Chapter 15: Change of Policy

In contrast to how much money and wealth the other rich families have, five million dollars was nothing to speak of.

Rather, it was a minuscule amount of what Isabella was entitled to inherit.

Truth to be told, that five million wasn’t even what she would receive every year.

Vanessa had long known where the rest of Isabella’s money had gone. Most of them were put into her personal account, which was disguised as Isabella’s to fool the attorney overseeing the handling of the inheritance.

As for why this was done, her father and mother wanted complete control over the money and also to secure what was given to her.

Isabella, on the other hand, was destined to have nothing.

For the past ten years, Isabella hasn’t received even half a million of what she was supposed to get.

That necklace that was given to her? It was purely an accident.

No wonder her mother and father willingly gave it up. It was only so they could take it back!

Vanessa sneered while thinking that Isabella was really stupid. She must’ve thought that her parents were really generous. But what she didn’t know was that all of that was a part of their plan!

The thought that the necklace had to be returned no longer filled her head. She was a bit disappointed, but it was not something she couldn’t live without.

In any case, what mattered to her was that Isabella still wouldn’t get anything from her inheritance. The 5 million dollars she should’ve gotten would still be put in their pockets again.

Feeling relieved and content with the outcome, Vanessa no longer pursued the matter of the necklace. Her mood improved, as seen in how she finished her meal and added more to her plate.

When breakfast was over, the family of three went their separate ways.

Carla visited the Aureve’s only branch in the country early in the morning.

The store had just opened its doors to its customers when she presented the brocade box in front of the teller.

"I want to talk to your manager."

The teller looked at her and then asked with a practiced smile. "The manager is still not in the store."

"When will she be here?"

The teller shook her head. "Usually, she would be here around 9 in the morning. But today, she said there will be a delay."

Having met the manager on the same day she bought the necklace, Carla had long known of this. Actually, it was something most of her friends knew, too. After all, they had waited every single day for an entire week to get a reservation from the manager.

So, the manager’s schedule was no longer a mystery to her.

Yet, a sudden delay just had to happen on the day she was supposed to cancel the transaction.

What was more problematic was that today was also the last day of the transaction. If she couldn’t void the purchase, she could only ask for a refund.

"Can you ask when she would be here?" Carla asked earnestly.

Sensing her urgency, the teller nodded before briskly walking toward the telephone. Soon, it connected, and she asked over the phone.

After a short while, the teller returned.

"Unfortunately, the branch manager didn’t say when. She only said she would come back if she had the time."

Carla gripped the brocade box, her knuckles turning white from anxiety.

Although the branch wasn’t present, the teller should still be able to help her, right?

Carla released her fingers from tucking them into her palms. She pushed the brocade box and asked, "Then, can you void my purchase? I really need to cancel the transaction as soon as possible."

The teller flinched, giving Carla a once-over.

"You want to void your purchase?" the teller repeated, as if she couldn’t fathom that a day like this would happen.

In the three years that this branch opened, this had been the very first time that someone had returned what they bought!

On top of it, the teller could tell that whatever was inside that brocade box was not an ordinary item. It might have never been displayed anywhere in the store!

All of their customers came from wealthy families, famous celebrities, and the wives of politicians. Aureve wasn’t just a common jewelry store; they held second place in the entire world!

Embarrassed by the raw surprise in the teller’s eyes, Carla could only bite her lip as she nodded.

The respect that the teller had shown previously slightly faded. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

"Just wait a moment. I’ll check if it’s still cancelable." The teller walked to the side where the computer was set. She reminded again, "But I’ll have to remind you about our store’s policy. Unless necessary, the bought items cannot be cancelled once the transaction is pending. Refunds are possible, but cancellation isn’t. Once this is done, the customer will be given a warning. Any store of Aureve in the entire world will be informed of your information and blacklist you."

"WHAT?!" Carla was jolted by what she heard. "I remember Aureve didn’t have a policy like this before!"

"That’s right." The teller didn’t deny what she said.

"You’re lying!"

The teller frowned after being shouted at, but she calmly replied, "I have no reason to lie to you."

"Was there really such a policy?"

Inside a room that was adjacent to the store’s main showroom, Isabella glanced at the scene unfolding in front of her with interest.

After breakfast, Isabella left the mansion. She didn’t see Mark, her usual personal driver, outside. But she already expected it after last night’s thief incident.

Unfortunately, her uncle forgot to replace her driver. He didn’t even bother calling Mark back.

Perhaps something had already happened to the driver to silence him.

Hence, without anyone to drive her around, Isabella took this chance to take the cab.

Curious about what Carla planned to do to get the money back, Isabella headed straight to the store and saw what was going to happen. With Julienne’s influence and authority on Aureve, it wasn’t impossible for Isabella to get into the store and stay inside one of its secret lounges.

Of course, this lounge belonged to Julienne only. Hence, there was no need to fight for it with anyone else.

"Of course not." Julienne rolled his eyes; his face was zoomed on the video call. "It’s just a short notice I came up with when you came over last time."
