THE GOD EATER-Chapter 181: Spear And Shield.
What he did wasn’t personal at all. He had done what he did just to survive. It was as if he had simply reached out to kill a mosquito that had been bothering him.
But now, things had become personal. This was because not only had Loki dared to resist and fight back, but also because Loki had actually damaged his precious ship.
As Loki saw the Mech rise into the air and fly straight towards him, he smirked and said to himself, "He must be truly angry now. After all, he was already attached to the ship long before it actually fell into his hands and became his."
He was amused, but he didn’t underestimate the combination of Greg and the mech. His eyes gleamed with the Power Identification Ability as he tried to gauge the power of the threat and decide what to do to neutralize it.
He directly dropped the idea of using ranged weaponry. Both the Gatling guns, the rail guns, and the wing blades were eliminated because they were not going to be powerful enough.
This is also one of the reasons why Greg didn’t use his missiles. The missiles and grenades wouldn’t be amplified by the Power Coupling Core, so he didn’t think they would be powerful enough to deal after he saw how easily Loki had dealt with the cannonball.
But there was also the fact that Loki was capable of redirecting projectiles back to their source. He had never heard of a way to do something like that, and he didn’t know how Loki did it, but he knew that he didn’t want his missiles to be returned to him, so he wanted to rely on something that could surely do the job of killing Loki.
As his mech got closer to Loki, he felt the rate of his energy consumption spike by 100%. This was essentially doubling his energy consumption per second.
This was unexpected because he hadn’t activated anything new or engaged in battle yet, but he couldn’t worry about why he was bleeding more energy than normal when the fight was about to start.
With his course of action determined, he controlled the two right arms of the mech to grab one compressed spear each. These compressed spears looked like clubs. But when they were activated, they elongated into two large spears.
The mech thrust one spear at Loki. The other spear followed the first one but attacked a beat later and attacked at a tricky angle.
This arrangement was to put Loki in a difficult situation and catch him off guard. This way, Loki might be able to block the first attack, but he won’t be able to block the second attack.
However, things didn’t turn out how Greg expected them to be. This was because the power of his attack was 3(Status) × 3(Telekinesis Metac) × (4(Body) + 4(Mech) + 3(Floating Furnace) + (90% Energy Well)) × (3(Body Lever) + 3(Living Armament) + 3(Energy Amplifier) +3(Living Fire)) × (300% Overdrive), which is 3,855 units.
This kind of power was more than double what Loki was able to output, so the first attack was all that was needed to overwhelm Loki.
Loki had created a shield on his left hand with the Shifting Armor, which he used to block the spear. But because the power of the attack was too great, the shield smashed into his chest, and the spear shot him back by force.
Loki was sent flying, so the second spear missed him and struck empty air. Meanwhile, the force of that first attack still wreaked damage on the armor.
If not for the fact that the Shifting Armor was at rank 5 and was highly durable, the spear would have broken the shield and penetrated his body.
Fortunately, the Shifting Armor was very durable and had an energy shield on its surface. In order to protect him, the energy shield worked together with the physical armor to absorb the power of the attack and nullify it by hardening.
The energy shield and the physical armor succeeded, but they consumed a lot of energy in the process. The energy they consumed was 3,855 minus 1,620, which is 2,235.6 units.
Loki could tell of these even as he was sent tumbling through the air. 2,235.6 units of energy for a single attack is a lot of energy for a rank 3 cultivator, seeing as a rank 3 Metac usually consumes 1,000 units of energy per minute. But he didn’t care about this loss of energy.
This was because his total energy capacity is 921,600 units, while the total energy capacity of someone like Greg is 2^11 × 90, which is 184,320 units, and the total energy capacity of a rank 3 cultivator with an energy well the size of 50 units is 2^11 × 50, which is 102,400 units.
So 2,235.6 units of energy might be a lot for other rank 3 cultivators in the thick of battle. But this kind of energy loss is insignificant to him when his rank 4 metacs are consuming about 100,000 units of energy per unit.
He was so carefree that he smiled and said to himself, "Even if I stop regenerating energy, I can handle 411 more of those attacks."
"Of course, I shouldn’t let that happen. I shouldn’t let myself become a punching bag."
He stopped smiling and became solemn as he said, "It seems it is time to take things up a notch."
As he made this decision, his two feet crashed into the ground. He willed it, and spikes grew from the part of his armor at the soles of his feet. These spikes dug into the ground and granted him the friction needed to stop moving backwards.
He halted his backward momentum, but Greg wasn’t going to give him peace. The mech had chased after him when he was sent flying, so by stopping now, he allowed the mech to catch up to him early.
