The Fallen Hero Reincarnates as the Demon King's Son-Chapter 9 - 8 - Show of Courage
Chapter 9 - 8 - Show of Courage
The Demon King continued to smile at me as he noticed that I was still not backing down.
'This boy really isn't scared of me. How strange... should I make it a little harder on him?' the Demon King suddenly thought as he began pressuring Caliste through the use of mana.
He didn't start with much, especially since he knew that the boy's physical body was weak. With the amount he used, any person with corrupted mana circuits would have felt crushed, unable to even stand.
But even now, there was only one small change in Caliste.
He was shaking a little.
'Hm, he really wants to resist, doesn't he?' He smiled as he began increasing the pressure. 'Let's see how you can fare against that.'
Instantly, the mana pressure doubled in the span of seconds. But even then, Caliste stood his ground, his jaw clenching, his whole body trembling.
"What are you doing? Stop this! Can't you see that he's hurting!"
Ava tried her best to make the Demon King stop. But it was clear that he didn't have any respect for the mother of his child.
He continued as he could see Caliste's body gradually faltering.
'His willpower really is on another level.' The Demon King shook his head as the memory of a stubborn human entered his mind. 'He reminds me of that crazy son of a bitch.'
The Demon King flashed a smile just thinking about it. 'He really was a pain in the ass. But things were a lot more entertaining with him around. But alas, everyone he trusted turned on him, losing faith in his abilities.'
"You have good willpower. But that's all you have," the Demon King said without emotion as he doubled his mana output once more.
This time, Caliste's legs gave out as he fell to his knees. But even then, he held his head straight, not giving up.
"Argh..."
Pain was heard for the first time.
Then, blood spurted from his mouth, dirtying the Demon King's shoes, and Caliste lost consciousness.
"CALISTE!" Both Aleia and Ava screamed at the very same time, running as fast as they could toward him.
They held him as tears dropped from their eyes.
"What were you thinking..." Ava whispered, tears falling onto her son's body.

However, she had seen the anger in her son's eyes as he looked at the Demon King. It was the first time in Ava's life that she had seen such hatred in the eyes of someone.
Caliste looked as if he wanted to blow the head off his body.
Ava caressed his hair and smiled tenderly.
'You didn't have to do this for me... I'm the one that's supposed to protect you.'
"Is this really our boy?" the Demon King suddenly asked with a frown as he looked at Caliste's unconscious body. 'The more I look at him, the more he makes me realize that bastard.'
Ava nodded slowly. "H-He is..."
"What name did you give him?"
Ava didn't reply as she continued to take care of her son.
The Demon King shook his head with a frown. "Are you also feeling courageous now that your son stood up to me? Stupid woman."
Ava gritted her teeth.
"Caliste..." she whispered.
"Louder."
"His name is Caliste. You would have known that if you had stayed around."
The Demon King furrowed his brows, rage bubbling up inside him. "You named our child after him?"
Ava didn't reply.
She knew that the Demon King was about to be furious. However, what was done... was done. There was nothing he could do to change it.
"Hmpf, and you want to stay here. You fucking traitorous bitch. You're a disgrace to all demons. You're lucky you have a great body."
He suddenly snapped his fingers.
A mystical energy suddenly disappeared from Caliste's body.
"Let me make this clear before I leave. I didn't help because you came to see me." He shook his head. "It's the opposite. I helped you because of him. Because of what he did, standing against me. It's been a while since anyone had the guts to do something like this." The Demon King sighed once more. "He has potential. Make sure not to ruin it like you did with Cody. Otherwise, I'll have to take care of him."
Ava opened her mouth but closed it right away as she heard the name Cody.
"You're a monster..." she whispered in such a low tone that it was barely audible to anyone around.
But she was facing the Demon King; he heard her words very clearly.
"A monster? Maybe, who cares? Everyone in the world worships me. They all respect me. As for you, you're just a bitch that looks good. That's it. You're nothing special."
Ava kept her mouth shut, looking down.
The Demon King smirked and turned around.
"Oh, and Aleia, it was nice to see you again. You should come see your brother and me a little more."
Aleia kept her head down, not even daring to look into her father's eyes. She didn't even bother responding. She knew the type of person her father was, and never in a million years would she support him.
-Swoosh!
The Demon King disappeared like a gust of wind, leaving the unconscious Caliste in the arms of Aleia and Ava, who were deeply concerned.
"At least he didn't ask for anything this time..."
However, Ava shook her head. She knew what that meant, and it was much more than whatever they could have ever given him.
He had taken a liking to Caliste.
Soon enough, he would come and take him away from them. Ava didn't doubt it for a second.
"Maids, bring him to my room and make sure that everything is fine with him."
The maids who had stood still watching the scene were surprised to see that Ava was asking for their help.
"Move your asses. It's about time you do something around here. You are maids; you are not the ones in control."
Ava frowned at one maid in particular, the chief maid.
She had had enough of all this drama. It was about time to restore things to how they used to be.
Caliste had showed her what courage was, and she would never forget it from now on.
