Chapter 16: Transaction

"Is this really okay?" Isabella asked, knowing fully well that doing this would notify his family about his actions.

"It should be fine. Mother will be mad I used the branch here whimsically, but once I tell her it’s for you, she won’t say a word!" Julienne chuckled.

"..." Isabella refrained from responding.

Sighing, she looked at the screen showing the full happenings inside the store.

The room was made for Julienne’s office. His mother, Charlotte Monet, precisely had this room isolated solely for her son in case he suddenly had a flash of new design ideas. Only Julienne had access to it.

But what she didn’t know was that her son was using the room to entertain both him and Isabella.

"So, what do you want me to do?" Julienne asked. "Do you want me to cancel or proceed with the transaction?"

The transaction should have gone through the moment Carla purchased the necklace. However, the moment Julienne received a notification that his necklace had been bought, he quickly told the headquarters to hold the transaction first.

Of course, this would have some problems in itself. But Julienne had a wider connection and used it to keep the transaction pending.

In addition, a large sum of transaction would need a bank’s approval code. To ensure that the purchase wasn’t made through fraud.

All in all, things worked the way Julienne wanted.

But all of this wouldn’t have happened if Isabella hadn’t told him what to do.

"Proceed with the transaction," Isabella told him, keeping her eyes focused on Carla, who was on another screen.

***

Time stretched, the clock ticking as Carla’s nerves went overdrive.

"I don’t believe you..." Carla mumbled as she took her phone out to check Aureve’s official website.

If she checked now, she might still be able to find that the policy hasn’t changed one bit on their website.

Except, when she had just pressed on her search tab, a notification window suddenly slid across half of her screen. A message had been sent to her.

It was from her husband

[Husband: What the hell happened? Why did the transaction get through?!]

A screenshot of the bank’s email and mobile message was pinned after his words. It said that the transaction had been authorized and settled.

As if an ice bucket had been thrown at her, Carla felt her entire body chilled. Her feet took a couple of steps away from the counter as she almost stumbled after seeing her husband’s message.

Soon, her husband called.

However, Carla didn’t pick it up.

Her eyes were glued to the screen, showing how their plans fell apart.

"I—I want a refund." Carla quickly thought of doing this while her husband’s call was ringing in the background.

The teller didn’t try to stop it and proceeded with the refund.

"We’ll refund the amount you paid. However, please do be reminded that we will have to take charges for the return fee, the shipping fee, and the insurance fee. This should’ve already been included in the contract when you bought the item."

"And how... how much is that?" Carla could hear the beating of her heart in her ears.

There was indeed a contract given to her after she received the necklace.

"The return fee alone would be around 5-20 percent to cover this."

"5 to 20?!"

"That’s right," the teller nodded. "But that depends on the item’s price. Since it’s a ten-million-dollar purchase... the return fee should be right about... 1.5 million or 2 million."

"Why?! Why would there be such a huge amount to pay?" Carla pushed herself forward, leaning half her body on the counter. "That’s 2 million! You’re taking 2 million from what I paid?"

But what Carla forgot was that this was a perfectly normal fee for refunds. Especially, there was no valid reason for her refund, and the item was a one-of-a-kind necklace. The store would be able to resell it, but it would no longer have the same value as before.

That, of course, would still depend on Aureve and how they would resell it. Isabella thought as she looked at Julienne, who was feeding his koi fish.

If it were revealed that it was the genius jeweler, Julienne Monet, who made it, people would definitely buy it. Doubling the amount wouldn’t even be impossible.

She knew the only reason the necklace didn’t become a sensation was that Julienne didn’t publicly announce its creation. Otherwise, would Carla be able to buy the necklace so cheaply and easily?

"Why don’t I just let Elise tell that deranged woman that a new policy came out? A no-cash refund?" Julienne suggested with a wide grin.

Her eyebrow curled up. Isabella smiled, tempted by his recommendation.

But she ultimately shook her head.

If Julienne did that, his mother would take the next flight immediately and come to this country just to hand him a slap.

Their family business was not for him to play with. And even with permission from his mother, Isabella didn’t want to further take advantage of or keep receiving their help.

Isabella didn’t want to ruin Aureve’s reputation for her revenge.

Seeing her refuse, Julienne also didn’t force it. He was just happy to relieve his boredom while being able to help her.

"I—is there really no other way?" Carla’s voice spoke again, clear and loud inside the private office.

"Unfortunately, we can only offer the refund in this way. You also agreed to this on the day of purchase when you received the contract." The teller was very patient with her, but it won’t be long before it runs out.

The store had already opened its doors. Customers who had the money to buy would soon come in.

So, there was no time to waste.

Carla’s face went pale, and sweat gathered on her forehead. Her pretty and chubby face trembled as her body shook with complex emotions.

She didn’t even know what to feel right now.

All she knew was that her husband would kill her because of this.
