The Happy Farmer Wanderer-Chapter 835: A Confrontation with the Director
"What’s going on?" Li Qing asked, somewhat surprised.
He thought it unlikely that the sudden fame of their village had already reached Dian Chunqiu’s ears.
Perhaps he was talking about something else.
However, Dian Chunqiu said, "What’s the deal with those two cultivators? Where did they pop up from? And how come they ended up being livestreamed?"
Facing Dian Chunqiu’s barrage of questions, Li Qing was stunned for quite a while, "Chief, I don’t know what you’re asking me here, I’m totally clueless."
"Where are they? Aren’t they just in your village?" Dian Chunqiu demanded angrily.
"Oh, that’s true, I have seen them," Li Qing said. "But they said they were just wandering around the village for fun. However, two of them seemed to have some disagreements and ended up fighting in public, and that’s what got filmed. That’s pretty much what happened."
"You need to think of a way to calm this situation down," Dian Chunqiu said sternly. "Such matters can’t be blown out of proportion."
Li Qing looked utterly astonished, "Chief, are you misunderstanding something about me?"
"What misunderstanding?" Dian Chunqiu countered.
"Chief, seriously, do you think I have the ability to calm this down? I don’t even know what methods to use," Li Qing lamented. This uncle was seriously confused if he thought he could find a solution to this mess.
"I’ll have someone take care of the videos online, but as for those cultivators and the guys who handled the livestreaming, I’ve had them checked out, and they’re locals from Tongcheng. You handle them, have them issue a clarification. If they don’t cooperate, turn them over to public security," Dian Chunqiu said in a grave tone. "Cultivators should not disturb the mortal world. This is a rule established in the Cultivation World, and it’s also the primary mission of the Ninth Bureau." 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"This kind of situation absolutely cannot be spread recklessly. The videos can still be managed, but the impact caused by those streaming the event is complicated, their commentary has already made those videos spread widely."
Li Qing, massaging his temples, muttered, "Chief, you really know how to pile on the work, I think I should be getting paid by now."
"You do have a salary, and when has the Ninth Bureau ever made its employees work for free? Stop your grumbling, don’t you know whether you have a salary or not?" Dian Chunqiu immediately raised his voice, visibly displeased.
"Chief, don’t kid me, I’ve never seen such a thing," Li Qing said.
"Bullshit!" Dian Chunqiu exploded with rage. "Check your bank account, isn’t there a deposit of fifty thousand every month? You little rascal, don’t you even know how much money you have in your own account?"
"Which card?" Li Qing asked.
"How would I know which one? I wasn’t the one who handled this directly, haven’t I told you about this before? Now that I think about it, I didn’t actually mention it, but it’s clearly written in the handbook. You don’t need to manage these things yourself, we’ve made everything clear for you, just take the money when the time comes," Dian Chunqiu nearly roared.
Li Qing suddenly didn’t know what to say, "Chief, I can see now, your way of handling things really isn’t reliable. You’re talking about something this important, and you couldn’t even give me a heads up? Sure, it’s great that you handled it all, but I had no idea, I thought I was working for free here. And as for the handbook, who seriously reads that thing?"
The moment the handbook had been given to him, Li Qing had tossed it somewhere, never even flipped through it.
Who would have thought they just simply mentioned such crucial information in the handbook? Directly guiding a newbie without explaining clearly, obviously unreliable, completely lacking in patience.
The Ninth Bureau held immense power, simplifying matters, Li Qing could understand and found it quite convenient.
But you don’t explain anything at all. It’s just him who would bear it, if it were someone else, they would have exploded long ago.
Forget it, someone else probably wouldn’t dare to confront the director directly.
They’d likely just curse quietly behind his back and then seek information from their peers.
"Quit your mumbling, you have all your stuff, including your ID and everything, get it sorted out once you’re back. Even though we are a makeshift crew in the Ninth Bureau, we’re extremely structured. You won’t be missing a single item you should have, and not a penny less in salary than you’re owed," Dian Chunqiu scolded irritatedly.
"Get this done quickly. Don’t think you can get too arrogant because you hold a high rank at the Nine Truth Palace and have a powerful cultivator like the Master of the Underground Palace as a confidante. Now that you’re with the Ninth Bureau, you have to do your job, got it?"
"Got it, got it," Li Qing replied promptly, "I’ll get on it right away. How does that sound, Elder?"
"Quit your smart talk," Dian Chunqiu laughed and grumbled, then with a tone of uncertainty, he continued, "That said... about that matter, look into it again when you get back. The handbook, it should have everything listed, sometimes my memory isn’t so great. Check if anything’s missing, especially some of the important documents and clothes, um... and it seems there was something else, never mind, just check it yourself when you get back."
"Director, I don’t even need to go back to check, I can already be sure the clothes are missing," Li Qing said softly.
Indeed, these were not the kinds of tasks a director should handle.
Officially, he was now the head of this city, with considerable authority, but looking around, it seemed like he was just a figurehead.
There had been talk of assigning a few people to assist him, which now seemed to have vanished into thin air.
Everything about this situation screamed of simple, unreliable designs.
The Ninth Bureau should be reliable in these procedures; after all, for such a large unit, although there might be a shortage of cultivators, the other support staff must be top-notch, given the authority the Ninth Bureau held here.
The real issue was Dian Chunqiu, the director himself.
"Not available?" Dian Chunqiu hesitated, "Then I might have missed giving them to you. Check again when you get back and send them to me altogether. I’ll have someone deliver them, though those things are not very useful actually since you’re always incognito, but sometimes you might need them."
"Director, I think... perhaps you should leave direct hiring to others in the future, lighten your load a bit," Li Qing said, his lips twitching slightly, quite speechlessly, "This sort of work should definitely be handled by specialized staff, let’s just leave it to them."
"You little rascal, are you complaining about me?" Dian Chunqiu, who had just softened his tone, flared up once more.
Li Qing really wanted to give him a definite answer, given the situation at hand.
He didn’t understand these matters; it truly depended on Dian Chunqiu.
Can’t utter a single clear sentence, if not blaming him then whom?!
