The Billionaire Can't Escape His Shameless Heiress Wife!-Chapter 19: Her Unfettered Gaze
His eyes stayed locked on her.
Yet, Isabella was unaware of it.
Her thoughts were a jumbled mess. A thorn kept on throbbing and tugging on her chest as his words pierced him with another.
Who was it for? The question stayed hanging on her tongue, remained hidden and unheard. She wanted to shake him and demand an answer. But she knew it was unlikely she’d get an answer from him.
Not when they’re barely anything to each other.
No. When she’s nothing more than a stranger whom he had met twice.
That may not be true on her part. But to Kaelian, that was precisely the number of times she appeared in front of him.
So, like an expert in hiding her emotions, Isabella swiftly wiped away the downcast emotion she was feeling and replaced it with a bright smile.
Just like that, she knew she had once again perfected her mask.
"Would you like me to recommend some for you?"
Despite the cover-up, Isabella couldn’t stop her curiosity. A woman’s jealousy has no end. And right now, she was simmering with envy, knowing that someone special would be receiving jewelry from Kaelian.
How laughable...
She received a necklace from her uncle, who unknowingly gave something they thought was priceless.
Yet, Isabella would trade that necklace for anything Kaelian could give her.
She stared at him, waiting for his answer. Yet she also couldn’t stop wishing that time would stay still, allowing her to prolong their close proximity.
Unfortunately, no lamp was rubbed, and no genie came out to grant her wish as she heard him respond.
"Hm." His hum was low, a response coming from his chest.
Only then did Isabella reluctantly avert her eyes from him to shift it towards the counters and the shelves where the jewelry was enclosed.
The thought of picking the man who dwelled in her heart and memories, a jewelry he wanted to give to another, stirred yet another thorn in her chest.
Despite that, Isabella didn’t sabotage whoever it was or try to make a fool of Kaelian by picking out something undesirable.
She turned to Kaelian once again.
"What type of jewelry are you going to buy?"
Kaelian tapped his cane again.
He remembered that his niece had just gotten her ears pierced.
"Earrings."
Hearing this, Isabella shifted her gaze back to the area where the diamond earrings were being stored.
She walked and looked down at it.
However, she didn’t find anything that she thought was good.
Suddenly, the teller came out from the back. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
Seeing Isabella stand before the counter, the teller immediately placed a box in front of her.
With a raised eyebrow, Isabella inquired silently what it was.
The teller lowered her voice, trying not to let anyone else hear them. "Sir Julienne got this as a gift for you."
Isabella nodded.
Several steps away from them, Kaelian watched them silently.
Opening the box, Isabella was stunned at the sight of a full set of jewelry. All of which are made of white gold and diamonds.
A pair of earrings was included in it.
A sudden inspiration struck her, and she waved her hand to gesture for Kaelian to follow her when she remembered he couldn’t see.
She wondered if describing the earrings was enough.
Wouldn’t it be a problem if he can’t tell what he’s trying to buy?
With that thought, she moved back to him and raised her eyes to look at him.
"Can I touch your hand?"
When she talked to him, her eyes would always find where his were. Almost as if she were treating him as if he weren’t blind.
But of course, Kaelian knew that his secret of not being blind was kept so tightly that only three other people knew about it.
Ever since he became blind, people started to avoid looking at his eyes. It was as if their consciences wouldn’t allow them to look at him and be reminded of his perfect self.
As if it would trigger something inside them that would make them dislike his current, blind self.
But this woman didn’t shy away from him.
Her eyes opened up to him like a swirling gathering of stars.
That unfettered gaze of hers was still there.
It reflected his entire being.
"Don’t worry, I won’t touch you more than necessary."
Behind his sunglasses, Kaelian’s eyes narrowed with wariness. He could tell her no, and this play would end here. She wouldn’t get the chance to act with him on the stage again. And the truth behind her actions will never be revealed to him.
Most importantly, a bit of his secret would also be revealed to her.
She would know that he knew it was her. Although it would take time, in the end, the result was the same.
Kaelian took his time to reply. The thought of someone touching him after the accident made his nerves come alive like a live wire.
All his senses heightened as he was prepared to take her down if she so much as did something that would harm him.
Yet, like that time at the party, he allowed her to touch him.
Which, by itself, came as a surprise to him.
Especially when her fingers honestly pinched the sleeve of his cuff, gently pulling him forward to lead him to where she wanted.
She barely touched him. No skin contact. Only by his sleeve.
Though she was the one leading, it felt like she was a lost and confused child in need of some adult to hold on to.
White-knuckles tight on his sleeve, she led him to a counter.
The teller, who was behind it, only watched as they approached her.
Then, Isabella let her hand rest in the air, palm out, as the teller quickly gave her a key.
Once the key was in her hand, Isabella let him go and opened the box.
Inside it was a pair of beautiful drop earrings.
Kaelian’s eyebrows jerked once, almost imperceptibly.
