was not the result of the trial - execution or destruction of all the magic circuits in his body, and becoming a mortal who could not use magic for the rest of his life, but he was hanging out with a super big shot who should only appear in legends?

Rhonin was a little confused.

Duke rubbed his head and said, "It seems that my signboard is not working! So for the sake of the Alliance, for the sake of all humans, dwarves and high elves, can you do me a favor? This is a very dangerous mission..."

When Duke said this, Rhoning suddenly came to his senses.

Rhonin lowered his head for the first time, then raised it quickly, only a few tears appeared in the corners of his eyes. He shouted at the top of his lungs: "Yes! I am willing to do anything! I don't ask for any merit, as long as I can wash away my sins a little, so that I don't have to think about the faces of the victims' families every night, and make my heart feel better, I am willing even if it means death!"

Duke was startled, then he came to his senses.

The historical process of Azeroth still retains its original inertia. But this is different from the original historical time point. At the original point, when Rhonin ran to save the Red Dragon Queen, it was already after the war ended and he had been imprisoned for a long time. At that time, Rhonin's mood had already calmed down, or he was as disappointed as a dead tree.

But now, it is the time when Rhoning feels the most painful and his conscience is the most condemned after committing the crime.

It was as if he was lost in front of a cliff and couldn't find the way out. When he was venting his inner pain, Duke suddenly stretched out a simple wooden bridge from the other side of the cliff.

Although it looks unstable and despite all kinds of confusion, there is no doubt that this is Rhoning's only salvation at the moment.

Duke lowered his head and sighed: "Rhonin, if you follow me in the future, let me tell you why your magic always gets out of control."
