When morning came, the sweet scent of roses filled the air. Harlow’s nose twitched slightly at the familiar fragrance, her favorite. She took a deep breath, a small smile tugging at her lips.

"You’re awake."

Her eyes fluttered open at the sound of the deep, familiar voice.

"I’ve prepared your bathwater. You should freshen up now."

She blinked up at Alanis, her heart skipping a beat as she took in the sight before her. He stood there, shirtless, wearing nothing but black trousers that hung loosely around his waist. Droplets of water trickled down his toned chest as he used a towel to dry his damp hair.

"What are you looking at?" Alanis suddenly asked, catching her staring.

Harlow quickly averted her gaze, her heart racing. She shouldn’t be reacting this way, it was too early, and she refused to let him win this little game of his.

Alanis was clearly on a mission to seduce her, but she wouldn’t fall for it. Not now, not ever.

"Walking around half-naked is not part of our agreement," she said firmly, sitting up in bed.

"There’s no part of the agreement that says I can’t wear my trousers," Alanis replied with an infuriating smirk. "Besides, I’m not naked."

"Imagine if my breasts were out in the open, and I paraded around the room like..." She abruptly stopped, regretting her choice of words the moment his smirk widened. The very smirk she hated so much.

"My... My... My silly wife having naughty thoughts again." He mused.

"You have nothing to worry about, I’ll tell you what I’ll do if I see you in that state. I’d have to pin you to the bed and fuck the living hell out of you, woman."

Harlow’s face turned crimson. She gasped, utterly scandalized. She felt exposed. Never in her life had she expected Alanis to be this shameless.

"Have some shame, Alanis!" she scolded.

"Why?" he shrugged. "I only imagined it, like you asked me to. Besides, it’s not like I haven’t seen all of you before."

Her cheeks burned even more. Furious, she grabbed a pillow and hurled it at him.

"You’re shameless, Alanis Hamilton!" she yelled.

"Of course," he said smoothly, catching the pillow with ease. "Shameless is my middle name, my villain."

That damn smile. The one that reached his eyes. The one that made her heart beat faster despite herself. Alanis was out for her, she’ll never give him what he wants. Never.

Before she could throw another pillow at him, a knock came from the door.

"Come in, Beaver," Alanis said, sounding annoyed. This is why he hated butlers and housekeepers, they always interrupted the best part of his life.

The doorknob turned, and an older man stepped inside. Harlow stared at him in confusion. Since when did they have a new servant in the mansion?

Then it hit her.

This wasn’t their usual bedroom.

Her gaze darted around the space. The room was massive, far bigger than the one she usually woke up in. The decor was different, too. More luxurious.

Her breath caught in her throat.

Could it be?

Was this the mansion she had asked Alanis to change?

No. That was impossible. He couldn’t have redecorated an entire mansion in just three days. That wasn’t humanly possible.

"Good morning, Master," Beaver greeted, though Alanis barely spared him a glance. He looked like he wanted to murder the poor man for interrupting his morning.

Grandma is yelling and threatening us master, even if we have told her countless times that she isn’t kidnapped. She said she wants to see you two to be sure." Beaver said.

They have done everything to appease the old woman but she just wouldn’t give up. She was ruining the entire place, accusing them of kidnapping her and threatening to kill them if they didn’t release her.

Beaver didn’t know what else to do, he didn’t mean to disturb his master and madam.

Alanis sighed in irritation. "Keep her busy with something."

"But sir, she might actually hurt someone."

"Then we’ll treat the person," Alanis replied coldly. ƒreewebɳovel.com

Harlow shot him a glare. "Where is she? I’ll talk to her."

"In the lounge."

Without another word, she got out of bed and followed Beaver. She had no idea why Alanis insisted on being so heartless toward the people working for him.

As she walked through the hallway, Harlow’s jaw dropped. The entire mansion looked breathtaking. The decor was even more stunning than she had imagined.

She still couldn’t believe Alanis had managed to transform everything in such a short time.

