Chapter 153: 153:The Sudden Turn

"But..." Carol paused, then looked away. "Sorry, I can’t talk about them."

Kael’s expression changed in an instant. His eyes turned dark like black hole.It was so hollow and deep they looked like an abyss. Carol felt a chill run through her and raised her hands.

"Wait! It’s not that I don’t want to tell you," she said quickly, "I just can’t, not now..."

"Why?" Kael asked, his voice low and sharp.

"Because I took an oath," Carol replied.

Kael frowned. "You said you came here after getting injured, right?"

Carol nodded slowly.

"Then how do you even know about them?"

Carol looked down. "I didn’t die right away. I stayed alive for a while. Many came to see me. Some of them were your girls too."

Kael’s expression froze for a moment. His mind clicked. His face twisted as a sudden thought hit him like thunder.

Dragon meat, dragon scales... especially the heart—none of them vanish that easily. They don’t rot or turn to dust. They stay behind for years... maybe even thousands. There was even a place once, turned into a forbidden zone, because a dragon died there. Even after 5,000 years, its body was still there.

Kael stared at Carol, eyes narrowing. "You... you gave them your body parts, didn’t you?"

Carol smiled softly, like it was a small thing.

"Why?" Kael asked, shocked.

"For you," Carol said. "They needed it for something... something big. I can’t tell you what it is though."

Kael sighed and rubbed his eyes. His thoughts were a mess. He felt tired, like a thousand memories were crashing into him at once.

After a while, he asked, "Alright then... what do you want me to do now?"

Carol looked serious. She nodded. "First, you should know something. I didn’t mate with anyone. I created the egg using the last bit of my life. And then, something strange happened. I felt a small piece of consciousness still left in my dead body."

Her expression darkened. "Many people found this place. My remaining will was meant to test them. But all of them were greedy. I had to kill them."

She sighed again, pain in her eyes. "But... these bastards... they really found this place. That bishop—he may look dumb, but he’s clever. He knows he can’t beat me, even now. So he sends others to die, over and over, just trying to waste time. He’s waiting for my strength to run out."

Kael nodded. His face was calm now. "I see. So it’s not about power. It’s about time and numbers. The ones before probably came in small groups and you killed them easily. But this big group... they’re dragging it out. You can’t go all out, or you might destroy everything."

Carol gave a soft smile. "Exactly. That’s why... I want you to protect my daughter."

"You want me to take care of her?"

"Yeah!" Carol’s voice was full of hope.

Kael scratched his head and looked away. "That’s a bit hard, you know... I’m stuck here too. There’s a whole army outside. I can’t fight all of them."

Carol smiled again, this time with a sparkle in her eyes. "Don’t worry. I have a plan. I’ll use my last bit of power to teleport you out. But... the teleport location is fixed. I can only use it once."

Kael frowned. "Where is it?"

"Doesn’t matter," he cut her off. "I don’t know the geography these days. Wherever it lands, I’ll figure it out."

"Alright. Then I’ll send you back to your body."

"No... not now," Kael stopped her.

"Huh? Why?" Carol blinked in confusion.

Kael smirked. His smile looked crazy but determined. "Because I have something left to do...No, I mean I want to see a spectacle.."

"Spectacle?"Carol shook her head in confusion.

"Don’t run your tiny mind so hard.Just wait and watch."

Carol puffed her cheeks and shouted," My mind is not tiny nor my other parts.."

"OHOHO!"

.....

.

Lyria called out, voice shaking. "Master... Master Kael..."

She lightly shook his shoulder. No response.

"Master, please—wake up..."

Her eyes were wide with fear. Panic crept into her tone. She turned quickly to Handel, who stood frozen, watching Kael’s limp body.

"What happened to him?" she asked, voice cracking.

"I... I don’t know." Handel shook his head, his voice as unsteady as hers.

Lyria glanced around the battlefield. The sounds of the dragon still echoed—crashing ice, broken stone, distant roars. She swallowed hard.

"What should we do now?" she asked, teeth gritting as a growl escaped her throat.

Handel’s eyes swept the chaos around them. Dead bodies, shattered Titans, a trembling cavern on the verge of collapse. He clenched his jaw.

"Can you carry Lord Kael on your shoulder?" he asked after a moment. "If you can, I’ll cover you."

Lyria raised her chin and shot him a sharp look.It made Handel flush slightly with embarrassment.

"I can carry him," he explained, "but my hands would be tied. If you carry him, I can fight. I can draw attention and clear a path."

Lyria stared at him for a moment, then gave a subtle nod. "Umm."

She knelt and carefully lifted Kael, draping him across her back with surprising ease. Her breath hitched, but she stood steady, eyes narrowing with resolve.

Without a word, she stepped forward.

Handel followed closely, sword drawn, eyes flicking left and right for signs of danger.

But then, his pace slowed. He looked at Lyria’s back.

At the exposed side of her ribs, shifting as she walked. At Kael’s unconscious form resting against her.

His grip on the sword tightened.

His breath stilled as he moved ahead.

Lyria who walked putting Kael on their shoulders looked around and took a step when..

SCHLLLKK!

Steel pierced through Lyria’s back.

"Guh...!"

Her body jerked and her eyes widened in shock.Blood sprayed forward onto the ice.

Kael’s body nearly slipped from her shoulder, but she clutched him tighter, even as pain wracked her frame.

She turned her head, trembling only to hearing the sound of clicking of tongue.

"TSK...TSKKKK..."

"You got some good reflexes..No, wonder Lord kept you with her."
