The Billionaire Can't Escape His Shameless Heiress Wife!-Chapter 21: Unreasonable
If there was one thing that Kaelian learned from the past year he pretended to be blind, people were too devious and deceiving.
Even if you were to have eyes, people would still find ways to be two-faced and backstab you.
But when you’re blind, no matter if it was in front of or behind you, no one would care to pretend when insulting, gossiping, and hurting you.
He had seen a lot of people do this. The maids in the family house, the employees at the company, and even family members... All of them had done some things that made him see the disgusting truth.
A maid had given him clothes that had some holes.
An employee made a mistake on an important file and gave it to him to sign.
A family member dropped the ash from his cigarette on his drink.
These couldn’t even finish the list of things people had done when he regained his sight. Now, think about what they had done when he first lost it.
Each time, he had avoided a calamity. A few he barely came out alive.
Yet, in spite of his ongoing mistrust, like a rustling wind breezing over a tree, Isabella had shown him that there were people who might not be so deceiving after all.
But this was just his thoughts. He was still suspicious of her intentions and what the Harrington family wanted by sending someone to take his life.
Dropping his hand to his side, Kaelian stepped back, pulling away from Isabella.
"I’ll buy the earrings," he finally said.
"But you said..." Isabella trailed off, wondering what made him change his mind.
He was a weird one. Why would he buy something that stung him just now? And didn’t he clearly say he didn’t like it?
"How much is it?"
Isabella couldn’t question why he suddenly wanted to buy it. She turned to Elise, who held her fingers to her, signing how much the earrings cost.
Getting the answer from her, Isabella announced, "200,000."
The room suddenly turned as quiet as the night.
Behind the counter, Elise’s eyes widened so large as saucers. Her jaws pried open and slacked into a huge ’O’ the moment Isabella had uttered the price for the earrings.
Didn’t she sign that it was two million? How did it become tenfold less than its original price?!!
Elise signed again. She used her fingers to tell Isabella how much and added it with the movement of her mouth, whispering without releasing a tiny sound.
"Really?"
Kaelian also showed a bit of skepticism. He had seen how the teller had largely signed behind the counter. He already knew it was worth two million. And as far as he could remember, the minimum price of jewelry made by Auvere was at least two hundred thousand dollars.
The earrings were spectacular and a good pair. There was no way it was worth that much.
But even as the teller repeated it, Isabella’s answer remained unchanged. "Yes. 200,000."
A question appeared in his head. Why was she lowering the price so drastically? What is she doing this for?
Kaelian was confident that the accident hadn’t ruined his face. He still gathered admiring looks everywhere. But he didn’t think that Isabella was doing all of this because of him.
One, they barely knew each other.
Two, if she wanted to get close to him, pretending to be a store employee was not the right thing to do.
Lastly, there was no reason for her to do this.
Even if it was a plan set by the Harrington family, why would they waste money on someone they wanted dead?
As for doing this because of how he looked, Kaelian thought that would be too stupid and biased. Wasting money on someone who can’t see you. Isn’t that being foolish?
Moreover, if it was truly because of that. Doesn’t that mean she wastes money on a regular basis just because of someone’s good looks?
Doesn’t seem reasonable at all.
After analyzing what was going on in her mind and still coming short of an answer, Kaelian found that this ’Isabella Harrington’ was full of complexity. She was like a puzzle he had finally put into place, only to find that a corner was missing some pieces.
"Is it too expensive for you?"
Her question dragged him back from his thoughts.
Isabella had waited long for his reply, but hearing nothing from him, she started to doubt him. Was two hundred thousand too expensive for him?
But isn’t he a member of the Veyron family, a family of near-regal stature just missing a crown? Money shouldn’t be a problem for him.
Or could it be...
A sudden realization hit her.
Isabella quickly wanted to rectify her words and lessen the price of the earrings again. However, this time, before she could say anything, Kaelian beat her to it and produced a black card.
"I’ll pay."
Isabella stared at his card and uttered, "Oh."
A little disappointed she couldn’t give him a discount, Isabella was about to take his card when she suddenly had an idea.
"I’m sorry, but the card reader isn’t working today." Isabella lied with a straight face, though her eyes lit up. "You can pay cash and WePay."
She felt guilty for doing this, but if she doesn’t take this chance now... when would she?
Of course, she wouldn’t try anything and harass him after getting his phone number.
Just the thought that she had his number in her contact list would be enough!
Her words tumbled out of her lips so fast and eloquently that even Isabella thought she was believable. He wouldn’t catch her lie.
By the time he remembered he could transfer the money through other mobile fund transfers, she would’ve gotten his number already!
As she rejoiced in her plan and smiled to herself for being smart, Isabella didn’t notice the silver gleam in Kaelian’s eyes.
Or the slight curl of the corner of his lips.
