Chapter 811: Chapter 811: The Orange Cat and the Wild Mouse

Qin Wenjun was instantly a bit panicked by Li Qing’s seemingly mocking expression, and after a moment, she forced a laugh and said, "Come on, don’t scare me on purpose. How could there be demons in this world? Those are just the crooked ways of the past, not real at all."

"Is that so?" Li Qing said with a light smile, "You’re almost a cultivator now. Is it really that strange for there to be demons and ghosts in the world?"

Qin Wenjun’s face suddenly lost its smile, her expression as if frozen, "People and those things are different, Qingzi, are you saying... there really are such things in the world? Are you trying to scare me?"

"Why would I scare you? They exist," Li Qing shook his head and once again looked toward the dense forest that seemed bottomless, "Besides, you’ve seen one before, you just never took it seriously."

"Where?!" Qin Wenjun suddenly became like a startled bunny, glancing around nervously. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

"That old apricot tree where you tried to hang yourself before, I’ve never been quite sure what was going on with that old fellow, but it doesn’t seem like any good, you can think of it as a demon or a spirit monster," Li Qing said.

"That thing... is actually..." Qin Wenjun was somewhat frightened. She nervously moved closer to Li Qing and grabbed his sleeve, "Qingzi, do you mean to say there’s one here too? A rat that has become a spirit, is it a rat demon, or a rat spirit?"

"Hard to say, there might be, or there might not be here; I’m just mentioning it casually," Li Qing chuckled, "Places like this sometimes aren’t that simple, even if they are man-made, there may still be some inexplicable secrets behind them."

"If these things aren’t man-made, but built up for other reasons, that would be even more troublesome, right?"

"Stop saying that, how can it be so terrifying?" Qin Wenjun said nervously, "If you keep talking like this, forget about doing anything else, I won’t even dare to stay here."

Suddenly a cat’s meow echoed from the woods.

"Ah—" Qin Wenjun abruptly grabbed Li Qing’s arm and shrieked loudly.

Li Qing couldn’t help but laugh, his courage never seemed that small, today it suddenly shrank to the size of a bean. Had what he said been that terrifying?

"It’s a wild cat, not some wild rat, the nemesis of rats," Li Qing joked.

A rustling sound came from the woods, and then the chubby orange cat stepped out from the low bushes with graceful and composed steps, a large rat still clutched in its mouth.

The rat was slightly larger than a mole rat, looking like a genetically mutated rat, and even more astonishing was that it was wearing a crown made of wild fruits on its head.

"It turns out it’s not a wild cat, but a house cat," Li Qing laughed, "But this rat looks somewhat unusual."

"It’s Da Huang, you almost scared me to death," Qin Wenjun said, patting her trembling chest.

"Da Huang?" Li Qing asked somewhat puzzled, "Who came up with that name?"

"Zi Ling, she said this cat is called Da Huang, and told us to just call it Da Huang from now on," Qin Wenjun said, "But Da Huang doesn’t seem to like the name much; every time we call it, it looks so reluctant and even rolls its eyes."

Li Qing shook his head and laughed, "This must be another one of Zi Ling’s pranks. There’s no way this cat was originally named Da Huang. After all, it’s King Qi’s pet. How could it have such an awkward name? I’ll ask Jing Yan later, she should know what this guy is really called."

"Giving it such a rough name, it definitely wouldn’t like it. And let me tell you, don’t mess with this little guy when you’re bored, its strength is much greater than yours. Speaking of which, this little one is a demon, why am I even bothering to find another example."

Qin Wenjun was stunned, with an expression like her system had crashed.

"Qingzi, are you saying that Da Huang... has also cultivated to a certain realm?"

"I didn’t want to make you guys nervous, so I didn’t explain everything in detail," Li Qing said as he rubbed his temples. "This little guy is about the same age as Jing Yan, and it’s not just about having cultivated to a certain realm. This guy could probably pin both of us to the ground with one paw. Last time Jing Yan casually mentioned it, but I guess you didn’t pay attention."

Qin Wenjun looked incredulously at the orange cat squatting in front of Li Qing, "This little guy is actually that powerful... Now that you mention it, I won’t dare to pet it anymore."

"It’s fine, you see it’s very docile now, nothing will happen, no need to be nervous," Li Qing chuckled as he looked at the mouse hanging from the orange cat’s mouth. "But how come I feel like there’s something off about this mouse!"

The orange cat meowed reluctantly, as if saying, are you two done talking? Finally remembered me?

It disdainfully threw the mouse on the ground, pressed it down with its paw, and spat several times, then licked its tongue with another paw, before turning to Li Qing as if seeking approval.

Li Qing crouched down in front of the orange cat, "You wouldn’t be suggesting that this mouse is from that Wild Mouse Temple, would you?"

The orange cat elegantly nodded and gave Li Qing a haughty little expression.

Li Qing clicked his tongue and sighed lightly, "Well, I had a feeling about this place, it seemed a bit gloomy and something felt off. I didn’t expect this place to actually have an owner. How far has this mouse cultivated? Can it talk?"

Under the orange cat’s paw, the mouse struggled to lift its head, its eyes cunning, and it squeaked something. Although Li Qing couldn’t understand it, the expression made him feel like the little creature was trying to fool him into thinking he was an idiot.

"Damn, how do we communicate if we can’t understand each other?" Li Qing was somewhat speechless.

Qin Wenjun wanted to make use of this place, and he was still intent on clearing up as much as possible. That was for the best.

But even if this mouse had become a spirit, there was still a generation gap between it and him.

"Forget it, let’s send it off. Just watching its shifty eyes makes people restless and uncomfortable, it’s clearly no good," Li Qing said.

The orange cat immediately nodded repeatedly, meowing softly twice, as if to say, great minds think alike, that’s what I was thinking too.

But the mouse seemed to understand Li Qing’s words and suddenly began struggling violently, squeaking chaotically.

"Qingzi, is there any way to find out what it’s saying?" Qin Wenjun suddenly asked.