This wasn’t just a mansion anymore.

It was a castle. Her little castle. The castle she had always dreamed of.

Her heart swelled with warmth. Alanis had done this for her. He had turned her dream into reality, yet again.

Despite his wickedness and bad uncouth tongue, he was sweet in his own way. And she was starting to realize just how much he had sacrificed for her. Before she could dwell on the thought, a loud shriek snapped her back to reality.

"No, stay away from me! I’m warning you, I’ll kill you!"

Harlow turned the corner and found the source of the commotion.

Charlotte Hamilton.

The elderly woman was standing on top of the kitchen counter, waving a wooden spoon threateningly at the maids below.

"You said you have my grandson and granddaughter-in-law? Where are they?! Bring them to me!"

"Grandma, please calm down," a maid pleaded. "We mean no harm. We just want to take care of you, as instructed."

Harlow’s eyes widened in disbelief.

How on earth had Charlotte even gotten up there?

She was old, but she was still strong, impressively so.

Beaver sighed. "There she is."

Harlow stifled a laugh. "Grandma," she called gently.

Charlotte finally turned her gaze toward her. Her eyes widened. "Harlow? Is that you?"

"It’s me, Grandma." Harlow smiled.

Charlotte hesitated. "Where are we? Have we been kidnapped? These people tried to kill me, Harlow!"

Harlow couldn’t help but laugh.

She had felt the exact same way when she first arrived here. And now, looking back, she felt so ashamed for ever thinking Alanis would harm her.

"No, Grandma," she reassured her. "This is our new home."

Charlotte still looked skeptical.

"Come down before you get hurt," Harlow urged, extending her hands.

After a moment, Charlotte reluctantly took them. With the help of the maids and butler, they carefully helped her down from the counter.

Once she was safely on the ground, Charlotte narrowed her eyes. "Where is Alanis?"

"In the bedroom," Harlow answered. "But first, let the maids clean you up. After that, we’ll all have breakfast together, okay?"

Charlotte huffed but didn’t argue.

Harlow sighed in relief.

One crisis down.

Now, she just had to deal with the other troublemaker waiting for her upstairs.

After helping Charlotte to her room, Harlow went back to the master bedroom to get changed, but Alanis was no longer in the room. Harlow sighed picking a rose from the roses from the pile in the room as she inhaled the sweet scent.

She walked into the bathroom only to be greeted by a large tub filled with water to its brim. Alanis had already added a few soaps, and rose petals scattered around the tub.

Harlow took off her clothes gently and stepped inside the tub. She bit on her lower lips as the water touched her skin, relaxing her tensed muscles.

This was all she needed, a nice warm bath after the stress she went through the previous day.

After bathing, Harlow stepped out of the room in a white floral dress. Her red hair flowed to her back, dangling as she walked down the stairs.

"Madam, breakfast is this way," Beaver said calmly gesturing his hands to the door and she followed suit. Beaver led her to the garden where a round table was set with a variety of dishes sprawled across the table. Alanis and Charlotte were already seated at the table, barely eating anything.

"Good morning Grandma," Harlow said picking a seat. She ignored the man seated across from her.

"Good morning my dear," Charlotte said with a smile. Harlow has proven herself trustworthy over the week and she finally realizes why she has picked her for her son. She knew her judgment wouldn’t be stupid.

"It was the best." Charlotte passed over a plate of toasted bread and fruits to her.

"You should eat more my dear, it’ll make your babies healthy." Charlotte beamed. Charlotte knew Claudia was pregnant with her great-grandchild but she needed to see Alanis’s children before she died. She knew her granddaughter-in-law would produce beautiful great-grandchildren for her.

Charlotte didn’t wait for Harlow to respond before saying, "This beautiful mansion is the best place to raise my grandchildren, you did great Alanis." Charlotte praised him.

"Tell me when we’re moving in completely?"

"We’ve already moved in," Alanis responded as he threw the freshly cut tomato in his mouth.

"I never agreed to such."

"We made an agreement."
