Chapter 22 - 21 - Punishment

"What were the two of you even thinking? Fighting against each other without anyone to supervise the duel! One of you could have died if something went wrong. You are both very powerful students in our academy. You have to be a lot more careful in the way you interact with each other."

The person talking was the director of the Demonic Academy, and surprisingly, he was not anyone that Caliste knew from his past life.

In fact, he didn't look old at all. He seemed to be in his thirties at most. He had short brown hair and blue eyes, and his skin looked peerless at a glance.

'How did he achieve becoming the headmaster of the greatest academy in the world at such a young age?' Caliste thought with a frown.

"Do any of you have something to say to defend yourselves?"

Fleur just looked down as she endured the shouting. However, Caliste didn't share the same opinion.

"It's my fault, sir. I'm the one who taunted and prompted many students into fighting me. I was just trying to show everyone that I also deserved my place in this prestigious academy and that I was not only chosen because of my background."

Caliste nodded.

"I wanted to make sure that everyone knew that I was not here by chance and that I was stronger than all of them."

The headmaster frowned at that response and did not say anything, just staring into Caliste's eyes.

'He has guts, and he did the right thing back then. However, I can't let this go without any punishment.'

The headmaster shook his head as he opened his mouth.

"While your reasons might not be senseless, it's still unacceptable. The two of you will have to attend detention every night for the first month of this semester. Every day after class, you will have to meet for detention, where you will undergo special care from one of our teachers." The headmaster smirked. "I'm sure he'll be more than happy to learn that he will have newcomers in his class."

Fleur's eyes widened as Caliste shrugged.

This detention would make it easier for him to get closer to Fleur, which was one of the things he wanted to achieve above all else.

"Are we free to go now?" Caliste suddenly asked with a shrug.

It showed in his attitude that he did not care about the punishment in the slightest.

"Yes. Please remember to be mindful of your actions in the future. I hope I was very clear on that subject. If you want to fight, you need to have a professor watching over it."

Caliste and Fleur nodded as they stood up and bowed. "Understood, we'll make sure that it doesn't happen again."

The two of them then went out of the headmaster's office, and right as they did so, Fleur hit Caliste on the shoulder.

"Tsk, why did you act so arrogantly? Because of you, we have to go to detention every day!"

Caliste shook his head. "It would have happened anyway. He has to give us some form of punishment for the damage we caused. This punishment is extremely light because we are the top students."

"But... what about training?"

"Who knows? Maybe we will have the chance to train together during this punishment."

Fleur clicked her tongue.

She didn't like this situation at all.

She was known as the perfect student. She had never gotten into any trouble before. But now, as soon as Caliste showed up, here she was... already meeting with the headmaster.

If this continued, things were bound to get worse.

"Also, can I ask about something?" Fleur suddenly said as she looked away from Caliste, blushing.

"Sure."

"So, back at the restaurant, I just want to know why you were so furious about what my father said. Your dad is literally the Demon King. Shouldn't you be praising him for the deal he made with the heroes of the past?"

Caliste sighed. "I just don't think that everything is as black and white as everyone is saying. Also, I've only seen my father once in all of my childhood, and when I did, he disrespected my mother right in front of me. For all I care, he can burn in hell."

Caliste's voice was ice cold. He did not care if he sounded cruel or irrational. He spoke his mind.

"But why do you say so? Everyone says that they saved the world. Why are you against that fact?"

"Look... I just have my opinions. You can have yours. That's just how things are."

Fleur nodded as she noticed that Caliste was walking in a certain direction within the school's halls.

"Where are you going anyway?" she asked with a slight frown, trying to catch up to his walking speed.

"The library."

"Why?"

"Because I need to do some research on some things."

She frowned even more. "Is it about the past?"

Caliste shrugged, starting to be slightly annoyed. "Maybe... why do you want to know so much anyway?"

"Mhm. Can I come with you?"

Another sigh left Caliste's mouth. "Sure, but don't expect me to talk to you about what I do."

Fleur smiled, not caring about such things in the slightest.

She was very interested in why Caliste had said those things back then. He just looked so furious, convinced that what her father was saying had been pure manipulated lies. Fleur had a feeling that Caliste knew a lot more than he let on.

A few minutes passed as Fleur continued to talk to Caliste, but they had finally made it to the library.

'Wow. This is actually impressive.'

It was gigantic. There were books everywhere, so many that it was hard for Caliste to know where he was supposed to look for the information that he wanted.

After all, the main reason why he was here was to find out more about what had happened to Diana after the end of the war.

'Where am I supposed to even start...'
