The Happy Farmer Wanderer-Chapter 813: The Skill of the Field Mouse
On that somewhat overgrown hillside, the battle between a cat and a mouse was decidedly uneventful.
The fat grey mouse, self-proclaimed as the Wild Mouse Immortal, was repeatedly rubbed fiercely against the hillside by the orange cat.
Cats naturally overpower mice, but this Immortal seemed to have always pretended otherwise, never realizing that it was only a hundred years into its cultivation, whereas Da Huang was already a thousand years in. If they were in a story, they would be on the same level as Bai Suzhen.
Li Qing lay down calmly on the hillside and said to Qin Wenjun, who was watching with utmost seriousness, "While they’re fighting, why don’t we have a battle too? This hillside is a bit gloomy, but there are warm spots in the sunlight, and it’s very secluded, perfect for doing something big."
Qin Wenjun’s playful scolding came with a smile, "Those two have become spirits, and you want them to watch you without feeling ashamed?"
"What’s there to be ashamed of? After all, it’s a difference of species; no matter how much they’ve transformed, they’re still just a cat and a mouse. If we have to avoid them, does that mean we’ll have to hide from cockroaches and ants in the future? That would be too exhausting," Li Qing laughed.
Qin Wenjun chuckled lightly and rolled her eyes, "You and your rationales. As long as those two are here, I’m not comfortable taking off my pants. But if it’s cockroaches or ants, I don’t mind at all."
Li Qing, with a grass root dangling from his mouth, said with a trace of regret, "Ah, what a pity."
"Qingzi, this place, do you think it has potential to be utilized?" Qin Wenjun suddenly asked.
"Yeah, people nowadays have a certain curiosity for the unusual. But this kind of place, it involves a lot, you can do it, no problem, but you need to be cautious. There might actually be people nearby who believe in this wild Immortal, and if you developed it, you could face opposition from these people."
"They’re not a big deal; we’ve always suppressed such random worship, and they can’t say much about it," Qin Wenjun said, "I’m just worried that if there’s a spirit-transformed mouse living here and I turn it into a haunted house-type amusement park, could it cause any problems? Like attracting other dirty things, you know."
Li Qing twisted his neck and said, "Leave that to me."
"Good," Qin Wenjun clapped her hands, eager to try, "If we can handle this, there shouldn’t be any problems. But, can we not kill the mouse? Such a big mouse, I think it could be a mascot for this place."
"You’d better stop daydreaming, let it be a mascot and you’re not afraid it’ll gather followers among the tourists every day? These creatures don’t just win followers by talking, they have other means."
"Qingzi, just let me try, alright? I think this big mouse is quite cute," Qin Wenjun suddenly grabbed Li Qing’s arm and acted spoilt, "We could make a cage or something to keep it in, just make it an exhibit, as long as it attracts people, that’s good enough."
"And we could also collect money for spiritual offerings, turning this Wild Mouse Shrine into a different kind of temple."
"Your idea’s getting a bit far-fetched all of a sudden..." Li Qing frowned and muttered, "Why would you change this into a temple for no reason?"
"Sell tickets, collect money for offerings. Don’t underestimate this; it’s worth a lot," Qin Wenjun said, "If a few cases of serendipitous efficacy happened, this place would be famous overnight. Then, you just wait and make money, that’s it."
Li Qing’s gaze slightly hardened, studying Qin Wenjun as she lightly furrowed her brows. He purposely went along with her and said, "That actually sounds like a pretty good idea. If we could make this Wild Mouse Temple known far and wide, it might even become a symbol of our village!"
Qin Wenjun clapped her hands excitedly, "Yeah, that’s exactly what I was thinking—this is totally something we could do!"
"I’ll do your grandpa!" Li Qing, observing Qin Wenjun’s awkward clapping, suddenly erupted in fury and slapped her on the back, his spiritual power enveloping her like a raging storm in an instant.
With a sizzling sound, as if something was burning, a dim grey mouse shadow floated out from Qin Wenjun’s body, "Little guy, how did you find me?"
This shadow had some distinctions from the ordinary grey mouse, but both wore a headband woven from grass seeds.
"You cur! Playing these tricks on me, huh?" Li Qing bellowed angrily, "Die!"
"Little guy, you’re just a Qi Cultivator, don’t overexert yourself. Better to leave quickly. This place isn’t something you can touch so easily. Today’s incident is just a small punishment for you. If you remain stubborn, this great immortal won’t let you off!" the blurry shadow said to Li Qing, even forming a hand seal.
"A few mischievous mice really got to you, huh? Fine, let’s see how much weight you can pull!" Li Qing said coldly, as the Soul-breaking Arrow suddenly flew out from behind him, aiming straight for the hazy shadow in mid-air.
With a piercing sound, the Soul-breaking Arrow whistled past, and that hazy shadow shattered like a broken mirror, scattering all over the ground.
"How do you feel?" Li Qing turned around to help Qin Wenjun up, asking with concern.
Qin Wenjun, holding her forehead, slowly came to her senses, "What happened to me... Did I miss something?"
"I don’t know when that damn thing showed up, but you were just possessed by a mouse that attempted to sway me with its spirit," Li Qing murmured resentfully, infuriated at having been made a fool of by a few mice.
"Ah? I was worried about this kind of thing, and now I was the first to be hit?" Qin Wenjun suddenly felt nervous, patting herself down, "I’m okay now, right?"
"When was the first time for us two?" Li Qing looked directly into Qin Wenjun’s eyes, asking in a deep voice.
"The first time... under that apricot tree, just like you said. You shameless thing, you just shoved your hand in," Qin Wenjun said with a blush, whispering, "Later, I realized that being with you seemed to fulfill some of my preferences, and then I... I guess I happily accepted it. Although I may have overthought it at the time, I’m happy now."
Li Qing nodded, "Stand right here. If you feel any discomfort, let me know immediately. I’m going to deal with these filthy mice!"
Qin Wenjun obediently nodded, "Qingzi, make sure to clean them out completely, otherwise, I might have to abandon this place. Honestly, it’s given me quite the scare now."
Li Qing nodded and yelled towards the orange cat nearby, still venting its anger on the grey mouse, "Da Huang, stop playing around, send it off!"
