Chapter 735: Hired to kill

Mission Hall

Jeremy told the staff about his selection. The middle-aged staff member was stunned. He had been confident that Jeremy Night would select an easy mission, but instead, he went for a difficult one.

His expression changed drastically. He eventually recovered his thoughts and turned toward Jeremy.

"The survey mission is not easy," he said. "There could be Tier-5 Beasts in that area. You could easily come across danger. Why don’t you pick one of the top three missions instead?"

Hearing that, Jeremy sneered inwardly. Now he was sure something was wrong with those "easy" missions.

"I’m going to do this mission," he replied firmly.

The staff member’s face darkened upon hearing that. Having no other choice, he registered the mission. He knew the young man’s background and knew he couldn’t show open hostility.

Once the registration was done, Jeremy Night walked away. He left the association building quickly and headed to the Beast Taming Store.

Meanwhile, the middle-aged staff member reported everything to Robert. Robert was surprised; he hadn’t expected the young man to ignore the easy missions.

He realized then that they had underestimated him. The young man might be going to the wilderness to train as well, making the easy missions useless to him.

Robert’s eyes flashed with a glint. He hadn’t expected to miss such a crucial point earlier.

Now that he knew about the kid’s mission, he could still bounce back. He ended the call and immediately hired killers to eliminate Jeremy Night.

He shared the target’s location with the killers. These were not mere thugs; they were professionals. He specifically approached the Darkshade Members because of the nature of the task.

They would leave no clues behind. Even the two Tier-8 Beast Tamers behind the Red Moon Chamber wouldn’t be able to accuse him without evidence.

Robert looked forward to the mission report.

...

Wilderness,

Time passed, and Jeremy Night entered the wilderness at noon. He had bought all the necessary items. After traveling deeper into the wild, he found a secluded place to open his map.

He located the Dark Swamp on the map, situated to the east of the city.

The area beyond that swamp was unexplored territory, so he knew he had to be careful. After memorizing the route, he put the map away in his ring and started his journey.

Jeremy used his enhanced eyesight to avoid a lot of trouble along the way. He came across several Tier-2 and Tier-3 corrupted beasts but decided to reach the mission area first.

He would fight the corrupted beasts after completing the task; right now, he wanted to arrive as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the killers from the Darkshade organisation had already left their hideout. They were now on their way to the Dark Swamp.

Robert Hill had learned about Jeremy Night’s combat strength from Tyson Hill, so he hired five Tier-5 Beast Tamers led by a single Tier-6 Beast Tamer.

Robert knew that Jeremy had killed a Tier-5 Beast Tamer before, but he doubted the kid could stand against a coordinated group.

He believed the Tier-5 man from before had simply let down his guard. If that person had been alert, he would have used his Lifeline Beast to take down the enemy.

The five killers were now closing in on the swamp.

When Robert Hill told his son about the mission, Tyson Hill was on cloud nine. He had wanted to eliminate the boastful Tier-3 Beast Tamer himself earlier.

Now that his father had sent professional killers, he believed the boy would soon be no more. He could finally forget about the humiliation.

...

The Dark Swamp

That evening, Jeremy Night reached the swamp area. As it was getting dark, he knew he couldn’t stay near the water.

The swamp was massive, and he could already feel a dangerous aura emanating from its depths. He decided to wait until morning.

He walked away from the swamp to find a place to stay. As time passed and he found no suitable shelter, his only option was the trees.

He quickly found a huge shade tree and began carving a hole in the trunk to stay in.

One hour later, he was resting inside the tree hole. From there, he could look at the swamp directly. He leaned back and closed his eyes to rest.

On the other hand, the Darkshade Members moved into position. They arrived at the target’s location and hid in various spots.

Jeremy hadn’t used his "second eye" ability yet; otherwise, he would have found their hiding spots instantly.

The Darkshade Members watched Jeremy Night, waiting for the right moment. The Leader told them not to act yet. The Tier-6 Beast Tamer wanted to see if anyone was following the target.

He didn’t know why the higher-ups had given him such an easy mission and suspected there might be a protector hidden nearby. It was the only thing that made sense.

Another hour passed. The Tier-6 Beast Tamer found no one else coming. It was night, and the target was still inside the tree hole, likely waiting for morning.

He sneered. He wasn’t going to waste any more time; he had other important work to do. He ordered the Tier-5 Beast Tamers to act.

Swoosh!

The Tier-5 Beast Tamers emerged from their hideout. One of the five members summoned his Lifeline Beast to attack directly, while the others moved to surround the tree to prevent any escape.

To be honest, everyone was afraid of a potential trump card.

They knew the target was associated with the Red Moon Chamber, and it was normal for such people to carry life-saving items. Those who fought head-on risked facing a lethal counterattack.

Even the Tier-6 leader was cautious. They were criminals; they knew exactly how many of their members had died to unexpected trump cards in the past.

That was exactly why he had ordered his subordinates to attack first. His gaze fixed on the big trees well. His sub-ordinates’ actions didn’t surprise him either.
