The Happy Farmer Wanderer-Chapter 64 Confessing to Sister-in-Law_1
Tian Laowu’s old and useless body could never outrun Li Qing.
Caught by Li Qing in just a few strides, he was kicked into a ditch.
"You old bastard, damn it, I’ll teach you to spread rumors!" Li Qing also jumped into the ditch, fists swinging as he threw punches.
Although what Li Qing did was seemingly righteous, he was actually feeling a bit panicked inside.
He was somewhat worried that Tian Laowu might have really seen something.
But after thinking it over, it just didn’t seem possible.
When he went to Tian Yue’e’s house last night and left, he had been very careful; there hadn’t been the slightest light to be seen.
"Ow, he’s killing someone, he’s killing a person!"
Tian Laowu held his head with both hands, wailing as if he were a dying duck.
"Qingzi, what are you doing? Stop it right now."
Villagers who had just finished their work in the fields rushed over when they heard the noise.
"Qingzi, he’s your elder after all. If you have an issue, don’t resort to violence."
"Right, if there’s an issue, talk it over, no need to get physical."
Han Mei squeezed through the crowd in a hurry and grabbed Li Qing, "Qingzi, stop it first!"
Tian Laowu was beaten so badly that his face was covered in blood, red and purple bruises everywhere, even clumps of his hair had been pulled out by Li Qing.
Seeing more and more people gathering around, he suddenly became emboldened, "Everyone, you be the judge of this."
"I’m right in disciplining my own relative, aren’t I? My niece’s reputation has been questionable. What she does outside, we might let slide, but here in the village, things have to be clear and aboveboard, right?"
"Not long ago, I caught the two of them at the doorstep, acting all sneaky. This Li family lad didn’t leave for a good while. Yesterday night, Boss Hu went to give Tian Yue’e money, and, what do you know, caught them again."
"Tell me, in the dead of night, if they weren’t up to something shady, what else could it be?"
"Bringing their shady business into our village, and I can’t even intervene? If word gets out, it’s not just our Tian family’s face that’s lost; it’ll be embarrassing for everyone in the village!"
The villagers surrounding them changed expressions, looking at Tian Yue’e while they whispered and gossiped among themselves.
Tian Yue’e’s reputation, already poor, was made worse by those rumors spreading from god knows where.
Now with Tian Laowu’s vivid storytelling, nearly everyone believed it to be true.
Li Qing, unmarried and in the prime of his youth, paying for Tian Yue’e services seemed quite normal to them.
Hearing all this, Li Qing finally understood the whole story.
It turned out to be that old geezer Hu Youyu fanning the flames behind the scenes.
He let out a cold laugh and charged back, grabbing Tian Laowu by the collar, "You old thing, have the guts to tell the whole story. It wasn’t you who stumbled upon me, but me, goddamn it, stumbling upon you."
"You dishonorable old scoundrel, pressing on your niece’s doorstep late at night, insisting Tian Yue’e owed you money, threatening to stay the night if she didn’t pay up. Who owes whom, don’t you have any idea?"
"And about what you said happened between Tian Yue’e and me, if I hadn’t happened to have something to do there, you old bastard would have laid hands on your own niece. Are you even human?"
"Bullshit!" Tian Laowu cursed with a red face.
"The kind of person you are, do you think everyone is unaware? I thought after I beat you up the other day, you’d learn your lesson, but here you are today, teamed up with Hu Youyu," Li Qing cursed fiercely.
"Last night was even simpler. Hu Youyu took the opportunity of delivering the money to take advantage of Tian Yue’e. The things he said, I won’t repeat them; I’m afraid they would dirty everyone’s ears."
"As for why I was there? Are you goddamn blind? Didn’t you see my sister-in-law and I working in the greenhouse today? I was there last night to talk about that!"
"You old dog, stop biting others just because you are worthless!"
The villagers watching the commotion, upon hearing Li Qing’s words,
soon sussed out the gist of it.
Someone mocked coldly, "Look at these shameless old geezers, sour grapes and now trying to sling mud on Qingzi!"
Immediately someone chimed in.
"One’s a creepy old bachelor who breaks into widows’ homes in the dead of night, and the other thinks he can do whatever he wants just because he has some money, what a farce they’ve conjured up!"
"All of you are damned, why didn’t you beat this old thing to death!"
"And you still want us to judge in your favor, pah!"
Hearing the increasingly harsh curses, Tian Laowu’s face turned beet red.
"Don’t listen to the nonsense of this hairless young brat!" he shouted.
But as soon as he opened his mouth, he was met with several spits in the face.
"Why don’t you roll aside, Qingzi might not know you, but do you think we don’t know what kind of person you are?"
"Shameless old fool, disgracing your ancestors."
"Qingzi, whatever you want to do, just do it, we didn’t see anything."
"If you’ve really got the guts, kill him and we’ll help you dig the hole."
Li Qing, of course, did not have the guts to genuinely kill someone.
He wouldn’t seriously hurt someone on the spur of the moment just because of what these people said.
Seeing things going south, Tian Laowu suddenly wrenched Li Qing’s hands away, leaped out of the ditch, and took off like the wind.
This old coward was truly afraid that Li Qing, provoked by the crowd, would end his life right there in the ditch.
As the crowd watching the excitement saw Tian Laowu flee, muttering curses, they quickly dispersed as well.
Li Qing slowly sat down by the ditch, a wave of relief washing over him.
Neither man nor woman were married; even if their affair really got out, it wouldn’t matter too much.
But it couldn’t be as Tian Laowu had described.
If the villagers really believed Tian Laowu’s accusations, convinced that Tian Yue’e was selling herself in the village, her reputation would be utterly ruined.
She would have no place in the village at all.
"Are you okay?" Tian Yue’e came over and asked softly.
"Are you okay?" Li Qing asked intently, looking at her somewhat enchanting face which was just inches away.
Tian Yue’e smiled wryly, "What could be wrong with me? Let them talk if they want to, after all, I carry myself with dignity and act honorably."
"Don’t look at me like that, rest assured, I’m really fine. Oh, I was planning to invite you all to dinner at my place, but with things turning out this way, let’s leave it till tomorrow," she said.
Han Mei looped her arm through Tian Yue’e’s, "Your place is spacious, make some room for me tonight, will you?"
"I’m really fine, I’m not a young girl anymore, what are you still worried about!" Tian Yue’e said, caught between laughter and tears, "It’s getting late, you all should head back early."
Seeing Tian Yue’e wouldn’t agree, Han Mei had no choice but to let it go.
After giving a few words of parting advice, she and Li Qing left together.
"Sis, she’ll be okay, won’t she?" Along the way, Li Qing still asked with concern.
"A tough woman, like a stubborn duck, always quacking away. Whether there’s trouble or not, let her calm down a bit," Han Mei sighed softly.
Li Qing thought for a moment and said, "Sis, last night, I really did sleep with Tian Yue’e."
